I've got Josh Toy on my mind. Might be too young but is a very good player and exactly what we need.

Can go inside and out, has good hands, a stunning 50-65m boot out of defence and run off half-back.

Anyone else? This is just a start of course.

I really like Toy also. Don't have any specific suggestions, but the GC will be ripe for the picking (if not this year, then next) and I like the ides of going after some of their talent.

Having said that, most of us do agree that we need to start looking at getting our balance of youth v experience a little more even, so...

Dont think any of the Gold Coast guys can be traded until after next year (new players cant be traded for their first 2 seasons).

That said, Harley Bennell would be the prototype of what we need most.

Not sure about what Demon 16 said. New players from the National Draft get a minimum 2 year contract but some have been dumped after only 1 year before. I reckon they could be traded. I can't recall it happening though.

I think the 1 year applies to all re-drafted players(?). However, if the club wishes to pay out a player who is one a two year contract they can dump them after one year..though this rarely happens.

Didnt Nathan Buckley leave after his first season at the bears..

Also, there is an exception under the GC scenario in that they were allowed to start with an xpanded list, but must reduce it to the same size as other lists over a coulpe(?) of years.

So they were allowed to delist a number of players after 12 months - and like Wattsy says, I think they get a payout of some sort anyway.

You guys do realise that GC has been going for 2 years. Josh Toy was pre-listed as one of their 17 year olds and has been on their list for two years. He is out of contract.

I believe this to be true.

As good as the young list of GC are, I think we need to focus more on getting mature bodies onto the list. One or two strong midfield types to help at stoppages and our obvious need for a big full forward type. Throw in a quick crumbing forward as well, and these are the types we should be looking at.

Don't get me wrong, I would love Josh Toy at the club, but he would cost us too much, and isn't really what we need right now.

First Time Poster here,

Would Marc Lock from GC be an option. I know he has been delisted and being 19 yrs old, 192 cms and 83kgs, might be worth a look or even a rookie listing?

Possibly Travis Boak? Port need more young guys and he's a leader aswell as a great midfielder, they could give him up. 1st round pick+2 young guys would be alright if you ask me.

Depends which 2 young guys your talking, if it was Tapscott and Gysberts, then no

If it was Fitzpatrick and Maric, then yes

Yeah, definetely wouldn't give up Cook, Gysberts Trengove etc. but if it was someone like Blease or Maric then it could be a good trade for both teams.

He is 28

edit and not worth a first rounder

We need another hard nosed midfielder until the kids get a bit more size about them. Plus if we want any players of quality we will have to pay overs

Agree but Cross has no 'size' about him. Good accumulator, but quite similar to types we have already. Put a cross through Cross.

I agree with you, just dont want to give up a pick 12 for someone who will play for 3 years :)

more a 24-25 year old player would be my choice

And really if we are going to bring someone like this in i would want a real good type more the likes of Boak

Boak would be completely untouchable, wouldn't be hard to figure that out. Good on all the port kids sticking by the club during hard times. Will be hard to beat when they make Adelaide oval their home.

No way we're giving up Blease after treating his injury and now seeing what he can do

Id look at rookieing him if there's space. Midfielder who was GCs captain and b&f at 19 in the VFL and fell out of favour this year. Not sure why as he was really good for them in thier VFL year...
