Lamb is a pretty talented footballer - has a heap of ability although I agree with Phil that he does lack game sense.

Selecting him with our 2nd rounder was a risk but if I recall the recruiters at the time said they couldn't overlook his talent. Given we often bemoan the clubs risk averse drafting it was a risk worth taking even if it appears it may not have paid off.

Had we chosen Blakely he'd be getting pilloried on here as another of our poorly skilled midfielders - we also had Waterman from that draft and obviously didn't anticipate him getting glandular fever.

Personally i hope that Lamb stays for another year because there's a genuinely exciting footballer under those blonde dreadies if he can get his head (and heart) right

Would be stupid to trade Lamb this early in his development, it's rare for players with his attributes and stature to develop quickly within 2 years some players take longer than others. If Lamb was at Hawthorn they would give him 3/4 years to prove himself, for example Sicily is 21 and its first year in the AFL, Lamb is only 19 still.

O'Meara's officially asked for a trade to an "interstate club". Gold Coast want two first rounders but his knees will be an issue.

Pick 12 and MacKenzie? Probably wouldn't be enough to get it done I suppose.

I'm not sure Lobb has the same value as Boyd at the time of his trade. At the end of 2014 Boyd was 19 coming off his first season after being the consensus first overall pick. Lobb is currently 4 years older than that coming off his 3rd season after being taken pick 29, a year after Lycett in the same spot.

The Bulldogs gambled pick 6 and a veteran mid on what would be similar to getting McCartin from St Kilda last year or Schache from Brisbane this year. A more comparable trade might be the Gunston one back in 2011, Ryder in 2014, or McEvoy in 2013. So in my view we're looking at a late 1st round pick and an approx 4th year fringe 22 player or 2nd round pick as Lobb trade value.

If they don't get what they want they could just shut up shop. That approach didn't work out so well for them with McCarthy though!

Doubt he'll spit the dummy if he doesn't get back to WA (assuming he even asks to be traded which I'm not convinced he'll do - fair chance the go home rumours are his manager angling to push GWS into offering a contract extension with a 2017 pay rise)

Three ageing players who could all be easy get's, for obvious reasons.

Was gonna do a pole but figured it was more appropriate here for comment.

I know he copped a bit of curry here already but out of the 3 I think Balla is the only one with a possible spot and we could get a good couple of years out of him if he stays generally fit and provides a bit of hunger for the pill.

Boomer just too risky but would bring a wealth of outside experience and determination.

Barlow too quick for our midfield.

Possibly true - he's second in the comp for contested marks per game this season. Our own Turbo is 8th and only 0.27 of a mark behind.

However, Lobb doesn't even make the top 100 in the league for total marks per game. GWS's best forward is Patton at #58, ours is Kennedy at #36. The best full time forward is Hogan at #7, and Riewoldt (who has been the outlet on the wing) leads the competition. No primary ruckman is in the top 100.

Based on this season's stats Lobb has the averages of 1.7 contested marks, 1 total mark, and 0.5 goals per game over our own Lycett. He also has 0.9 less disposals, 1.4 less tackles, and 12.7 less hit-outs per game. He's 4 months and 15 games less experienced. The way the numbers stack up he's probably not worth any more than Lycett in salary, or in a trade.

In comparing with Naitanui he's up 0.9 contested marks, 2.1 total marks, 0.7 goals, but down 3.1 clearances, 27.9 hit-outs, 1.7 i50s, and 0.9 disposals. Lobb is more a marking forward, Naitanui is more a midfielder. You're probably not going to be able to replace Naitanui's impact with Lobb, but you'd likely replace Lycett. Question is can Lycett replace Naitanui (at least for a season)?

You've gone the statistical approach. I haven't watched all of GWS's games but he has really come on in the last two seasons. Sometimes I don't think stats really show a player's worth. He is taking his marks at critical times and often in the forward line with a lot of pressure. He looks like an under-developed Kennedy.

Lycett hasn't proved that he improves the team other than back-up to Naitanui. WCE have dropped significantly in all areas since Naitanui was injured - dramatically and depressingly so. I would imagine Lobb would displace a Hill/Lecras/Lamb type from the side.

Next year he's a straight fwd/ruck, the year after with Nic Nat back he's FF with JK to CHF and Darling into the Josh Hill third tall link up player role (for a year or two before JK retires), where he's best suited. Could play Lycett and Nic Nat in the ruck. To avoid being too tall you'd drop Schofield and go with Barass/McGovern as your talls and Shep playing up when needed.

He wanted a trade back to WA, was denied this request and had to endure all of GWS's PR spin on multiple occasions and now has forced the club to accept the trade. That is putting aside any personal issues he may be dealing with, which you are not privy to.

Dangerfield/Judd/Boyd/Ebert all forced trades back to their home states. These are peoples lives, not fantasy football. Some people value certain things over others. Some people can handle a few weeks away from home, some years and some have no problem with a permanent move. Wanting to return home to friends and family that he values doesn't makes him a soft little bitch.

You must really be proud of Ablett/Gunston/Tippett/Davis who all left their home clubs to play at interstate clubs. Are you super proud of them? They aren't mumma's boys are they?

The difference between those other guys and McCarthy is that they didn't demand a trade home midway through a contract.

I don't agree with the SLB tag and it's pretty obvious McCarthy is going through some personal stuff, but generally speaking I think if you sign to play for a club for X years they're entitled to hold you to it. If you think you're going to want to go back home in 12 months time, don't sign a three year deal.

GWS is still very quiet about Jack Steele. Be interesting what's going on behind the scenes.

Dawes could be available - better Fwd/Ruck option than what McInnes has shown? If he was cheap.

We should have a conversation with Freo that we will back off on McCarthy and give his Manager less $ leverage if they back off on Lobb.

Throw the kitchen sink at O'Meara, forget about Lobb. Write off next year as a mid developmental year while NN is out. Use next years first rounder to trade for Hogan (Kennedy replacement). Reap the benefits of a bottom 6 draw. Make it happen.

You are right but I think what people have an issue with is he signed a three year contract extension then, the same year (I think) requested a trade back to Western Australia and, when it didn't happen, sat out the year forcing GWS' hand this trade period. Of course no one knows what issues he is going through and I won't judge that aspect of it and agree that things change and for whatever reasons being home may be more important to him than playing football. That said, there are consequences to signing three year contract extensions and leaving your club in the lurch doesn't sit well with a lot of people. The reasons for it may be perfectly valid though and we really don't know. But a contract is a contract and if a club de-lists a contracted player, they have to pay the player out and they have a right to expect something if a player wants out of his contract.

You are correct that I'm not privy to his personal circumstances so there may be some issues I'm not aware of beyond just missing home. Also players are entitled to seek a trade back to their home state if they aren't comfortable in their new environment - it happens and simply asking for a trade doesn't make them soft

McCarthy signed a contract extension after he was initially drafted which prima facie is an indication that he was happy in Sydney and GWS were treating him well. Freo waved some dollars at him so he decided he wanted to come home and through his manager pushed the desperately wants to come home card to force a trade to Freo

Now GWS ****ed up royally by not coming to terms with Fremantle (could have pick 3 right now had they gone so) but McCarthy threw the toys out of the cot and refused to honour the contract he agreed to of his own free will

He turned his back on an undertaking he'd given and didn't fulfil his side of the contract hence my view he was soft
