Trades- Round 3

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

So I went with...

Morton out for Steve Johnson.

Gaff out for Curnow.

Really hoping Jolly has a huge match.

Montagna didn't handle Matt White's tag too well on the weekend (47 points up to 3/4 time) and with Hayes out for the year, this could become a regular occurrence. I'm also a bit concerned about St Kilda's lacklustre performance so far and am not convinced they're a contender this year. :confused:

Seriously considering a sideways trade to either Pendlebury or Murphy.

He could also do a Gysberts, have an ordinary 3rd game and get dropped.

Why does this fallacy continue to exist ? Gysberts got injured in his third game and didn't play any football for the rest of the year.

It's worth keeping an eye on Gysberts and Wonaeamirri, as both are a good chance to be selected in the seniors this week. Aussie has lost weight and was BOG for Casey on Saturday night and Gysberts is just about back to full fitness and was also really good. Imo they'll replace Jetta and Maric.

Trades this week:
Hayes ---> Curnow
Sumner ---> Tapscott

You can all laugh at my unique rookie selection in Sumner :)

Week after I'll probably do:
Irons ---> Harris

Week after that I'll do:
Savage ---> Boyd

The two rookie sideways trades i always account for every season. The Hayes injury has forced my hand, and I really want Boyd who has a badly timed bye, but it will give Savage his 2nd price rise and more money in the kitty for future upgrades.

Extra 4 trades gone just like that!

Youve got to be kidding me

Considering swallow out for curnow & jolly to cox

Am I burning 2 trades?

My reason is I can't see gold coast winning a game in the first half of the year so I see the rookies in their midfield scoring around the 50-60 mark and jolly has scored really low in 2 games collingwood have won easily while cox is looking good this season

I have broughton n Montagna not looking good also so far but ill stick with them, I dont think I can with jolly!

Ahhh Broughton to Enright is tempting......
I havent had a chance to watch Freo play this year, why is Broughton scoring so poorly?

Sometimes you need to make tough calls and rely on a bit of gut instinct, particularly early on. Montagna's early scoring has been well down and he's currently coughing up 35+ ppg to Pendlebury/Murphy and I just dont see the situation markedly improving.

I could wait until round 8+ to see how things are tracking but the DT horses may have bolted by then. I always allow a couple of early trades to "fix" any issues, perceived or otherwise. I had a top 30 finish in 2008 and some aggressive early trading made the difference. Go hard or go home I say!

If its any consolation, I made the "clinical" decision to keep Hargraves last year after his woeful start adopting the keeper is a keeper mentality... woah did that backfire!, if a guy is not looking right I say back your judgement.

Tags would be very unlikely to average under 100 come seasons end...
but it is likely Pendlebury can average over 115 and considering u make 30k? plus 15ppg in the trade (assuming u feel these numbers are accurate) then that would be worth a trade.

You'd feel downright silly if u made the trade and tags came out with a 140 and pendles got tagged for 85 though :P

Is this worth it? Happy to burn a couple of trades.

Round 3:
1. Foley out for Libba

2. Selwood out for Pendle (selwood only scoring a 27 will possibly drop in value for a buy back- Pendlebury will increase in price)

Round 4 or 5-

Swap Bewick/Smith or Hibberd for Selwood.

Mids: Selwood, Pendle, Swan, Harris, Boyd, Montagna, Libba, (Smith, Hibberd, Bewick)

The reasons you picked Montagna were for consistancy and durability from a top end scoring mid. I have seen nothing that will suggest otherwise to this and he is one player i am aiming to bring into my side.

Pendlebury is yet to be tagged and has played 2 bottom 8 sides in big wins, wont always happen.

M.Murphy has played against 2 bottom 5 sides in the comp.

If you think they are going to avg 130 from just the first 2 games than i have changed my opinion of you. I agree Pendlebury may avg 115+ and get close to 120. But thats the reason i picked him from the start, i also think Montagna was picked at the start of the season with the thought he would avg 110+ get close to 115 i cant see how that is worth a trade.

Early trading can be good but trading out a top 5 midfielder who is durable and consistent. Maybe start having a look at his last 2 years. Whats stopping him from coming out and scoring a 130 while Murphy scores an 85 this week? could very well happen. The only thing to worry about is a tag, i would just keep a close eye on this with the Hayes injury. NDS, Goddard should still get attention before him. Just matchups in the tigers game were best to tag him, Deledio also did a role on Goddard while teams may not allow NDS to roam around getting cheap footy with his quality of skill.

Write the saints off at your own peril, they will eventuality come good and keep improving throughout the year.

After the completion of round 3, prices will change granted that the player has played 3 games. So the likes of Adelaide, GC and Norf players won't change and of course those that have been injured etc.

Hence why people are eager to trade now, jumping on those who will shoot up and be a good cash cow.

Also in regards to two players from one team in the same position (premium ones) I personally wouldn't do it, as good as Pendles is playing, it'd suck when it comes time for Collingwood bye. I guess it being later on and being a single team bye may ease it.

Anyway just an opinion. Will wait till Thursday night before I do my trades, never know what could happen.

Freo's injuries (particularly to Mzungu) have hurt his midfield time. Add to the fact Freo are in pretty shit form, it doesn't help. I'm sticking with him, I can still see Enright copping a tag yet again.

Completely agree. Enright struggled with the tag last year and is yet to cop one which is suprising. Although the little i saw of the fremantle game he played a bit in the middle and swept back from there, maybe an untaggable spot when you have Selwood, Bartel, Chappy, SJ in and around your midfield now.

Also Ibbotson should return this week, he did a lot of small forward roles last year and surely they would want to release Broughton a bit more. Although Ibbo was playing more midfield during NAB not sure if this will continue on during normal season especially after injury.

Does that explain Fyfe's score on the weekend as well?

I'm not suggesting these guys will average 130 this year... although Swan could give it a shake. :eek:

But contrary to your judgement call, I see that the Hayes injury and a less-dominant St Kilda WILL adversely affect Montagna's output; at least in the all important first half of the season. Time will tell.

You don't have Cox? Looks THE must have ruckman this year.

Im just gonna do the jolly > sandi trade. Have just enough cash to do it, and figure that sandi will continually hurt me over the year. Would have been top 100 had i gone sandi or ryder :/
