Hi guys

Just wondering if the crows will have a train on list like we have had in the past? I know we havent had one recently except for Henderson last year.

However, I think this would provide a good tool to see if any delisted players and young players (which miss out on the national draft) to be considered for our rookie list if they train strongly with us. I think i have heard previously we stay away from this method now as we have a fair idea who we would want in rookie drafts anyway and due to a few years ago port watching our train on list and 'pinching' ones we were interested in.

Some mature age players that personally interest me are players like cam cloke, rhan hooper, cleve hughes etc

Your thoughts?

I think the only people that would be training with us would be blokes like henderson etc who are not coming from the system already. Having said this I don't think there is a list this year and I haven't heard the names of anyone.

I think it's Rendell's view that if there is a player from another club etc etc, by all means interview them but you don't necessarily need them to train with us, and they should already know enough about the player to make a decision about drafting them.

If we had someone like this Eljay Connors training with us, a scout from Port will see him and could then possibly nab him before one of our picks etc

That's pretty much what it boils down to. We got sick and tired of having a bunch of SANFL prospective rookies train with us, only to see Port steal them before we could draft them ourselves.

Since then, the philosophy seems to have changed. The recruiters back themselves in, having seen plenty of the players during the year they don't think there's anything to be gained by exposing our hand via the train on list.

I thought Eljay was going to train with us? Or was that just a rumour?

In any event, we now have an advantage we haven't had in the past - our new facility :thumbsu: Someone like Eljay Connors can come and train indoors, we can do all the ballwork and athletic tests we need, and make our own mind up there away from the prying eyes of Port.

I would certainly like to see the Crows put more effort into this in the future. Seems to me that there is a potential advantage with relatively little cost and we should exploit it.

Yeah my thoughts exactly. It would be good if we tested prospective rookies in house so port scouts don't know our intentions. Thanks very much for clearing this up. much appreciated.
