I like all this talk but don't understand why we are supposedly giving pick 10 to Freo for Pick 16 if Freo and Brisbane don't appear to be part of the GWS Mini draft thing.

Just breaking up the deals it's:

Deal 1:
GWS trade Mini Pick #1 to Hawthorn
Hawthorn Trade Ladson/Renouf (depending on who you listen to) + Pick 24

Hawthorn Trade Mini Pick #1 to Adelaide
Adelaide Trade Gunston to Hawthorn

Adelaide Trade Mini Pick #1 to GWS
GWS Trade Mini Pick #2 to Adelaide

Deal 2:
Adelaide trade pick 10 to Freo
Freo trade Adelaide pick 16

Freo trade Pick 10 + something to Brisbane
Brisbane trade Clark to Freo

why on earth would we do Deal 2??

That is if this 5 Team trade can be broken up like that.

Dont understand the Freo, Bris, Adelaide side of everyones proposal.

Brisbane aren't part of the first trade. It's expected that Fremantle will use part of what they gain in the first 4-club-deal to trade separately with Brisbane.

Kerr, Brisbane's talent manager:

Kerr said the deal, which could potentially see the rights to O'Meara traded out then returned to GWS via a third club, had prevented other deals from taking place on day two of trade week.

He also said the Lions had not been involved in those discussions and weren't aware what role they would play in any deal with Fremantle for Clark.

"There's been a bit happening behind the scenes and that's probably tied Fremantle up over the last 24 hours," Kerr told afl.com.au's Trade Week Radio.

"We haven't heard anything further than where we were yesterday.

"I think what's happening is the 17-year-old mini draft is obviously occupying the minds of a lot of clubs at the moment and I'm getting the impression that a lot of other things are getting held up until those trades are resolved.

"I'm expecting that there might be a bit more movement once we get past that point."

My best guess:

Part 1)
Hawks send pick 24 an Ladson to GWS for pick 1 in mini draft.

Part 2)
Freo send pick 16 and Palmer compo to GWS for pfiffer(sic) an pick 3 in mini draft

Part 3)
Adelaide trade gunston for pick 1 in mini draft
Adelaide trade pick 10 to freo for pfiffer(sic) and pick 3 in mini draft

Part 4)
Adelaide trade pick 1 in mini draft for pick 2 in mini draft and pick 11.

Mini draft goes Omera, Crouch, Kennedy

So in all we lose gunston and pick 10
Gain pick 11, pfiffer, crouch, and Kennedy

Who does that sound?

Kerr, Brisbane's talent manager:

Yeah makes sense.

I think it'll be far more complex than many here are predicting, ie something along the lines of what is below. I tried to skew each trade in favour of the established club versus GWS a little(I think GWS will pay up a bit just to get each club involved), but chances are I've screwed someone over there, but meh, you get the picture:

Freo gain: Pick 10 + Pick 24 + Pick 31 + GWS Prelist Player (10+24 to be used on Mitch Clark)
Freo lose: Pick 16 + Palmer Compo

Hawthorn gain: Gunston + Pick 35 + GWS Prelist Player
Hawthorn lose: Pick 24 + Ladson

Adelaide gain: MD pick 2 + Pick 16 + Pick 25 + GWS Prelist Player(s)
Adelaide Lose: Gunston + Pick 10 + Pick 35 (+ probably something else)

GWS gain: MD pick 1 + Ladson + Palmer Compo
GWS lose: MD pick 2 + GWS Prelist Players x(any number) + Pick 25(already received from Collingwood) + Pick 31

Moral of the story is I think it will be bloody complex and it will be amusing to listen to Rowey and Cornes attempt to explain it.

I think Roweys head may actually explode trying to figure it all out and explain it

My understanding is Freo haven't offered Brisbane pick 16. If so, why would they offer pick 10? Doesn't add up to me. Can't see this deal happening the way most people are speculating it will.

They haven't offered pick 16 because they might actually need to throw it into this deal.

excuse my ignorance but what exactly is this mini draft? and what pick is pick two in the mini draft equivalent to?

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/117004/default.aspx

It equivalent to a top 5 pick next year. The players pick in the mini draft cannot play AFL football until 2013.

Thirty kids who aren't elegible for this year's draft but whose birthdays fall between January 1 and April 30 1994, can be selected in a 'mini-draft.' However, there are only four picks.

The GWS currently holds all four picks, but must trade them to other AFL clubs in return for picks/players. GWS will choose the best offers and trade mini-draft picks to those clubs. However, they have two years to trade these picks - thus, there might be only one or two mini-draft picks this year.

Players drafted in the mini-draft can play VFL/SANFL/etc but cannot play AFL in their first year. They must wait until 2013.

O'Meara, Crouch and Kennedy are probably the three best prospects from the mini-draft. The team with the first pick will likely take O'Meara. It appears we're hoping to obtain pick 2 and take either Crouch or Kennedy.

Pick 16 wouldn't be enough. Pick 10 plus something would come a hell of a lot closer to getting the deal done. My guess, considering the clubs involved in this mooted "super trade", is that they'd be looking at offering our pick 10 and Hawthorn's pick 24, or something along those lines.

Why for art thou people suggesting 6 & 8 then? ahaha

Ah i just cant see Tippo leaving, yet...

Ladson is a depth player at best for Hawthorn now so they are just giving up their first round pick and steak knives.

Yeah but if ladson doesn't want to leave I wouldn't throw him out there. He is a very good depth player and him along with their first rounder is a but much I would think from their point of view.
Anyway good for us if they are willing.
