settle the **** down.

Just be rational about this and think about how much Cousins helped Richmond. His leadership, training work ethic example for young players, taking pressure off Deledio etc. How well have Richmond done since Cousins retired after 2 years with them.

Some of you are losing your ******* minds. Im just trying to be level headed about the whole thing. Yes its exciting but ill wait to see what trade takes place before i volunteer for the circle jerk.
I thought cousins was better known for leading a few of Richmond's younger players down the wrong path? Was it Jackson maybe? Can't remember the details.

Why are you comparing it to Cousins though?

Cousins was/is a mess of a human who was still dodging drug tests in the lead up to getting recruited and was taken in basically because the Richmond team thought he was going to off himself.

Mitchell is a clear-headed person who's a genius footballer with a great brain and looking to set himself up.

You realise this trade is with a strong focus on his coaching. He's moving his kids over here, so he's looking to stay long-term.
He might play 1 or 2 seasons (or maybe just 1 or 2 games), but the trade is about seeing him stick around West Coast as a coach.

The benefits just there alone are huge, I view the games he plays as a bonus.

It's a reigning club champion and multiple AA-midfielder wanting to join the club. Isn't that what people have been clamouring for?
we've been clamouring for a 23-27yo gun mid to join us. This trade is about 7-10 years too late, but it will improve us in the very short term at least.

Never booed Mitch, some of his onfield antics (especially the Essendon thing) are hilarious. I think we just picked up on the Hodgey thing last year... harmless. One of our supporters even offered him a drink during the QF ;)

I offered Hodgey a drink during the warm up in that game :)

Some of the trades that are getting thrown around for Mitchell are way off, he's 34, only going to play one year...will be for a late pick or free agency?

Good shit. With Mitchell our midfield "stop gaps" the early season Nic Nat void, giving us two powerful ball winners at the fall (which we need given we aren't going to be winning most taps). If we are in line for top four (and I think we could be) I reckon we will roll the dice on a Nic Nat return just before a final tilt. A flag tilt would be back on - but we kneed Mitchell.

Again it's a real positive, etc etc but let's not award trade MVPs out based on this.

I'm not awarding anything (yet).

I'm just saying, it's hilarious that people have been complaining we never land a big name player and the minute we do, it's not the right big name player.

The Mitchell trade sounds like a winner as long as we do not give up our first round pick and it does not cost us Waterman.
Why would we? We are doing them a favor,no way we are paying overs or even market value

Are you comparing Cousins to Mitchell? Did Richmond offer him a coaching role afterwards? We all know about Bens demons so I don't think this is a great example.

I'm not losing my mind, on the contrary I am very pleased with WCE's initiative in approaching Sam to coach, especially after the whinging on this very board not 24hrs ago.

Playing in 2017 is a bonus.

I am reserved to change my mind however if our first is involved, even our second. I believe the 3rd round is adequate.

ive not seen Mitchell coach at AFL level before. Have you?

Geez were really getting ahead of ourselves if we think a great player automatically translates to great coach. Voss and Buckley come to mind.

Im staying off here for a while. Everyone take a deep breathe and try not to throw out your bible for the Sam Mitchel autobiography.

I just can't help but think that Darling will be involved in the trade somehow.

He's 34, probably past it, only going to play for a year, in what universe is he a big name?

Just can't wait to see the pre season sprint races between mitchell and priddis .
It will be a slow motion epic !
This is one of the few downsides with Sam coming in (if he does)....we all saw what the Bulldogs did last year with pure speed in the mids.

Those guys jumped into the top job too soon, massive difference between head coach and assistant.

Mitchell won't be head coach, he'd likely just be our stoppage coach.
Plenty of good players have become great assistant coaches.

I've seen Mitchell play for 15 years, he'll teach our players a lot.

Jesus, the criteria gets even more difficult to satisfy.

So JOM, Coniglio, Bontempelli wouldn't be sufficient because they're too young. Jelwood, Pendlebury? Nah, they're over 27, not good enough.

Can't win.

It's only top 5 players in the league, but we can't give up anything for them either as that doesn't count.

I hear what you're saying and as I said I see this as a real positive for us but we didn't really go out and land this big name player. Do you think Mitchell comes over if the coaching gig wasn't on offer? Or if he was in his mid (or even late) 20s?

This is a win for us (if it eventuates and we don't pay something ridiculous) but make no mistake that the Hawks would be very pleased about this too.

I can't speak for 'people' but I'm not disappointed in this trade at all, quite the contrary, however this isn't like us going out and convincing a young gun mid to join the club.. far from it.

Well, this is exciting! I think Mitchell will be a great addition to our club if it eventuates.

Also could all the bitching moaners on this board take note that they have been talking about this privately for two weeks? Our club is professional enough not to tell the media every time it takes a piss. Just because we don't hear what is going on, doesn't mean nothing is going on and the club is sitting on its hands.
