Okay tell me what wingman we have on the list that is better than Roarke?

Sure if we had 2 good wingman delist him, but we don’t. We don’t have 1. And it’s very unlikely we can draft 1 that will play round 1.

Roarke isn’t a superstar by any stretch, but he plays his roles. His a good defensive runner and he also sticks tackles. He does a lot of the team orientated stuff others don’t do. Subsequently if his body can hold up id keep him.

Also, we haven’t accepted mediocrity by keeping a player like Roarke Smith on the rookie list. We have accepted mediocrity by playing too many guys that don’t play their role and don’t work hard enough defensively. We have dropped our standards by playing a number of lazy footballers that aren’t capable of doing the hard stuff hence why we get chopped up in transition week in week out.

I’d rather play the guy that touches it 10 times and plays a team orientated brand than the guy that touches it 30 times.

Also there is a level of ignorance about list management, a number of people here want to cut 10-12 blokes. It’s very hard to cut that deep when we will probably only have 3 picks in the top 50 in a weak draft once we match a pick for Croft. We’d have to take about 5-7 speculative project players on the list if we were to do that which would just be reckless and a good way to lower standards further ie competition for spots.

We should limit our cuts to about 8. We’ve already lost 5.
The issue is his availability. Availability is thr best ability. Even if it were Judd. If he can't get on the field he can't help us and unfortunately his body has shown he can't.

If we made finals and had a fit list I know I’m taking Roarke ahead of any of Williams, Poulter or Baker.

If we had more depth on the wings I’d be okay delisting him. But we don’t.
I’m taking Williams every day of the week over Roarke for a game tomorrow, much much better player.

Roarke, Poulter, Baker is a toss up though, I’d favour the latter two because of their age and upside though so personally it’d take a minimum of 2 injuries before Roarke gets a shot. Then there’s the fact that he literally cannot stay on the park and is now coming back from a brutal foot injury.

That’s not taking into account if anyone like Bedendo or hopefully another pick up goes past him next year. If we cut really deep we may as well keep him on the list but it’s neither here nor there for mine

Williams is a better footballer no doubt, his more versatile. But his not a better wingman than Roarke.

He doesn’t have the wheels to play on a wing. Our wingman are a big reason we get cut up in transition. They cannot keep up.

I think I said keeping him would be contingent on the club and him being confident in his body.

If his body is no good we should cut ties. But through 2021-2022 he’d of been available more often than not at vfl or afl level. Foot injuries can be nasty though.

Whats the consensus on what Chol’s worth if he gets traded?

Buku kicked 10 more goals, more marks, more hitouts in the VFL this year (admittedly from a few extra games) and is 3 years younger

What Buku did in the VFL this year, Chol did in the AFL last year. He will have more value than Buku. Probaby a 3rd rounder vs a 4th rounder though

Still can't understand giving Hunter away. Has played consistently well for Melbourne this year and we gave him away for nothing. Yes there were some off field stuff but we have really missed his work.

His kicking I50 is still hard to watch.
Hunter would be an absolute disaster in any of the finalist sides except Melbourne IMO, he flys under the radar there because the only strings to their bow is a great defence & great midfield, so he can coast 50 to 50 with his running power, get back to help clog up the defence and link up with better midfielders on offence. He fits into their slow build up, defensive play a treat.

He wouldn’t hold a spot at say Pies, Lions, GWS, Sydney or Port IMO

He torched bridges at the club over the course of years. Nothing to do with his ability, and as a player I’m sure we’d love to have kept him.

Raak was never any good can’t believe there’s people melting that he didnt get another season 😂

Hearing that Sweet is going to stay which I didn’t see happening.. Crozier wants out too I’m lead to believe whether or not anyone wants him is another thing
Interesting if they’ve convinced Sweet to stay. You’d think a plan has been sold to him. I like him, he’s limited but there’s something about him.

If we did want to trade in a midfielder, Paddy Dow seems like one of the better list fits.

Why would we trade a contracted player for less than we think he's worth?

Because 12 months on, when he inevitably requests a trade, our leverage is gone and we start begging for pick 7 as best case scenario.

We held Dunkley, he played his career best year, wins our BnF, we only limp into finals and we still have to bend over to Brisbane come trade time.

Infact that mega trade is almost identical to what Essendon were offering for Dunkley at the time. Yet we walk away a year later with a worse deal, picks 21 and 18-20 instead.

Why is it inevitable?

When fit he has more upside. Certainly more clever as a player than those two. His body thus far has held him back
He's not a bull like West. Certainly a better fit for us than Garcia, even for depth
We’ll have to agree and disagree on that. I don’t see much in Bytel at all.

I'd agree... however, we have (inexplicably) signed Baker to a 2 year deal as well as given a deal to Poulter. Williams is a walk up start to the 22 and got 4 years.
Roarke would be touch and go to get another deal.

Looking forward to our next crack at a premiership with a midfield group of Sweet, Garcia, West, Dow and Bytel.

The league should just can the 2026, 27, 28 seasons and hand us the cups now.

Well, it is slightly different to be linked to every shit midfielder instead of KPP these days….

It is pretty interesting, particularly as there are always a few clubs looking for a ruck and you'd have thought he'd get some interest. I'd love to see him play first ruck and English 2nd ruck/floating KPP, just to see what it looks like. Fingers crossed we get a chance to see that for a few games next year, even if just to rule it out for the future.

The negative way of looking at it (if you're an English fan) is that the club suspect he's on his way out so need to expose Sweet to AFL level more and have convinced him to stay. Or maybe Sweet just didn't get the interest he thought he might and so decided to stay on.

Yeah I don’t see it with Baker.

Williams is an okay footballer, but I don’t think he is a good enough runner to play full time wing at least in our current set up. I am worried he will get exposed on a wing in final on a wider mcg.

Poulter has something to work with. If his body fills out and he learns to use it he could be a weapon. His not there yet though and might never get there.

Gallagher looks like he is going to be a good player. I hope his ready round 1 as there is a spot calling his name. Just can’t tell what his two way running is like watching a vfl livestream - two way running isn’t really embedded at tac level so it’s probably not there yet.
