i'm a bit sad... its the end of an era but i guess it was always gonna happen eventually... it did lose some of its glamour in latter years but i'll never forget the first few years of the World Series Cup... classic cricket!!

I guess it was always going to happen with the issues about the volume of cricket being played.
It will be interesting to see how the new format plays out and if the public enjoys that more than the tri-series

basically our summer schedule will look similars to england's summer schedule now that they have dumped the natwest series 2 summers ago.

it'd be interesting to see what our english friends think how that format seems to work.

Australia will play virtually the same amount of games though.

What concerns me, besides the fact that it makes the ODI's here even more meaningless, is that say for example there is 2 five match series every summer, how often will we see a 3-0 or 3-1 scoreline leaving 3 or 4 dead rubbers every summer?

The VB series is a bit of an anachronism. Unfortunately lately its been hard to get 2 competitive sides out here, which means Australia, one decent side, and one whipping boy. As a result theres a heap of matches with basically zero interest.

I'd prefer to play a 7 match series against the good teams, maybe a best of three against the duds. Pretty much the same a everywhere else in the world.

This year Sri Lanka have flown out here, played tests, gone home, then have to come back in a month or so to play in the VB series. You can understand why other countries might not be too enthusiastic about it. Playing a test series, then a one day series against the same country would make scheduling much simpler

Sh*t, they would too, I just realized that :o. Do they play 6 or 8 games in the tri-series? If they played 8, then they normally win the finals in straight sets. That makes 10 games, which makes the same amount that they will play under the new format. It's been confirmed there will be two 5 match series. (Fox Sports)

Guess my first post doesn't mean anything now

It's a massive free kick for the World Game and Tennis. If it's like the preliminary games of the tri series, and it's 3-0 after 3 then interest will be ZERO. Personally I would have preferred a 6 game per side tri-series with 1 final. It's also very bad news for Hobart cricket fans who probably won't get to see Australia play in some years unless another venue gets 1 less game (and I doubt anyone would want that to happen).

a standard aussie summer sees us host 14-15 odi's and normally no 20/20's.

we'd still be playing 10 odi's (and on some occasions more) and 2-3 20/20 matches. cricket australia will make sure there is no downfall and all states host the same amount of games they are hosting now.

agree that no states will miss out, but some states could easily end up hosting nothing but dead rubbers. hopefully, CA will make sure this doesn't happen to the same states year in, year out.

i'm all for getting rid of the tri-series, but the notion of a couple of 5 game series isn't without problems of it's own.

it has less complications than a long winded tri-series that gets played to see 2 teams fight off in a 3 match finals series.

sure, there will be some dead rubbers at times, it's not as if cricket is the only sport with dead rubbers. because of the limited amount of international cricket played in each state each summer, i'm sure fans will still attend an odi if say for example it was the 4th odi of a 5 match series and australia were 3-0 up.

australia may have to get out of test mode and into one day mode more regularly (its not as if they haven't in the past).

so it could be..test series 1, odi series 1, odi series 2, test series 2 or vice versa. i think it could free up players to play a little more regularly for their state too.

It's crap... Tests end in August and we have a month and a half of random ODI's at the end of the season as well as county showpiece final in Early August instead if September

There are just as many dead rubbers in the VB series. In recent years we've qualified early which has meant dead rubbers in a lot of our games and little interest for a lot of the public in the neutral games. If for eg. we're 3-0 love up, there's always the possiblility of cheering for a whitewash as opposed to sitting through some meaningless, endless matches as part of the tri-series.

The one we won was quite good but don't forget you need to fit in 3 Chappell-Hadlee ODI's as well as some against the touring team, could be 15 One Day games per season (Including inevitable T20's) and maybe a trip to New Zealand for ODI's as well.

This sucks, just bought a Commonwealth Bank jersey! Hope they are still sponsors for a while:p

I got the new one day strip last year for Christmas, and the lettering and graphics peel off in no time and right now they are nearly all gone. :thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd:

Which bank?
Don't be a ********.

Really? Bugger. Mine are sticking alright at the moment - have only just got it but worn it in some tough conditions lol. Like at Leavers and going fishing;). Do the letters and logos peel off when it goes through the wash or something?

Yeah ditto. Pretty piss poor for a 100 dollar shirt.

The only thing left on mine is the addidas logo:thumbsd: So disappointed.

My advice, hand wash only. Any sort of spin cycle and its bye bye logos

Well I guess they figure they're better off with a dead rubber match between Australia and anyone, than trying to get a crowd to watch say Sri Lanka v Bangladesh playing for the 'other finals spot'.

Tri series started to suffer when we started getting more of the minnows and gaps started opening between the top couple of nations and the rest. Remember 81 / 82 when it was us v West Indies v Pakistan. Top quality games between 3 hard at it nations and you would happily go to the 'neutral game'.

thats a bit harsh.

its the 29th season of the tri series and bangladesh or kenya haven't competed in it.

zimbabwe have competed in the tri series on 3 occasions and sri lanka competed in it 3 times as a minnow if you really wanted to clutch at straws.

It is a good move - too many dead rubbers in the series. They should have got to the finals sooner.
