Richmond has these guys in our training squad i think for the last rookie spot. They were taken in the training squad draft today.

We all know Trav form a few years back, he has been playing great WAFL footy last couple of years. Dont know much about the other two. From my understanding the last spot is filled in march just before the season starts

1. Richmond - Travis Casserly (Rich/Swan Districts)
3. Richmond - Mitch Keddall (Port Melbourne)
5. Richmond - Liam Corrie (Sth Adelaide)

Yep you have.

AFL brought in a new rule which allows clubs to hold up to three players on their "Training Squad".

This basically means that these players can train with the club over the summer, and even play in the NAB Cup. At the end of the NAB Cup the club can then choose to fill their remaining rookie spot/s with however many of these guys are neccessary.

From my understanding players in the "Training Squad" group can train with the group and are also eligible to play in the NAB cup games, if we then like what we see from them we can rookie them before the NAB GF.

That's my understanding not 100% sure on it though so could be entirely wrong about it.

^^^^ Beat me too it D2C.

Thanks for that, D2C.

I like this drafting option; this and the change to the mature rookie last year are great additions to Rookie system. Can clubs only chose from their own training list?

& I assume, say we want one of Hawthorn's for example, but they want him too... We can't rookie them as Hawthorn "Drafted" them?

ie: If we say want to give Trav another crack if he plays well, we are gaurenteed to be able to rookie him to that last spot?

logically because they were the only clubs to still have a space on their rookie list that they wanted to fill but hadn't made a decision regarding their last spot.

:confused:A rookie list training squad ...... this is the most absurd and farcical concept I have ever encountered.

Surely a national draft, pre-season and rookie draft is already enough - if not one too many!!

At this rate of new schemes, I'm a shot at ending up on our lsit by mid-season!!!

Get in there Goldust we'll chuck you in the middle with Martin :thumbsu:

:)I'd do my best to clear a path for him and feed him plenty of the pill!

He is one that doesn't need it though;)

On the youtube package for Travis Casserley, if that is an example of where he is at, no much chance you would think.

The other kid, Corrie, has a decent kick on him...that shot early from the 50, went though post high!

Yeh that Liam Corrie kid looks good! only 19 and has a booming left foot and most of all has some body size to match it with men!

Liam Corrie began playing at Morphett Vale Football Club in Southern Football League in SA, same first club as Jason Torney. He played in A grade grand final at the age of 16, and debuted for South Adelaide in the SANFL at the age of 16 too. We wish him the best of luck.

He looks good. A fair bit of physicality in his game too. I like that he can play inside as well.

Good choice for this training draft system I think. We can get a real handle on his work ethic and dedication.

Be interesting to see how he stacks up against the others.

i didn't realise us and the hawks were the only team that made use of the training squad draft.

good on us

Yep, ahead of the pack for once and trying something innovative.

Our club really is changing.

Disagree mate. We used to have training squads show up for rookie training for a couple of weeks post ND, whats wrong with extending that out by 2 months or so, to give the boys a chance to prove they want it badly enough, and to give the football department a larger window in which to judge their ability & which 1 of the 3 we want.

On top of that, I assume we aren't obliged to take any of them of them if we so choose.

It's a good scheme, in which I am glad we took part of.

I'd assume that if we don't we end up one short on our rookie list, so would take the one that best fits a need (as they all show promise obviously).
