who was the first australian test captain to have more letters in their (most commonly used) first name than surname

i.e. steve waugh counts as steve, not stephen
Hmm - top of my head - tough! Bloody hell, can't think of any! (not going to cheat and look at Cricinfo).

Umm - Michael Clarke? No there has to be one before him. Probably a one-off.

Got me stuffed..... Will think some more.

Name the last 10 players to keep wicket in Tests for Australia?
does that include guys like phil hughes who kept for only a small portion of the match?

assuming not, off the top of my head:

wade
haddin
manou
paine
gilchrist
healy
emery
...
that's all i got - pre healy is before me. as a guess:

phillips
dyer
marsh?

those three are probably wrong

edit: can't believe i missed zoehrer!

there would've been others in the 90s though wouldn't there? pretty sure langer, boon, maybe ponting kept at some stage? maybe i'm thinking ODIs?
Pretty sure Boon kept in an ODI, I remember AB keeping for at least part of one game when Healy (?) hurt himself. Did Ryan Campbell ever keep in a ODI?

Which current English Cricketer claims to be a relative of a former Australian Captain?
Don't know about that one but the Hon Peter Garrett claims kinship with Tom Garrett, who played in Australia's inaugural Test in 1876.

You'd better let us know the answer. We haven't heard from you all year.
Sorry - been time travelling.

Johnathon Trott claims to be descended from Harry and Albert Trott, who played in the 1890s.
And of course, Harry Trott had a great-grandson who played in the 1971 VFL GF - Stuart.

I don't know how to frame this as a question, but I think it's interesting that Australia has had many sets of brothers play for us, but, just as often as not, they did not play tests together. The Waughs, the Gregorys (some), Trotts, Chappells and the Bannermans played together, but the Benauds, Archers, Harveys, Trumbles, did not. The Pattinsons could be added to that list (unlikely they will ever play on the same side!), and I think most people think Mitch Marsh might get a game sometime, but is unlikely to play with his brother.

Yeah, Hughes was the curveball I was throwing in. You've all pretty much nailed them all ;)

How about "Yeah, Hughes was the googly I was bowling in. You've all pretty much nailed them all ;)"

This is a cricket site after all. While I'm on the subject, is anyone else annoyed when they hear commentators saying " --- needs to step up to the plate ..."?

And why is everybody a 'batter' now? Is 'batsman' now un-PC? If ever a lady plays for the Australian senior cricket team, I will use that new terminolgy!
