The problem is that he's contracted. Do you really think after the cash being splashed around, the Saints are going to go 'hey give us your first rounder and change and that's a fair deal'? The guy is/was going to be their captain in 2026.

I just get the feeling we need to be more aggressive. Look at Mitchell, his side is playing a semi final on Friday and he's meeting with an opposition captain. Meanwhile, the last rites for our season were weeks ago now, so you kinda hope we're fairly active already...I'm sure we are, just hope we're like a swan and furiously paddling under the water.

He's still under contract until end of 2027 with the Saints, so doesn't need to re-sign. But they may extend him on more $ now because of our pursuit.

Still like the idea of getting both butts & Wilkie. Lobb can be 5th man on bench as 2 nd ruck. Croft and Buss continue to develop, Buss gets to be developed by Wilkie

Merrett is a dogs fan and I've never known a dogs fan that stopped being one because they got involved/drafted by another club.

If Wilkie is going to be held to his contract by the Saints, maybe a combo of Butts, and Young from Richmond might be a great alternative.
