They want the public to connect with the tragedy somehow, sells more papers. How common around Melbourne has the catchcry been in the last few days, "Have they found that missing footballer yet?"... even my own parents have been responsible of asking this.

It really isn't looking good now for the hundreds of Australians still missing in the region. We can only hope there is a miracle story or two to come out of this tragedy.

Shut up, ok. You don't know what you are talking about. have you read all the replys, if not don't say any thing to you do.
To quote myself... This thread at times has made me laugh, and i have shaken my head at the insensitivity and name calling you have displayed. Unlike everyone else i can't even say i see what you have said that shows your heart being in the right place.

I am pretty sure i CLEARLY stated i had read the thread one would think this means the entire thread, perhaps before abusing me you should have read my response properly.

I would cut you slack on account of your age but all you have done is attack anyone who has a different opinion to yours. And no, until a mod bans me or requests i tone down what i say i will not shut up as you so politely requested me to.

I have shown you repect perhaps you could give me the same courtesy.

A bit of maturity is needed here by you and many others who continue to attack a 15 year old and those who have paid their respects to Troy and his family.

This is not the time for fighting. It is time to respect and accept ppl for who they are and for what they are worth.

Says you who has done nothing but abuse a 15 year old who has expressed his opinion.

Get a grip. How would you feel if the abuse was hurled at you?

This comment above by the 15 year old was made because she responded to a comment where he mentioned the B word and he reacted in an unnecessary manner. So to say Adelaide girl has been abusive isnt correct.

He was 14 when he had a crack a few days ago :D

besides... if a 14 year old talked to me like that on the street I'd give him a clip across the ears. Its the do-gooders like GoalBumhire who think 14 year olds have rights and should be treated and act like adults.

Why should Adelaide girl or anyone else for that matter have to lower there opinion because he is younger than them, if he is not mature enough to handle the conversation and gets out of his depth by resulting to childish insults then I would expect the abuse he has occurred has to be accepted.

If I were talking to a 15 year old, l would expect that person to respect me and respond to my questions with a level of maturity that the conversation related to. If the subject referred to anything that related to the intellect of a 15 year old I would have no trouble if some profanity was included in the conversation because that is what could be expected, but when you are talking about life and death and the death of other peoples loved ones then in any body’s world that would relate to an adult conversation. The 15 year old is out of his depth and should show a bit of respect to others.

I think they are meaning that being an elite AFL player ,he is a football star, which makes perfect sense to me. Thousands of people play football and attempt to make it to the highest level, he was one of the few who did make it and was thought of highly by those at Melbourne in terms of potential and ability. Is that the best you can do, complain about the use of the word star? Even if he doesn't meet your stringent criteria for the word, does it really matter that others have used this to describe him?

I have spent an hour reading thru the thread. The kid has called people f/wits, bitches etc... is asked to grow up, tells that person to shut up and somehow out of all that you say he is the one being abused?

Good point. It said "football star" not "AFL star".

Troy is obviously no star, just a bloke who played a few AFL games. Headlines sell papers, that's the sort of ********e they write.
Unfortunately, the fact is he is just another of 1500 or so Aussies missing presumed dead. No different than the rest, just a name.
For all those whiners out there who have been bitching for the past 2 days, get over it and grow up. Mourn, sleep, have a brew, smoke a cone, whatever it is you do and move on.
This topic has run its' course, time to close it.

I heard the figure is 107 Australians in grave danger. Meaning they were in the area and are confirmed missing. There is also 1000 others who were in the affected countries and are yet to make contact with Australia.

so we can assume it's somewhere between those numbers?

Yep, everyone else is accounted for. Of the 107, few will survive. The other 1000 could be anywhere. They may not have even been hit by the tsunami, no one knows.
