Sorry to intrude. Hopefully this is all a con, to show Gold Coast that we have $1mil plus to satisfy O'Meara's contract requirements in the pre-season draft and they accept a second round and next years first round rather than lose him to us for nothing as hopefully no other club has $1mil laying around to meet O'Meara's demands...but if it's not. Hypothetical, if Hawks played Eagles at the G how would you guys feel if Mitchell after the game swapped guernseys with the Hawks player with 5, and did a lap for Hawks fans? He'd be a big enough professional to not let it effect his football. Would you look down at this or as long as he was performing happy for the romance?
I don't think we'd give a shit.

Personally happy for the romance, we may have him for a year or two but he is always going to be remembered as a hawk.

Same way Cousins' time at the Tigers pretty much gets forgotten.

I'm really not sure why people are whinging about this. It's a win/ win for all parties and makes sense.

Hawthorn can free up some cap space to start a bit of a rebuild and replace their aging midfield stars by adding O'Meara and T. Mitchell.

West Coast gain a 4x Premiership player, 5x B&F winner and 3x All Australian. And not to mention he's an A grade, Classy mid who will take focus off of Shuey and Gaff for a year or two all while teaching / mentoring guys like Sheed, Yeo,Duggan,Nelson, Partington etc... and whoever else we bring in through this draft. He will be huge for them, we finally won't just have Priddis being the inspiration to our mids and future mids and teaching them everything they know. Then at the end we get a mid/ stoppage/ strategies coach who has one of the best footy brains in the game right now.

Then lastly it's a win for the Mitchell family. He can get his kids settled into a school in Perth instead of dragging them out after a year. I know all too well how disruptive it is to childrens learning and social skills to be dragged out of a school after the first year. You have to familiarise yourself with an all new school, new teachers and class mates, it's a tough thing for a kid that age.

Also, he definitely suits the wings.

Holy shit just saw McCarthy on the news

The bloke sounds dumber than a box of hammers. Perfect fit at Freo

Happy for the romance. As long as he had 38 touches and scored the match winner with a torpedo after the siren.

Not a great list is it.

Knew nothing of Goodwin until now. We will need at least two rucks for cover in case Lycett doesn't recover quick enough so he or a WAFL ruck will be required on top of someone with AFL experience.

Lobbe is apparently on a 3 yr 500k p.a. contract with PA, so cant see how that would work out unless they paid most of his contract out, but three years....nope.

Vardy is built to break, so not a great option for cover, and long term which would be the thinking, wouldn't make the team.

Petrie wont be able to ruck enough at his age and his recent ruck work has been non existent.

Minson, should be a solid enough option for a 1 year cover option on the cheap.

Hope Lycett recovers well!

Ruck not overly important, we have Giles and Lycett. Not trying to replace NN as we can't. You can win flags without them and Mitchell will be worth his weight in gold.

Glendinning wasn't an eagles player when he was awarded the Brownlow. Mitchell will be, so it counts.
Might happen without him playing a game though. #handjobe decision will be made November 15.

Your first indication of his intelligence should have been the fact he wanted to go to Fremantle.

Notsureifsrs

He was coming to us in 2018 for a coaching gig from all reports, presumably wanting to coach under Simmo. That's the reason why we were 'nominated'.

Why the **** would Mitchell leave the Hawks to play for the Doggies or GWS for a year and then move to us for a coaching gig in 2018?
Well, why leave the Hawks at all?

Because it wasn't the Dogs or GWS or anyone else who attracted him to coach, play or otherwise - it was WC. The fact that we lined him up for coaching is part of the strategy employed by the club.

Therefore the idea that WC waited and did nothing until the Hawks came to them seems a bit silly.

So you noticed as well? Word of warning - just dont say anything she gets a little tetchy when you bring it up

What breasts? If I'm gonna be picky I want them decent size.

I'm not sure if you just haven't kept up to speed with everything that's been reported about the issue, you're trolling or you just don't get it.

I'll humour you.

WCE targeted Mitchell as a future coach a year ago. Presumably this was due to the strong link between Simmo and Mitchell. Now Mitchell could have (possibly) got a job as an assistant at the Hawks (most aspiring coaches however move to different clubs to get different experiences) or entertained offers from other clubs (this would be purely speculation) however from all reports he had a 2018 gig at the Eagles lined up. From a coaching recruitment perspective that's a nice little innovative move by WCE (or just another jobs for the boys exercise but I can see the potential and merit in looking at Mitchell as a assistant coach).

He didn't plan to leave the Hawks. He signed an extension in July ffs. If 12 months ago we were in his ear and had a strategy for him moving to the Eagles next year then we failed miserably. Well up until ol mate Clarko decided he needed the cap space at brownlow night and 'encouraged' Mitchell to consider a move to us a year early. That's why he is (likely) leaving the Hawks. Not because we've been in his ear about coming and playing for us, but because Clarko asked him.

Personally if I was Mitchell knowing that coaching at the Eagles in 2018 was a done deal I would have much rather played on at the club, my only club, that I have achieved so much at, etc etc and retire being a one club player. Yeah not dragging the kids out of school after a year is nice but that is a very small part of the decision process and that's basically the only real benefit to Mitchell coming across a year early. I mean heck he could have not signed the extension, signed with us as an FA for 2017 and then coached in 2018. You can argue that getting to know the club a year early as a player is a positive, but it could also be a negative going from player to coach after just a year in a new club and environment.

Getting Mitchell a year early is a great thing for the Eagles (again assuming the price is right) but you need to stop drinking the kool aid if you think WCE master minded him coming across for 2017 and this wasn't driven primarily (and solely) by Hawthorn's need for cap space.

Yeah good read. Really excited seeming him in Eagles colours for many years to come.
