...Well nearly, I know our season's not over yet but i thought i'd throw a few ideas out and see what people think.

Players to target.

Salopek
Fevola
Chaplin (Port wouldn't want to trade him though)
Polak

What we can offer

Smith + 2nd round pick for Salopek or Chaplin
1st round + Armstrong :( for Polak
1st round + 3rd round & Heffernan for Fevola

I'm a bit reluctant to get rid of Smith, as he hasn't really had the chance to have full crack at it because of injury and Ben Holland, but i think he will make it with a bit of luck. Trade for Salopek could be mutually beneficial, both are talented young guys that have had injuries and would be going back to their home state.

Fevola is an interesting one...the guy can play, its just the fact that Carlton are hopeless doesn't help him. With our midfield putting it down his throat he could be 100 goalkicker. Whether we could afford to pay him is the question.

I would also consider trading Cameron Bruce for the right deal...whilst i think he's a very good player, it really annoyed me when we were struggling that he couldn't lift the team at all and played poorly. So if the deal is right then we should consider it but it would have to be a very good deal.

I welcome any opinions/suggestions, but we'll still focus on this weekend first before we really start getting into all this trade stuff. ;)

You must be on drugs.... why on earth would u want Fevola when u have Robbo, Bruce and Neitz? thats an almost perfect forward, similar to Brisbane when they had Lynch, Brown, Keating

So then we would have a better forward line than Brisbanes

HF: Robertson, Miller, Bruce/Green
FF: Davey, Fevola, Neitz

Looks pretty awesome to me.

You have to be mad to trade Cam Bruce. I'd swap Polak for him in a second. But i wouldn't trade Polak for Armstrong and a 1st rounder.

Though i do like Armstrong. Would like him at Freo. Not sure what to offer though.

no offence to u and obviously ur a big Armstrong fan but he hasnt shown much over the last 2 years, do you think his name will be mentioned in trade week

imagine this as a Forward line once Neitz goes

HF: Davey Miller Bruce
FF: Robertson Fevola Dunn

and still having Green, Holland, Sylvia etc

what would we need to get Fevola though?

i know some here don't rate him much but imagine having a ready made FF to replace neitz and in the meantime, ease him out as much as i hate to say that. we would do so much better if we had him instead of say Smith or Holland acting as our big full forward, regardless of how good Robbo is

Seriously, how good would it be to have the BIG FEVA. for those not keen, all he needs is a good midfield in front of him to give him the aget, then he's set. I'd love him personally. Wouldn't mind Salopek either.

Wouldn't mind Salopek at all, the boy can play. I think he's already said he's coming back to Victoria, although I'd sat the bottom four Vic clubs would have a bigger crack than we would. They could also throw more money at him, although we would have the bargaining chip of a better fringe player to give Port. But I don't like our chances.

Don't want Fevola. Not a case of his supply, it's a case of his attitude. It stinks. I'd rather give a few of our younger guys a chance before him, he's not a team player.

Chaplin and Polak would be decent at the right price. Would prefer Polak, and Armstrong and a high pick (1st rounder) may tempt them, but I don't think it would be enough.

No offence taken, i am an Armstrong fan but he hasn't really done enough, whether it's from lack of opportunity or whatever, he will struggle to be retained. I've seen some good signs in the last couple of games he's played, hasn't gotten many possies, but has tackled and shepherded and has been involved. I wouldn't mind him staying but if there is an offer that will be mutually beneficial, then we should take it.

Do you think his attitude stinks, because he's playing with a bunch of nuff nuffs.

I'm saying in a team that would deliver the ball to him better and more often, his attitude would improve.

Possibly, but trading for him is a big risk. He could turn things around and become a star, or he could continue to be lazy and be a waste of space. And I don't think it's a risk worth taking.

There's no denying his talent, but I'm not sure I'd want his big contract, and I'm not sure I'd want to give up alot for him.

Good point, he would be a risk, and i think a risk worth taking...depending on the amount we would have to pay and what to give up for him. I'd be happy to give up our 1st and 3rd round plus a player for him. But i wouldn't pay $500,000 a year. Say $350,000 plus $75,000 to $100,000 bonus if he perfroms well.

I believe we get his current contract, and he's on big bucks at Carlton. And it's bucks I don't think we can afford. I do want a good replacement for Neitz (and I believe we could shift Frosty to FF in time), but I don't think it would come from Fevola.

But I like your thinking none the less.

Well if Pagan wanted to get rid of him, then they could pay some of his contract couldn't they. Wishful thinking though.

I agree as well that Miller could move to full forward, i actually think he'll be better suited there.

Well he's a leading forward with good hands and some grunt. The problem is finding a replacement CHF if we ever shift him to FF. Bate and Dunn would be the obvious choices in the future, but it's far too early to tell if they will be up to it.

Regardless, I think we might be active in trade week, even if we did end up reaching the finals. What players we go for, however, is anyone's guess.
