Took this from another thread.....

MELBOURNE
"We'll probably have a fairly low key approach and we'll look to trade, but we'll think we can build our team around our 23 and under players. We've still got a number of older players that we think can be really good contributors as well. We'd like to get some more draft picks in if we could – second- or third-round picks – and if we could trade in a player who is in that 23 or under age bracket that helps us in a specific area, then we'd like to do that too. Overall we'd like to get some more picks for November."
General manager recruiting and list manager Craig Cameron.

From what Craig said, it appears Melbourne are after the following:
-2nd and 3rd round draft picks
-Players in the under 23 age bracket who can be of benefit

Just put some trade talk and ideas in here, and we'll see what we can come up with

Just gives us more depth. Meesen wouldn't play much this year i imagine.

Are you kidding me? i would slot him in as no.2 ruckman automatically pick 9 or so in a draft a few years ago there is way more scope for improvement than PJ or Jamar. Lets be honest here Meesen should get a gig in the side after an impressive preseason showing

I agree, and with Bailey having some SA knowledge, this should help Meesen, assuming he did well in the SANFL. When you think about it, he's a really good pick up, top 10 pick, had a few years development at a top AFL club and still only 20. I'm looking forward to seeing what the future holds for him.

All of this assuming we get him, that is.

I just thought to myself perhaps i was being a bit harsh on Jamar. Then i remembered his kick for goal against Sydney in the round 4 or 5 clash this year. Gettting belted and we needed something, JAMAR!! what a grab 30m out no angle to speak of..he lines them up the big man this will be what Melbourne needs to give them a sniff and lift the boys, very deliberate approach he sizes them up and.....its going going going over the boundary line and out on the full. How he didnt register a score there i'll never know.

preseason hasn't started yet.
we haven't seen much of him, he was far way behind in the adelaide ruck hirachy. i reckon he'll play sandy for a bit and bring him in mid year see how he goes and set him for a massive 2009.

i guess its tough to tell this early.

yeah sorry i meant to say if he shows something in the preseason he should get the no.2 gig.

hahahahaha... harsh man... he looks like he is pushing a lawnmover when he walks into goal.

Is it really worth trading to obtain damon White? are we even in the hunt? Doggies will chase much harder than us, esspecialy if Miller stays.

I'm not a huge admirier of White's abilities to be honest, we'd better to just draft a young KPP and focus on developing him rather than getting White.

i tend to agree because in the end he is the same kinda player as Miller big bloke loads of potental but doing nothing.

Probably dont need another Miller on our list.

From what I can gather, I'd expect us to trade Warnock - he's 23, hasn't shown much at all for us and Richmond have stated that they're after a few taller backmen. Could we get their 3rd rounder for him (or would we have to throw in our 4th round)? This is just an example of what CAC is talking about.

Did Warnock really get given go though?

I remember him playing some ok games when given a chance in fact i think he should have been given more of an opportunity allthough i can't speak for his form in the VFL if he was playing only seen the Melbourne games. Compared to say Ferg though who has been given 6 years of chances i think another year wouldnt hurt if Bailey sees something

i think i'd like to hold onto Warnock for another year... see what he does this year under a new coach....

I'd hold on to him too. At the moment he is worth almost nothing because he's hardly played at senior level, he carries no currency. If we were to trade him I'd say it would be Warnock + 4th rounder for 3rd rounder.....it carries minimal appeal in a weak draft.
So I think we should give him 1 more season :thumbsu:

This is going to be a weird trading period if you ask me. Our premiership window is slightly ajar so maybe we should top up a little...Although some have suggested we should go through a rebuilding stage, so we shouldn't attempt to lure anyone through the trade week

not sure why everyone is expecting miracles from Bailey. I reckon he'll be better than Daniher, but if anyone expects him to give Miller a brain, Johnno a work ethic and make Warnock an AA fullback they're kidding themselves, he's not the wizard of oz. I'm hoping as much as anyone he has a positive influence on our guys but he's probably not going to make a massive difference.

Heard from Gary Lyon the other week and he said we threw absolutely everything at Judd so i guess we're definitely out of that race. Last few years i reckon we've been too scared to make a big trade after the fallout from the Woewodin trade, i reckon we should have a crack this year, not trading for other teams VFL players and 5th round draft picks, do something substantial this year
