Can we still pickup Hayden?

Boy o boy what an off-season that would be.
Speaking of which ,i think its high time they afl and channel broadcasters had a draught bought in some fresh faces and pissed off old flog commentators like Brian Taylor and dermott brereton

Which was 3 years and a few injuries ago, players age and slow down. Trying to play him, Priddis and Mitchell in the same side would have our midfield looking even more like a bunch of road cones defensively than they already do. There's no chance we pick him up.

Agree it is unlikely but we could do much worse... and we probably will

Not really sure why we'd even need him, he's not going to add anything to our team and is just going to take midfield time away from our young guys in the unlikely event he even got a game

Yeah I guess... one notion I don't subscribe to is the ' taking games away from our young guys '...

Every player should be made to earn their game

That's a fantastic way of ending up like Fremantle this year and dropping off a cliff when you miss a few experienced guys for any length of time. Obviously there has to be some level of form shown in the wafl but put it this way, if Barlow was playing marginally better than Partington in the wafl but both were playing well, I'd pick Partington every time.

Like simmo says, we need to have one eye on the future. At the end of the day Barlow won't improve us and he will be fighting for a spot along guys like hutch and redden.

There are a few blokes on the list that prop us up and make us more competitive but might not be good enough to take us to the top like Jetta, Wellingham, Butler, LeCras, Schofield, Masten, Hill etc..

If we don't make a good dent in the finals next year starts to make you think about anyone 27 (now) and over..

FWIW the 26yr and under crop are all pretty good, Naita, Shuey, Sheppard, McGovern, Cripps, Darling, Gaff, Lycett, Yeo, Sheed, Barrass, Nelson and Duggan. Good core there to re-set from if we have to spend a couple of years towards the bottom...
Those guys are all 25 already is sounding pretty scary haha and not in a good way. We should really be making big moves in the finals with most of the team in their prime. If it takes us another couple of years to fix the problems we're only going to have 1-2 years where we are a serious chance. Inconveniently also against the gws juggernaut. It would be nice to become something like sydney. Bad years are hovering around the bottom of the 8, good years are right at the top. Just annoys me that we're obviously good enough going off last year but we're wasting the talent that is on our list through lack of effort maybe?

Don't you just love it how they make vague rules so they can "interpret" it the way they want when it suits them. I guarantee you if that was anyone but the Hawks/JOM, it would have been shut down.

Or your method being the Demons method perhaps?

Gift youngsters games without them earning them? Madness

Come finals in a contending side you need a certain level of proven experience.

I myself am a proponent of the WC takes too long to blood younger players but gifting them games comes finals is not smart for ones coaching career.

We probably are conveying the same argument.. but best available is where it is at when picking the 22.

Love how this discussion turns into one side making Freo 2016 references while the other side makes Melbourne 2009 references.

It's definitely one or the other, nothing in between.

Yes.. that was my intent when the old freo line got trotted out...

Tunnel vision personified yet I indulged it

We've all heard that a million monkeys banging away on a million keyboards will eventually reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare. Looking at this thread I now know that is bullshit :)
Keep banging away, you might get there yet
