From the man who pulled the trigger...

“[Perkins] wasn’t interested in doing a contract extension,” Ainge said. “He wanted to test the market.” It was reported that the Perkins rejected a four-year $22 million offer from the team. Perkins was reportedly asking for $30 million over the same period.

Can you blame Perkins in not being interested in a 22/4 extension? That's insulting.

He's just come back from knee surgery and does have a history of injuries.

I'd say DA was being cautiously conservative.

30 million over 4 years can become a big weight around your neck if you arent getting quality production from a player.

Quit being a Boston homo for about 2 minutes and just think about paying Perkins - just about your most important player in regards to winning a championship - 5.5m a year.

Marvin is on about $7.5m per year on his contract. Would happily swap for Perkins on that contract.

I wouldnt pay him $7.5 million a season for 4 years, no way.

2 years maybe, but not 4.

Bad contract waiting to happen with his injury history.

Let's not go overboard here. He has never been more important than KG, Rondo, Pierce
and almost certainly Allen.

Celtics need some Mihmpower.

Love how everyone turns their back on a favorite player as soon as he's traded. ;)

I said barely a week ago that Perkins was nothing before the big 3 era. No doubt he has been a very important player to us, but to believe he is more important than the other four starters is drawing a very long bow.

Last June all I heard for a month was how if Perkins was fit the Celtics would be NBA champs, yet he aint worth 30 over 4? CTFO

Nope, sticking fat with ya main man is the way to go IMO...

and when he retires what then??

Always stick with the team. Have been Spurs since 93 (I know they are easy to support since they are always good). I have thought once or twice about swapping but don't want to be a bandwaggoner. The only time I struggle is the draft as we always have late picks.

Not after he's done a knee he's not.

He's tweaked the other knee now too. Added to that his history of bad shoulders and it's a potential killer of a contract if you pay him that much for that long and he gets injured.

He fit our system perfectly when fit. But that system DOESNT have 4 years left in it.

No way we should pay for 4 years of that. 2 yes, 4 no.

Just reading through the trades, whats with all the teams trying to make the Cavs good again? Still majorly pissed at our trades, so ****ing pissed.

You've lost him this season though. Plus the next few. Your chances of winning it all have significantly plummeted.

Perkins doesn't bring much besides from pretty good low post defense. He has always looked better than he is in Boston's starting line up. Shaq fits our starting line up perfectly and apparently he's coming along great with his achilles and is slimmer  Jeff Green is young and has talent. He is what we need to defend Carmelo and LeBron in playoff series. If we can resign him we have a bit of a better future. Jermaine is also supposed to be coming along fine. Nate was nothing but a chucker. Sure he bought energy in big games but he also wasn't gonna get minutes with Delonte. This trade gives Von Wafer playing time he knows how to score fast. We would've won the championship if Perkins played purely because he is a good rebounder and we couldn't grab a board to save ourselves in game seven nothing else. I'm happy with the trade even though perk is one of my favourite celtics and always will be I wish him the best in OKC and look forward to seeing him play for them. The Celtics are also not done. We will probably pick up Troy Murphy and maybe somebody else. Sheed could be insurance in case one of the O'Neals goes down. The trade is a win for both teams in my opinion.

Who knows.

We go through big slumps in games where we can't score. Him and Rondo are partially part of that problem.

Green and Kristic add a bit more offensively to try and rectify that problem.

To say it all rested on Perkins being fit this year takes away from what the rest of the team had done without him already.

Learn2Paragraph brah.

OKC have done really well. Perfect fit for them. He is more mature but still young enough to be around for awhile with the young guns they have.

Agreed. Two very good trades. Big men to help them go deep in the West this year and not committed to either of them beyond the season.

I do think the Nets lost their minds though. DWill is going to sulk big time.
