Will they go straight back into the team?

If so who will they replace?

Personally (before people put words in my mouth) i hope they come straight back in, but i cant see who we should drop.. tough to drop players on their form against the cats coming off a hard week in darwin..

thoughts people?

I can tell you it wont be Gysberts.

We also need to look at McKenzie, will he be selected again or hay Gysberts taken his spot for now?

I didn't think anyone in the midfield had a really bad day they were just out classed.

TBH i think Bailey will rest them until the end of the break. They'll be back for the QB match.

They'll be back next week for sure.

Bate should be back as well, and a second ruckman should be considered against Carlton with two legitimate ruck options.

Gysberts will definitely be playing. McKenzies chances will depend on his performance tomorrow.

Any of Wonaeamirri, Bennell, Watts, Rivers, Garland (Inj), Bartram, Macdonald, Jones could be considered to be dropped.

Thought these two would have definately held their spots today.

Jones only under threat due to Gysberts, Scully and Trengove all possibly superior mids. His second half was a lot tighter on Ablett. Not that Ablett really destroyed us in the first in my opinion.

Bennell under threat for only having 5 touches today. Definitely still ahead of Wona and I'd be surprised if they dropped him, but he has to get into games more when he's quiet (or the coaches should get him into games).

***Pending on VFL form

IN:scully, trengove, bate

OUT:Garland (inj) Rivers, possibly wonnaemirri

bruce needs a break, handful of posessions for the loose man in defence, not enough and not good enough

I think we had one too many defenders in the side today (not that it made any difference to the actual game, just looking at the on-paper balance of the side), so I think Garland will be out for one of them if injured, or possibly even if ok given Carltank's small forward line.

I thought Wonaeamirri looked somewhat fitter this week, probably due to the cooler climate, so unsure what the club's plan will be with his fitness.

I'd think Watts would have to stay in, since he can't really be chastised for a quiet performance against the premiership Geelong defence, and with very little delivery.

Rivers didn't play great, and isn't great against smalls.

For mine, Wonna + Garland out, Scully + Trengove in

If Jordie kills it out of the blocks next week, in for Rivers.

Would make us a bit midfield heavy, but having too many tall defenders against the Blues wouldn't be a good idea either.

Edit: Forgot about Bate. Dunno if he can come back in for Miller, or if there gonna give Bradley another week.

when watts plays forward he needs to start in the square simple as that. its like playing tennis you either play baseline or net, not in ****in no mands land in the middle. not his fault tho needs some teaching from the so called forward coaches

I think he plays better up the ground at the moment, but what it is important is for him to always be moving, he's no good standing still.

Dropping a man back didn't help Watts and the other forwards chances, but we have to develop the team as a whole so it might have been the right call. It's hard to say without being at the game.

Wonna and Rivers are chances to miss, can't see Bartram getting dropped though. Byrnes was well down today.

Why is Bartram's name always brought up when it comes to team changes, the guy to me has been playing sensationally and definetly deserves to stay in the team.

In terms of changes surely Woneamirri has to go out, he wasnt good today and was worse last week, also i'd say depending on Garland's injury i'd say rivers goes out due to the fact that Carltons forward line is quite small.

So my changes would be Scully, Trengrove and Bate IN Woneamirri, Rivers and maybe Jetta OUT purely based on the fact that the 3 players coming in are more important and would have a better inpact on the game then Jetta, also i think Jones was better then Jetta today and hes the other that would be up for the chop....Mckenzie unlucky

if he is better suited up the ground that is fine, then he should play true CHF and start from 50. our problem is the forward line is very crowded with the forwards starting at the 25 meter mark. whoever the FF is at the time needs to have the whole 50 to run into some space

In: Scully, Trengove, Bate

Out: Wonna, Garland (inj), not sure

I'd drop Rivers but I've already had to lose Garland and I can't see how we could lose 2 defenders and a forward and bring in 2 midfielders and a forward.

In: Trengove, Scully, Bate, Martin
Out: Garland(inj), Rivers, Wonaeamirri, ???

Garland - Injury although he might be right to play. Apparently it was only a jarred knee so he might be okay I don't know much about them.

Rivers - Didn't do much wrong but didn't do much right, IMO there is no need for im against Carlton. IIRC they only have Setanta, Henderson and Waite as talls, and we've got Warnock, Frawley and Macdonald can play tallish. If Martin comes in he can also drop back in defence.
Wonaeamirri - Once again didn't do much wrong but possibly needs a bit more match fitness, IMO I didn't think he was fit enough to come back last week, could do with another game for Casey.

Martin - To come in hopefully if his form is good. Will give Jamar some help in the ruck and can drop back or has hopefully learnt how to mark etc and can play forward.

My opinion would be that they are both in the best 22 so should play, players to drop:

Wonna, Garland Outs

One more from Bennell, Jones, Bartram, and even bruce

Scully, Trengove and Bate in

Cant see Mckenzie getting back into the side easily at all this week... and he is probably my favourite player atm :(

All this and we still have a guy by the name of Blease to slide in who could be better than the Jizz!!!!

Got to love this depth

To the letter of the law you could make an arguement for dropping Wona as he is not quite up to where he needs to be but I think it would be detrimental. I think we'll see incremental improvement out of him the more senior games he plays, especially at the 'G.

Admittedly it makes it hard though because we have genuine players pushing for spots. Even McKenzie could be a handy addition because his game style complements the others. Gysberts has certainly staked a claim though in 1 game.

We are at a very important stage where we need to develop a shit load of kids and knee jerk reactions are counter productive. Garland has been so so but some times you just have to persist with them (to an extent) to help them turn the corner or confidence can suffer and lead to longer term problems.

Rivers may be 1 to drop given besides Setanta most Carlton forwards are small/medium. Henderson could play forward but I think we can cover him without Rivers. Not sure where Waite is at but they aren't going to upset their balance with all talls up there anyway. We need to play Garland into form, he is too important in the long term to put on the shelf IMO.

I'll probably get baked for this but I am kind of in two minds at giving Junior Mac a rest - he's played out of his skin this year, 33 yrs old and come off a game in Darwin and then Skilled. The captaincy factor might not allow for it but I think he could do with a rejuvenation given the way he has put his body on the line every week. It would also be good experience for the Vice to run the show and see how the kids go without him. Collingwood did the same with Buckley in his latter years when they travelled - speaking of which, McDonald would be fresh for the QB game.

Funny that we cant slide our number 1+2 picks from last years draft into the side easily at all.....especially when they were playing well and just getting a rest, wouldn't be surprised actually if one or both miss....

I don't know what game they were showing on TV but live, Jones was quite good. The radio commentators liked him too. He shouldn't have been on Ablett when he moved forward but he doesn't make that call.
