Hopefully getting in one 34 year old decreases the chances of us also picking up another 34 year old (Petrie).

I'll be stoked if this trade comes off. Hopefully, Mitchell brings a bit of mongrel to our players, plus he won't be tearing us up like he does virtually every time.

Just be rational about this and think about how much Cousins helped Richmond. His leadership, training work ethic example for young players, taking pressure off Deledio etc. How well have Richmond done since Cousins retired after 2 years with them.

Some of you are losing your ****ing minds. Im just trying to be level headed about the whole thing. Yes its exciting but ill wait to see what trade takes place before i volunteer for the circle jerk.

I don't think any of us are against getting Mitchell (obviously without paying something ridiculous) and actually see it as a win for the club both in the short term and long term.

However let's be real. From the info out there a) Clarkson and Hawthorn have instigated the early trade and it's not like we've gone out and convinced an existing eastern states star player to come over and b) I think without NicNat we'll be there abouts but not quite there and c) Mitchell has 1-2 years left so this trade isn't exactly long term from a player perspective.

Again it's a real positive, etc etc but let's not award trade MVPs out based on this.

It's great that we actually picked up a gun midfielder but lets not pretend there was a chance of it happening if Hawthorn weren't happy to see a 34 year old go after years of great service and 4 flags.
The fact he was talking to us about coaching last year but playing for Hawthorn trying for 4peat says it all doesn't it.

The Hawks gameplan is done. It has had its time but now the highly contested midfields finished top 4 after the finals and he knows it.

Lost to the eventual premiers due to the Dogs contested rolling maul tactics, even complained about it in his press conference.

So Hawks need to make room for quality contested midfielders like Tom Mitchell and JOM (plus they fixed up their CHF issue)
How do they make room, by getting rid of their slowest oldest least contested midfielder they have. Genius by Clarko.

We gain a 34 year old who doesn't even replace the contested part of clearance machine Naitanui.
Not sure we come out infront on this one but time will tell.
