Ok now this will not be as comprehensive as Crow*Girl's reports, so please do not compare.
I was all set and had my notepad and pen ready, I had picked a nice little spot away from everyone else and the trainers decided to park their van and set up next me. So surounded by the trainers and Charlie Walsh I was a little hesitant about taking notes in front of them, so this is all from memory.
The players wandered out around 8.15am. The session lasted for just over 2 hours. During that time Trent was on the bike behind me for about an hour all up before he headed back in.
Petrenko and Armstrong were always on the sidelines doing run throughs and other football work with one of our runners. Joining them at various stages were Dangerfield, Otten, Kite, Cook, Martin and Sam Martyn who had flown in this morning.
The main session started off as normal with stretches and run throughs/lane work. With the lane work it would start with one player at the back, in the middle was another player and then the same distance away were the rest of the players in that 'lane'. One player from the group would kick to the player in the middle who would immediately drop the football or tap it away to be collected by the player that kicked it in the first place who handballed to the player at the end on their own. This went on for a while with the ball sometimes knocked towards the ground and sometimes up in air. Each player in the group would rotate through the three areas. The coaches became involved later on when they would push the players away when they were trying to collected the ball and handball it to the end. So in effect it was working on the bump and immediate give.
The next main drill had three seperate groups. One was the forwards and backs that were matched up in groups of two and they were kicking to each one on one contest. Match ups included
Rutten and Sellar - Rutten spent a bit of time before each contest seeming to tell Sellar what he should be doing
Gallman and Walker - these two were at it full pace. At one stage they were both contesting the ball that they ran into the next group and it finished as a stalemate on the ground with them both lying on the ball.
Jacky and Martyn (the new guy) - Jacky was very impressive the whole session and in fact spent a lot of the time joking around with his more senior teammates. I would not be surprised to see him start round 1, he looks like he belongs out there.
McGregor and Moran - they were the opposite side to me so I didn't see what was going on there too much
Burton and Massie - probably broke even in the contests
Stevens and Gill - again stevens was quite impressive over the whole session, he seems to have improved some of his body on body work but when he comes from a space away his ability to punch the ball away is very good.
There was one other group of three that included Jericho and I can't remember the other two at the moment.
While this was going on up the other end of the ground two groups were involved in some tackle drills and collecting the ball. I didn't pay too much attention as I was more interested in the forward and back contests. The groups all merged together to do some more tackling. What I really noticed is that Sellar doesn't use his speed to break away from the tackle. Rutten, they either don't want to tackle him or when they do he knows how to break the tackle.
What I noticed about Moran is that his skills aren't too bad, he just has the slight pause where he thinks about what to do before doing it. So at the moment he is taking his time to make sure he is making the right decision.
For drummond - Campbell has nice skills and gets amongst it well but he has the issue of thinking ahead and it shows in his execution. He dropped marks a number of times because he had already started to move towards what he was going to do next.
Ours boys need to learn to play netball. The number of players that when passing to a team mate still pass to where they used to be and not where they were going was considerable. A couple of players also try and mark the ball with curved and close together fingers, hence dropping the mark (cook was one of those).
Mackay apparently has impressed greatly on the track over the past two weeks and Griff's attidude was also great in demanding the ball.
That's it for now, I have to sign off and will add more a little later.
cheers

There was some assisted hamstring stretches occurring with Dangerfield. Nobody does assisted stretching anymore, it is quite frowned upon. Also many of our younger guys when doing push ups drop their heads, which means that their backs are slightly arched and therefore they are relying on their backs to do more of the work in a push up than their arms.
