I've hated Mitchell since he started kneeing people.

I'm happy to overlook that so long as he doesn't do it again.
We need some mongrel in our side.

Among other things I hope he teaches our mids some of that unsociable shit. (Not necessarily the kneeing but a bit of that **** you attitude good teams have)

Parto isn't elite or full of class like Mitchell is. Hoping Parto can really develop under Mitchell!

Neither was Mitchell elite or full of class at Parto's age.

Thats why Mitchell was overlooked for two drafts and had to go to Box Hill in the VFL, what he did there was learn to develop his weaknesses and exploit his strengths.

Mitchell is a very cerebral player as is Parto thats why Parto would develop quickly under Mitchell's tutelage.

Edit : Just read Keyser Soze comment on the same quote ..... Double Bingo.

There are a million positives. It's actually quite exciting.

So long as we don't overpay it's a fantastic pickup; it really changes my expectations for next year (from not much to who knows).

He's been one of my favourite non Eagles players for a long time. Incredibly talented footballer

With him and shuey we arguably have the best two dual sided kicks in the league

absolutely agree.
if he is appointed an on field coach as cox was in his last year and has the authority to coach on the ground, the things he'd be able to teach all of our midfielders is immeasurable.

i just hope his heart is in playing as the last thing we need is another one way midfielder.
he is so flipping smart on the inside, hopefully we can get 2 years out of him, its not like he is going to lose his speed.

but you're the mcginnity of sponsors. You may be a crap sponsor but people still love ya.
like **** I am mate, i'm the Luke Shuey of sponsors.

There's only one Spacey the ****ing Space

I'm not convinced he pushes us back to being a contender next year as we still have a collective weakness through the midfield especially with Naitanui out and whilst he improves our midfield he isn't the silver bullet either

What he will do is provide an education to our midfield group that will have benefits well beyond next year. I've thought that next year we'll need to learn how to set up without a dominant ruck and if we do then we'll be that much better placed to capitalise on Naitanui's return. Mitchell will only accelerate that learning

This is amazing, not going to count the chickens just yet, but you'd have your head buried deep within the dunes if you can't see the plethora of positives the Mitchell move would have.

Being the nice guys at the trade table starting to pay off?

It's also really interesting that he'll be effectively preparing to coach the same blokes he's playing alongside.

Unlike Voss/Buckley etc, he won't be old mates with them, but he'll have had the time to understand their weaknesses and strengths etc.

It'll be interesting to see if it negatively or positively affects what kind of teammate he is

On reflection this is a massive win for the club. Too often Eagles administration is accused of being overly conservative. This Mitchell deal is exactly the opposite.

Aside from coaching and development benefits he brings, bear in mind he just won Hawthon's B&F and regularly chops us up. I can see him in a part midfield/part flanker role and wouldn't write him off playing in 2018. We should manage him carefully ie not play every away game.

Immediate upgrade on Masten, Hutchings, Hill, Butler in best 22 and accelerates development of Duggan et al.

For a late pick this is a great piece of business by the club.

Just concentrating on Sam Mitchell's assistant coaching aspirations and it reflects on how highly rated Adam Simpson must be within the Hawthorn group. Mitchell is one of the best footballers of his generation - probably the smartest - and could've walked into an assistant coaching gig at any Melbourne club upon retiring. Yet he was all but signed up to move his family to the other side of the country to a city in which he absolutely no affiliations to coach underneath Simmo.
And we didn't have to move Perth to the east coast, which was, until a few days ago, the only way we were going to be able to attract players. Keyser Soze we can rejoice, I don't have to turn Australia upside down, or change the name of WA. Suddenly the trade period is more interesting than the cricket going on. :)

60 something pages in a day ! That has to be some kind of record.
And the night is still young for some of you.

I'm glad somebody mentioned this

So often people have bemoaned us being a soft touch at the trade table, sometimes justifiably so, but we do have a track record of getting deals done. In the commentary around this trade there's been references to the good relationship between us and hawthorn such that there's little doubt a deal will get done

This is the type of deal I don't think you'd see happen at some other clubs simply because of a lack of goodwill between the parties or the trust to keep it quiet for so long

Oh hai guyzzzz

Have the West Coast Eagles been active or what today?

Hate the club, so inactive, get active, we want Danger and GAj
