Troy Taylor back on track

cant imagine him playing chf, dont think he has the brain or character for it.

Strange call. Seems to have plenty of football nous from the limited airtime he's had so far.

As for character, harsh call given his age and life to date.

The way he floats across a pack reminds me of the great Royce (another bargain get).

Maybe we have a Black Hart on our hands...

...just checked out the RFC website, there is a photo of TT standing tall and proud...

...he's got a frame ready for filling out, and when it does...look out!......

...TT is going to be bigger than adam goodes...and if he is as talented as emma quayle suggests...then TT is going to terrorize backlines for years to come...:thumbsu:...

...i cant wait...got a feeling...same as bruce...that this kid is going to be SPECIAL...;)...

Has anyone on this forum been writing him off? I dont recall anyone saying that. Not me. Im just saying he wont be the superstar every ones making him out to be. So im just wondering if that’s the technical term for writing someone off. Also going on a bender and missing the start of pre-season doesn’t help with some posters attitudes, including mine.

Also it was mentioned earlier about his "Haters" again i cannot recall one person on this board who hates him.

ah you dared make a criticism for some thats you wanting to see him delisted.
some it seems just dont have the smarts to differentiate between the two and they certainly dont have the emotional capacity to cope with criticism of any kind toward our players.

personally im with you on this one id be happy if he becomes nothing more than a decent consistent tall hff type. dont know if he will ever have the physical attributes to become a well rounded chf.
i keep saying it but im hopeful of him becoming a jarrad grant type at age 20 grant showed a fair bit last yr.

while on wb i wish we had at least made a play for everitt. this 22 yr old will come back and bite them imo.
has a lot of what our tall backs dont.
pace smarts can run with ball in hand and an excellent kick. and is now just entering that truly competetive stage where his size and strength allows him to compete a bit better.glandular fever and foot injury has not helped his cause to date.

How on earth can you make that call on a kid who's played 4 games and is only about to start his 2nd season?

its my opinion, ive seen him play before he was drafted, seen him play for coburg and seen him play at afl level, and to me he just doesnt look like he has the qualities to play chf, not many players to do. it is one of the hardest positions to make your own.

dont get me wrong, in terms of talent, he is freakish, his ability to judge the ball in flight and natural spring and marking is very rare. in terms of character i dont mean the type of person he is, i mean when you play chf you need that work ethic, hunger and mental toughness, which i dont think taylor has. playing at chf you get alot of attention from oppisition defenders and i dont think taylor will be able to put up with that.

the third tall is what will suit him best if he ever makes it.

he will only get better with the more games he gets it, but playing chf might be a bridge too far.

Players like Troy Taylor are a huge gamble BUT if you get it right they are a massive gain, Teams passed on this kid because he had huge psycological problems dealing with where he was & the friends he hanged with.

In & out of juvinile detenion etc etc,But as emma quayle said possibly would be in the top 10 in talent of his draft.

The hardest part about these types of players is for them to adapt to melbourne & conform to the disciplines and demands of AFL football in 2011.

After the 2011 season is complete & hopefully with TT having 15-20 games under his belt &10 kgs more on that skinny little frame that walked into punt road last year.

He would of been at the club 2 years & I believe the worst would be over and he would of adapted to life as an AFL footballer living in melbourne.

If we can get this kid to 2012 with a full pre-season WATCH OUT

Didn't Emma Quale (SP?) say that Taylor was in the top10 for talent in that year? But slipped so far back because of his troubled history and court case?

There were rumours that Collingwood were going to draft him. I think all the press beforehand was that they would get him.

I don't think Emma Quayle having raps for anyone is a big deal though. Even the journalists just repeat what everyone else says.

And as for a position, I see him as a HFF. If he comes good he will be hard to match up on as he plays tall. Not many clubs have three tall key defenders that are good. If the opposition plonk their CHB on him, whoever we are playing at CHF will run amok. Leave a small on him and he'll mark everything that comes his way. Teams may well try to run their man off him (so we will have to see how he goes defensively), but leaving him unchecked could spell disaster if he turns out to be a good player.

It was reported that Collingwood talked him out of joining the Gold Coast and nominating for the draft but elsewhere i read it was his manager.

As for Emma Quayle?

She is one of the better sports journalists around. She researches her stuff and is quite knowledgeable when it comes draft time.

She also must be held in high regard amongst the clubs as she said she sat in on a Hawthorn meeting in which they discussed drafting Patto ( the year we drafted him).

One of the few commercial journalists i give any credence to what they write:thumbsu:

He knocked back a deal with the Suns.
Collingwood, Port, Fremantle and North all spoke to him.

She is also an over hyped talent spotter on Big Footy. What she is, is an excellent sports journo who excels at research as this post from her AGE 2009 draft blog shows.

How many times do you revise and obsess over your top 25s and mock drafts?

Hi Dave. About a million times, with the top 25. Too many!! The mock draft just means making thousands of phone calls, hopefully come Wednesday night I'll have it as close as possible but it's always hard.

That said, I wish my missus had her footy knowledge. I wonder if I can swap them over
