So, am I understanding this right - the reason Freo get a pick upgrade "for free" is because they agree to be the intermediate party in this trade? Because as far as I can see, the only reason they're even in the trade is that O'Meary has to pass through two other clubs first.

If so, why don't we just find whoever has pick 11 and get them involved instead?

I'm tempted to listen to 5AA just to hear how badly they stuff up the explanation of this deal!! :D

Keeping with Rowey and Cornesy's immense undestanding of current events, they're currently discussing whether Milburn would be a good coach or not.

Umm because that would be GWS! :p

Yep. GWS need teams to be launders of O'Meara. They may throw an obligatory pick here or there.....dunno. But there would be freebies for doing GWS a favor.

is Crouch quick??

Just so i make this clear for myself, if we select Crouch in the mini draft then he wont be able to play for the AFC in 2012, but 2013?

Thanks lads, thats alright i suppose
2012 Draft
1st Round Draft Pick
Davi$ Compo pick
Crouch.

Looking very very good.

Due to the free mini draft picks given to GWS to on trade, everyone involved will benefit from this scenario. It is merely an opinion of how much. GWS probably get the most considering all they're giving up is something they didn't even own in the first place. Adelaide get a pretty decent deal with Crouch being touted as the 2012 #4 pick, with pick #16. Hawthorn get their man in Gunston with pick #24 which is all they were prepared to give, and Adelaide weren't ready to accept it. Fremantle get a simple pick upgrade from #16->#10 so they can get Mitch Clark.

The Breakdown:-
Adelaide
Gunston traded to Hawthorn for Pick 24 & Ladson
Pick 10 traded to Fremantle for Pick 16
Pick 24 & Ladson to GWS for Mini-Draft selection #2 (Crouch)

Hawthorn
Pick 24 & Rick Ladson to Adelaide for Gunston

Fremantle
Pick 16 to Adelaide for Pick 10
Pick 10 to Brisbane for Clark

Brisbane
Clark to Fremantle for Pick 10

GWS
Mini-Draft selection #1 does the merry go round through Fremantle and Hawthorn.
Mini-Draft selection #2 to Adelaide for Pick 24 & Ladson

In Summary:-
Adelaide
Lose: Gunston - Draft Pick 10
Gain: Mini Draft Pick 2 - Draft Pick 16

Hawthorn
Lose: Ladson - Draft Pick 24
Gain: Gunston

Fremantle
Lose: Draft Pick 16
Gain: Clark

Brisbane
Lose: Clark
Gain: Draft Pick 10

GWS
Lose: Mini Draft Pick 2
Gain: Mini Draft Pick 1 - Ladson - Draft Pick 24

Trying to work this out... It can't be quite so simple. The AFL has said mini draft deals must be equal (i.e. no charity) - If O'Meara needs to go through Hawthorn and Adelaide Gunston and 10 must go to Hawthorn who then give 10 and 24 to GWS in exchange for O'Meara - who then comes to Adelaide as compo for Gunston and 10.

Then: Adelaide give O'meara to GWS for Crouch and a pick (possibly even 10 back)

Which would then allow us to get 16 and a player from Freo for pick 10 which they could then trade to Brisbane for Clark.

Even that doesn't seem quite right... Maybe Clark goes through GWS also? Are compo picks involved?

This could possibly work, but I cant see Adelaide giving up 10 for 16 with no real benefit. the rest of it can all happen regardless. The deal could be done without Freo - O'Meara could go through Hawthorn and Adelaide.

I'm unsure that Hawthorn would be happy to part with Ladson and their 1st round pick for Gunston.

Assuming the mega trade goes through and we pick up Crouch, is he able to be farmed out to an SANFL club (like Sturt ;))?

Yep, he'd go into the SANFL Mini-Draft if he came to Adelaide or Port along with all other previously new Adelaide & Port players previously unaligned with an SANFL club.

Not sure about compo picks, but Clark must go straight from Brisbane to Freo as players can't be on-traded; which is why I assume Brisbane are not actually a part of this deal. The only reason O'Meara can pass through several clubs is because it's actually the #1 Mini Draft pick that is being traded, not O'Meara himself. It's just a given that he'll be taken first in the Mini-Draft.

That's assuming he'll even move to SA next year. Wouldn't he still be in school?
