wellingham at half back is the move i'd make, we need another attacking running hbf playmaker that gets it 25 times. Was great as opti said against the tigs, looks suited to that role IMO.

I think it's best Dave keeps quiet. I heard Anthony Corrie needed councelling after the spray Dave game him one VFL game while filming.

Interested in Wellingham playing off a half back flank. He is not afraid to take guys on and has good leg speed. Needs to be able to be accountable for a forward though. Stuff ups down back result in goals.

Like to see him play on Schneider or Milne in the 1st NAB Cup game. Give him a good test.

I just have a feeling Simon Buckley will be a real surprise packet for us this year and play plenty of footy in the seniors.

I'm a litte worried that Dale Thomas didn't train. Hope he is ok.

Dale was limping on Monday as he went off the ground early... not surprised he is a no show at training, I suspect he has a left arch foot injury of some sort. DAMN IT!

That one wasn't the shot. It was one of those ones where you take a photo of yourself by holding the camera in front of your pace. I'd love to dig that thread up actually, it was gold haha.

I think I have it on DVD somewhere.

yeah It was taken at last year Intra-Club match when it was about 45 Degrees that day

LOLs

A bit like this Dave.

From all the photos I've seen of training so far this pre-season, Wellingham looks mega lean/fit at the moment. I think he is set for a big season if he gets a few selection breaks but I can't see it happening for him as a HBF.

Thomas absolutely dominated a NAB game last time in the back half and it was probably the best game I've seen him play. He has never played there for a full quarter in the AFL, let alone a whole match. I think they are probably trying to add attributes to Wellingham's game with a view to turning him into a tagger, just as Thomas was deployed in a defensive role (albeit in the forward line) last season. I think of the two players I would prefer to see Thomas in the back half as he is more courageous, probably a better kicking decision maker (not a better kick), is better overhead, is better 1 on 1 and is even quicker. I just don't see him as any more than a burst midfielder at this point of his career and I see the back half as a postion where he might be able to dominate and not just perform adequately with moments of brilliance. Wellingham to me is a tagger, a winger or a hff.

Thoughts?

Thoughts? Something like this.

What's Harry done to you???

Heater, Harry, and Maxy give us adequate run out of defence. I agree that they are probably playing guys like Wellingham and Thomas in defence to improve the defensive side of their games, rather than a view to playing them there long term. And don't agree with playing a 7 man backline. We already don't have a contested marking forward so need options. Robbing Peter to pay Paul IMO.

Oops, yes I did that quickly and forgot our best???? Will edit.
That means Thomas out, Harry in. I think it's worth trialling him in there at some stage though as I think he has the attributes.

The 7 man backline is inevitable. We always play with 7 men (at least) in our defence and teams posted with a standard 6 - 6 - 6 formation are an inaccurate reflection of today's AFL. 7 - 6 -5 or even 7 - 7 - 4 are both far more realistic than the outdated 6 -6 -6. It doesn't happen often, especially with Mick. I think when we post our teams we should think more about what the team would REALLY look like and not what the Herald Sun thinks it still does look like.
