Can someone explain what trick Broughton has other than being a sweeper? We have more half bank flankers than could be imagined and I can't see how we need another one. His bit part roles as a mid or forward has been ordinary from what I have seen.
He's about 5 years younger than Guerra. He's better than *just* a sweeper, can play back pocket-ish or push into midfield.

has it been stated anywhere that we are interested in Broughton? or are we just speculating and dreaming of being the list managers?

The media were running with us being interested in Broughton at the start of the trade period.

Seriously once again I'll say it, Broughton will offer us nothing more than what we already have, pointless trade and losing draft picks to pick up a slow average mature player would be going backwards and hurt us in the long term. A big NO from me

Really he doesn't offer us an extra midfield rotation....needed more than ever with the bench being capped to 80, nor do we need an extra lock down small defender, that can also provide run and creativity. Guerra is our only one....that worked out well for us off late.....when you have duds like Morton kicking goals against us you know somethings a miss.

Nothing whatsoever.....apart from media speculation he's available, nothing ties him with us.......its a boring week.......something has to fill in the time. :)

Anyone else interested in picking up Shane Nelson in the draft? He is a 177cm midfielder with some pace and ball winning ability, averaged 25 odd possessions this year in the WAFL from memory.
He will definitely be available for our first pick and is only 19 playing seniors in the WAFL. At last years' draft testing he scored 29/30 for the Buckley kicking test but got sick when it came to the athletic side. This year he has tested well in the WA testing for speed, agility and repeat sprints. Could he be worth a look?

Sounds good but we really need to move away from sub 180cm. We have the most in the league by some way. I think we can into the season with something like 10 but only 3 play in the seniors at one time.

Is he wheelchair bound or simply short?

Cyril Rioli is 177cm too, should we not play him in the middle?
Height in midfielders is severely overrated on here.

When none of your core midfielders can take a contested mark around the ground or push forward and take one like Pendlebury, Kennedy etc height is a definite issue.

Unlike those clubs though we have small forwards who get the job done so we don't necessarily need them to clog up our forward line. Nelson is an inside/outside midfielder with pace, ball winning ability, good use and has played senior footy this year. He is exactly what we are crying out for and he will be available at our first pick

In the spirit of targeting players we have had a sniff at in the past I await Matt Campbells arrival.

Good point. This is going to become even more vital if the bench changes that they are considering come into play.

Well that's that then. ;)

Move along people, nothing to see here.

It's just my opinion, I would much rather not part with draft picks in a pretty good draft and help look to our future then going after another player who won't improve us a hell of a lot. People on here just seem to want to always be trading and picking up new players for the sake of it. Drafting kids and looking into the longterm is hardly ever discussed on here, it's all about the now apparently.

We are in the premiership window and need one more impact player "Stewy Dew says hello, with his 2008 premiership medal"..... If they cost us nothing and has the same potential, we need to go for it!!

Some times you have play for the present, when your that close ;) and next year we will be there again (if not weve epically failed)

With the stacked deck that the AFL have dealt the non-expansion teams for the coming years I'm in the mortgage the future for short term gains camp. We must capitalize whilst we are realistic contenders, then we can worry about the medium term.

I would much rather go all out and win a premiership now and suffer a few years of pain rebuilding than go have arsed miss out on our opportunity at winning a grand final and ultimately still suffer a few years of pain with a mini rebuild. Our time is now......right now we're at the very top/pointy end of the mountain with one foot virtually on the decline.
Our core midfielders aren't going to improve, they are at the top of there game right at this moment, either they are going to sustain there form or drop off, we are already one down with our rotations in the middle with Whitecross being out for half the season.......By the looks of things we are going to have an exodus of depth players from our club looking for more opportunity........Murphy Young Gilham
IMO when i look at a player from another club, i don't look at him solely on his talents.....I look at how he can improve our side, what roles can he play..... can he free up Shiels from tagging to having a regular midfield gig, can he free up Birchall Burgoyne and or Suckling to go further up the ground whilst still being a player thats competent in the back half, can he add to the midfield rotations. Can he do a lock down job on a dangerous small forward............. He has the potential to bring a lot to our side.

I am already feeling tight in my chest at the thought of Clinton Young leaving us, I really hope its not him but its not looking good:(

Well Barret said they will Discuss Young
