Teague has been good for Carlton, but we've got Urch and Trotter coming up through the ranks. The jury is still out on McKernan, but his last two games have been more than useful.

Prefer Davey to Shane Harvey.

Petrie or Rawlings? How are Rawlings knees? I tell you what, Petrie at 21 is a much better player than Rawlings at 21.

Shane Clayton - a good squad player, decent enough for Port Melbourne, there's no reason to bag him.

Jade Rawlings hasn't exactly set the world on fire down at the Western Bulldogs.

I may have given Drew a bit of a spray today but would much rather him then Rawlings, sometimes i forget he is only 21 and was playing on a champion.

David Teague @ Carlton > David Teague @ Port Melbourne for him.

Petrie isn’t even close to Jade……Pffft, Id love him to be, but he is closer to a Holland, than Jade imo. We have built him up so much as our replacement (to Carey) its been totally unfair in the kid. He needs to lighten up, and get hold of harris’ running couch (im not joking) so he can keep pace as a CHB. I have full faith Drew will be a gun, just not how many here seem to think.

Harris has a running couch! I'd like to see that! :)

We just need to be aggressive in the trading period this time around. We were good last year, but let other teams screw us when it was crunch time to get a player.
I reckon if we can get a couple of decent trades, and with some of our young guys in the port team hopefully getting senior games next year we wont be far off the mark.

As far as i can see we have very little to trade there is one player who i would consider but i think he is having second yr blues after winning last yrs b/f (i think also he is injured, and playing for the team so to speak)where maybe he should be rested. Its also only 1 bad yr after many fine ones.
People keep saying we need a fullback, thats easier said than done a good fullback takes time to mature. I can think of only 2 or 3 that r really good Fletcher is consistant, Scarlett is extremely impressive, at the start of the yr i thought why r they saying his good but after watching him a bit this yr i now know why. The last 1 is Mal Michael he took about 5 yrs to become good. I cant think of any others, and teams dont trade them so who r we going to get?

From where I see it we will probably have a very quiet trading period.
Today was a good game to expose the areas we need to improve in, and given what we saw, I'd say most of the answers are already on the list.

Sure, I'd like some ready made stars to join us but when you get back to reallity it is easy to see that we don't have anyone of value to offer anybody.

Even the likes of Shagga and Boomer (not that I would even consider trading them) won't command the price they should in todays market.

Agree Vlad, the only guys we might consider trading r maybe young blokes and i wouldnt trade any of them. I think Corey Jones has improved as the yrs gone on. Big Drew has been good defensively not offensively, i think he gets tired and hasnt been pack marking because he has had to chase so many defenders. How many times have u seen him chase when all the so called medium small players should be. Makepeace is now really good. Watt is not our fullback but is now a better backman, Brown is doing well , Motlop has been pretty good in the second half of the yr with keeping the ball in the forward line, Wellsy and Harris have also improved.
Only Harding, Shane Clayton ,Jeremy Clayton, Ben Robbins maybe Porter could be traded, great we may get a pie warmer and a bag of oranges for them.
So really we have to develop what we have.

yeh thats fine, but even though we think there is no one to be traded there is always a few surprises. If Dean can see that he can get an important player to our club im sure some names will be thrown into the ring. We saw how prepared they were to get rawlings. They threw everything at the hawks but bloddy ess screwed us.

Another problem we face, was that as we were 1 of the stronger Melbourne based teams other teams try and avoid making u stronger by giving u a good player ie Essendon, Footscray and Rawlings. This yr there are more Melbourne based teams in there not many more so we might be able to do something, but only at a price.

In the HS today nothing interested me bar D.White. Kosi is next year damn it, oh thats right they can fit 5 guns in their forward half  . Grow our own imo, and sign Monster damn fast!!! Imagine how many whore clubs are chasing him atm. :(

The obvious thing that stood out like dogs balls today was that we need some key defenders. How we are going to get them i don't know but we only seem to have running defenders. How we can play Archer at fullback on one of the best fullforwards in the league is totally amazing and just amplifies how terrible we are in defence. Sure if Colbert and Brown play it's a different story but Colbert gets injured every year and he wont be around much longer. Maybe one more year but that's it. Watt after 7 years in the game apparantly is still learning so that leaves Brown. He is very good but we need a few more with him.

As for saying how young our team is well how old do you think Stkilda are??? Petrie just has to lift. He has been a huge disappointment this year. I'm sick of hearing how hard he tries. He needs to take marks at CHF. Watt has been playing a long time now and if he stil needs more time then F!@#$ me get rid of him. These 2 aren't to blame for todays loss of course but hell don't tell me they are only young. We just played a young team and Geelong are very young as well.
If we need a ready made player then we must trade. I'm happy to get rid of Grant or Harvey. Either will get us a very good player. I'd keep Jones as he does show more potential. Harvey and Grant have showed us all they have so that is something we can trade with. There are other lower order trades we can do but to get a good key defender then we need to trade someone good.

It sounds fine in theory, but many teams have actually hampered their development by trading for players. IN the end, clubs only trade away their mid-range players, and rarely are these types of players the difference between being one of the pack and being a Premiership challenger. Richmond made that mistake after reaching a Preliminary Final in 2001. Essendon have made a similar mistake in taking on Allan and Murphy - are they really that much better off than 12 months ago?

If you look at any Premiership side, the core of the team are invariably the ones that came up through the club ranks.
