The 'realistic' part of me says Frampton structurally keeps us straight. Just on Frampton he really stepped up when we needed him early in the season and he can always swap with Howe if needed. He does give options including taking the forward ruck role.
While I am at it stop knocking Lipinski, anyone who says a player pulls out of a contest or shirks it should be embarrassed. You have to have strength of character just to be out on an AFL field. When he is on he delivers the ball inside fifty superbly. Yes he has had a couple of bad quarters. He is in our bottom six picked and a role player. Let's be real he was not alone fumbling last week. We have had some players out of form. Elliot and Mihocek have been really quiet past two games. Lipinski is a Collingwood player. I support all players that play for us including Noble and Frampton.
Fly got us to here. I think he knows what he is doing.
Let's get behind the boys this week and support them all.

Checkers had a ripping game against Melbourne. He beat May.

I know that was just an aside, but I thought I'd mention it as I've read a couple bemoaning Checkers in finals

I think this is good though isn't it? Frampton won't be our main target so forcing Andrews to peel off to deal with him means one less guarding Mihocek or even Elliot.

I meant the exact opposite. Andrews will leave Frampton to effect the contest with Miho/Elliot etc.
Frampton has been ineffective playing forward, can't see it magically changing this weekend. Howe has much better forward craft.

of course we want him to do well...channel 9 footy classified last night highlighted his lack of intensity ..not to mention the ..fumbling and turnovers ..we can't win the premiership with players doing that,,,.it was all there on the footage and we saw it live on Friday and the game before...its not personal..and of course you have to have courage to be an AFL player ..some just have more than others and some have greater intensity...If he stays in the team I hope he lifts big time because he will need to..we don't want anymore rhyce shaw -allistair Lynch grand final moments 20 years later

The reality is he’s uber slow which also doesn’t help his ability to contest ie. closing space, chasing and getting to loose ball contests in his vicinity are often problematic.

And for mine, it’s not just 1 or 2 contests last week, he’s noticeably been protecting or favouring his reconstructed shoulder since his return from injury. Sub-consciously this is understandable and not surprising at all. Will it be costly for the team in a GF, who knows. Do you have to consider other options if they’re available, other options that play with more aggression and physicality, of course you do.

To be fair, the knock on him at Western Bulldogs and the reason stated as to why he couldn’t settle in the seniors was both his lack of pace and lack of aggression /hardness in the contest.

But he’s in the team and we all wish & hope he rips it apart on Saturday, kicks a couple, sets a couple up and drives kiddy Coleman into the turf with a ball ‘n all tackle in minute 1, to set the team alight.

Except that McStay would have been a much more difficult opponent for Andrews as he was for Taylor of GWS.

I don't really think that GWS need to pay a great deal of respect to Frampton. If he tries to drag Andrews into no man's land, why would Andrews bother to follow him? A second string defender could as easily switch on to him and leave Andrews to remain in a position where he is likely to be most involved in the play. I don't see Frampton dictating to Brisbane where their key interceptor and defender will play on the ground.

Hopefully we can hit up Frampton early and he can hit the scoreboard. They’ll then have to pay him a lot more attention, to the benefit of our other forwards.

I never suggested WHE so you can't accuse me of lunacy. I also wanted to maintain the forward structure, though with Kreuger not Frampton. One way or another we are going to be experimenting in the GF.

Solid session yesterday, with some mixed results.

The bad news is that Tay basically did his hammy again. I knew it wasn't a good sign when he was only able to complete 20 mins of the session; even if his session was just meant to be light work, the fact he wasnt out there for long suggested something was wrong. Which then got confirmed to us later.

Frampton, Ginni were initially in white when they came out onto the ground, and Noble black. But once match play started, they swapped. Frampton and Ginni in black, both were up forward (Ginni served as that 7th forward off the bench) and Frampton FF, seemed to be filling the Mcstay role.
Noble had changed to white to play on Nick, who was playing half forward.

Howe, Moore didn't participate, they did some drills, but then did a few run throughs.

Lippa was on the wing.


Not sure where Sidey lined up. Maybe he was on the bench. But I noticed this was the set up.

Fly had a chat to Ginni post training, very easily going chat, talking about set plays I suppose, as they were pointing fingers to certain areas of the ground, and left smiling once they were done having a discussion.

The boys mingled a bit, before giving away footies to the kids in the crowd.

Thurs is the next main session.

It's going to pose a conundrum for their selection.

He's a risk even if passed fit, so do they then have Gardiner as the sub?

I doubt that they play both.

If Gardiner is sub then it's an issue as he really only can play defence.

If he's not sub and Payne is injured or hobbling they have no over talls in their back half apart from Andrews.

Kreugers ground ball reaction time, and speed are better, but Framptons size, and positional flexibility are far more valuable.

To me, structure is where you want a bloke to position and thus the role. Eg. it's the same structure in defence whether you've got Darcy Moore or Maynard standing in a particular spot - it's not a structural difference that Darcy is stronger in the air.

To me, Frampton is a risk in terms of fwd structure as he's the one you can rely on the least to get to the right spots and give us the structure we want.

What he'd give us though is McStay's skillset to play the role in the same style - as opposed to an AJ style, which is more like how WHE or Howe would play the role - try to get a bit of separation to leap and have little hope of shifting a bloke in strong position or holdin position under a ball.

After having been very anti Frampton as a forward, I've come on board. It's a Granny. It's going to be messy with lots of bombs forward. And Billy and Cox competing give us the best chance of scoring from bombs to the hotspot either with a mark or from dangerous spills.

Yep. That's his weapon. Numbers around the contest wins the contest more often than not and Lippa gets around the contest more often than any replacement would.
