We have to re-sign him right, be so surprised if we don’t

We will offer him another deal based off his VFL form.

I'm not sure how the rules work with OOC mid season picks, but West Coast or Freo could potentially offer him a better deal to come home and we could loose him that way?

Didn't we lose Lachie Young to north in a similar manner? He was on our rookie list, we offered him a 1 year rookie deal to stay but North offered two years on the main list.

I assume the WA teams could do the same thing and then we'd have to decide to up our offer to keep him. I assume we would as he's shown good traits at VFL level.

I would add him to the main list and offer 2 year contract

In theory we are opening up at least 4 spots on the main list at a minimum between trades/delisting's Buku/Scott/JUH(hopefully)/Coffield/JJ/A.Jones

Upgrade JOD/Sellwood take 2-3 to the draft

Yes he was part of the Stefan Martin trade

If Butters isn’t happening this year, and we just salary dumped Macrae and Caleb…

We should be very aggressively acting to improve our areas of need. Which tbh have mostly been the same for a number of years now.

Balance replenishing via the draft with more likely short term improvement by acquiring known commodities in areas of need. We need experience and better 1 on 1 defending in the backline. If we press so high because we don’t trust our backline - get better defenders in so we can trust them more against good sides.

i think when you’re a) trying to turn the list into a true contender but b) also losing Dunkley, Smith and JUH over the last few years…we might not like to admit it but that’s a blow. The former 2 are very good players. Jamarra, luckily we have Darcy, Naughts and Croft, but he essentially wiped out a whole draft hand, which could be paying off about now. He was a big investment.

Not wanting to cry over spilt milk with the above but more so thinking that losing good, young players should be creating a bit more urgency with our approach. While recognising that the draft is how we get our top talents and need to maintain a suitable amount of selections each year.

I just look at how quickly 2021 came together once we’d acquired Doc, Keath, Bruce and Stef Martin to fix pressing issues. Then Treloar was kind of a cherry on top. That’s the Sam Power that sort of burst onto the scene. Aggressive, savvy moves to round out an already talented list.

Kennedy was a good start to finally fill the hole Dunkley left. Hopefully we get Cody back in full flight to take McNeils spot. We probably get more from at least one of Dolan or Hynes too. But our priority now should be adding a couple of defenders that can provably hold their own.
There is an assumption here that this is not what we have been doing.

From our Mid Season draft this year where we picked up a more mature and a young Medium back. One of whom there is a push already to get Sellwood into the AFL team.

The only position we do not have players developing and likely ready to go for next season is a strong KPD where were are relying on the development of JOD and BUSS.

Dunkly and Smith have been replaced by Kennedy, Freijah, Garcia, Sanders. Hynes is developing well already as the next player coming along

It is not luck that we have Naughts, Darcy and Croft, they were all strategically recruited.

95% of the "Known" commodities suggested here are no better than what we already have. I have no issue with being aggressive but make sure those we are being aggressive with will actually make us better and allows us to keep a strong core together.

Jack will not be coming to the Dogs, after a fitness test did not come back very positive

I think he underwent a medical not a fitness test.

A medical is a doctor's report that outlines underlying medical issues, previous injuries etc. The medical and fitness team look at the report to determine how confident they are they the issues can be managed or not and the level of risk.

A fitness test looks at current level of fitness only.

Brett Deledio underwent a medical with us back in the day, we didn't think it was worth the risk, GWS did.

Yes, I should have said medical, but either way, the club has decided not to touch him on the back of it.

Is that Atkins or Rozee?
Damn, you're right. It certainly makes more sense that this hubbub was just about farewelling Boak, with two pillars of Port on either side of him.

Now I'm just feeling bad for Atkins.

Looks Like Michael Sellwood is getting an extension

Obviously Rozee looking down in that poster while Butters and Boak look straight ahead is an homage to the Abbey Road cover. Boak can see his future in retirement, Butters can see his future at WO, while even with Hinkley gone, poor Connor is still stuck at Port. 😉

Just can’t see Port offloading butters a year early when he is reportedly happy to stay and consider his future next year. They’ll back themselves in to keep him.
Agree that's the state of play now but things can move very quickly. This would not be an unlikely series of events:
  • Rather than speaking to Butters about the type of money that he would earn with us in a broad sense, we make a more concrete offer because we know precisely how much we can offer him now we've moved on from Silvagni, confirmed the Dale deal, etc.
  • Butters dislikes the rest of the season and the off-season at Port/likes it at the Dogs (maybe he's more motivated to play with us if we win finals or whatever).
  • He then goes to Port and tells them he's far more likely to leave as a free agent than he was a month ago
  • Port realise they can get more for him than what they would get as free agency compensation and have a fresh break around the club with a new coach, and not have the idea of a player who is all but leaving at the end of the year around.
