Re: 2010: Make or Break for which players?

Atkinson?

Small defender, lot of 'upside'. If T.Slattery comes on this year then he may start to feel some heat.

If Fletcher does retire (God Forbid ) he counts as one of delistings, or is it if we elevate a rookie??

I've gone blank..

I think that is saying something Skeeta Olly

Re: 2010: Make or Break for which players?

Jetta
Slattery
Lovett-Murray

WILL ALL BE GONE AT SEASONS END.

If Mcveigh has another average year put him on the trade table to scare him.

Jetta needs to show something this year, who will replace Slattery [assuming Henry], and NLM is signed until the end of 2011.

Would have thought demoting McVeigh to the VFL would be more effective.

Re: 2010: Make or Break for which players?

Slattery and Dyson will not be delisted at the end of the year, particularly given that Dyson seems to be being groomed for the designated kickers role.

Obviously Atkinson, Laycock, John Williams are right on the chopping block.

Re: 2010: Make or Break for which players?

Try not to let your biases influence your decision making. Slattery and Dyson have been mentioned. WTF?

I dislike H Slattery enough to want him gone but there is no chance in hell he is going to be de-listed by seasons end. Dyson came off a career best year and seemed to establish himself in our best 22 by the end of 2009.

It is tough to even mention the first two players in my list but a combination of injuries and the perception of their attitudes are a huge problem:

1. Neagle
2. Laycock
3. Atkinson (doesn't offer anything already offered by other more accomplished players).

Gumbleton is safe because he is young and seems to show enough during each pre-season to remind us why we should keep the faith.

I also have no idea about the rookies but you would think that other than Bock they are all a year to year proposition.

Re: 2010: Make or Break for which players?

NLM
Laycock
Dyson
Slattery

If all four improve this year and start being really consistent then you would keep them.

If either one has a shocker or just plain doesn't go up a rung, then trade city here we come..

Re: 2010: Make or Break for which players?

if they are uncontracted, there is no trading if the gold coast wants them (and they want to go there) the AFL decides what compensation is given and they have a formula for deciding what it will be therefore if its a player that isnt making our best 22 i cant see us getting any better compensation than a 3rd-4th round pick, and value from other clubs will be very low as they wont have any decent picks anyway!

NLM im 100% signed a 2years deal, all the talk at the end of hte season was about NLM, welsh and McPHee, NLM signed first, Mcphee decided to go and then welsh signed i think was the order..

i would say as other have, your better off sticking with what you've got and giving blokes another year than getting rid of them at the end of this year! i think 9th gets pick 18 in the draft.

Re: 2010: Make or Break for which players?

I'm a little suprised how short the lists are in this thread given where the list is at. Very few established players that should be guaranteed careers beyond this year.

Jetta
Davey
Reimers
Gumbleton
Neagle
Laycock
Atkinson
H Slattery
Lonergan
Houli

All bar Atkinson are players that have had 4 years in the system at the end of this year and if they are not regulars in the side through either poor form or serious long term injury then some very serious questions should be asked as to their likelihood of contributing to our next premiership

Further to that, McVeigh, Welsh and NLM all have big years ahead of them. Particularly McVeigh needs to be at his best if we are going to have a real crack this year.

Jetta: gone
Davey: 50/50
Reimers: injured last year one more season
Gumbleton: same with Reimers
Neagle:eek:ne more year
Laycock: Gone
Atkinson: maybe
H Slattery: Gone unless they find another position he can play
Lonergan: love his hardness at the ball
Houli: another 50/50 shows signs then has shit ones.

Re: 2010: Make or Break for which players?

People, Jetta's safe - would have been put up for trade last year otherwise. I'm classing him as a project player now.

And anyone who suggests Dyson (most improved player of '09) is going anywhere, is barking mad.

Put McVeigh on the trading table to give him a scare?

In trouble:
Houli [Has had long enough to show something, but only glimpses. Showed on Friday he's still a squib.]
Laycock [All down to the body. There's a place for him, but it wont be there for ever.]
Hardingham [He's just a roll of the dice. Show something immediately or it's drapes.]

Re: 2010: Make or Break for which players?

Laycock
Jetta
Atkinson

Neagle - although this will depend on Hurley and Still.. If one of them steps up at full-forward and he is stuck at Bendigo, the future does not look all the bright for him....

Put McVeigh on the trading table to give him a scare? WADR, go f*ck yourself.

if we go on the theory of waiting till a player is 24 before showing anything houli still has atleast another 2yearsw

Laycock is on his last chance and so is atkinson,
i personally thought we'd hung onto dyson too long! and what do ya know he proved some worth in 09,

So if Jetta has another year where he shows nothing he's still safe??? I don't understand how he could be safe after 4 years of nothing.

Bit harsh on Hardinham. Would think he'd get 2 years providing he's not just a complete flop who doesn't touch it in the resi's.

Re: 2010: Make or Break for which players?

Atkinson, Hardingham and Laycock are all in the gun.

Atkinson needs to cement a place in the 22, if not bye bye.

Hardingham needs to show enough to warrant another year and push out another player out.

Laycock has had plenty of time and if he can't stay fit and get on the park then he might be surplus to requirements as T Bell improves every time he steps out there.

The rest should be persisted with for another year or two.
