I do love the way some of the more left leaning people on here and in general believe that anybody that didn't vote Labor is an evil self serving moron. Could be part of the problem.....
Why?
Should they pretend they aren’t so they feel better about it?

Are you saying they vote liberal out of spite, because they are called spiteful?

It's a bit of a shame that Australian's don't care about the environment above self interest, brown people, fat wallets and sticking it to the greenies, but ah well.

Look forward to our daughter playing in dirt and me going full onions on belts explaining that once upon a time there used to be water here.
Bahaha oh dear... Relax it's not that bad...

Speaking generally, those that constantly talk down the intelligence of the opposition and overestimate their own perceived advantage need to learn to reign it in. Those that have made less noise are having the last laugh and that draws parallels with American politics.

The rural areas of Australia vote most strongly for conservative representatives though. Working class suburbs close to the city are overwhelmingly left wing.

The messaging to these rural areas is clearly nowhere good enough though.

Because the Nationals. That's why rural areas appear conservative.

Our electorate finally moved them on most recent state election. That was pleasing.

12-18months and beyond is my hunch. Libs won't stop it, or even curtail it, but the "Libs manage money, ALP spends it" idea is almost permanently entrenched in the Australian psyche.

They aren't causing it, we are. All of us.

Our expectation on lifestyle standards. Our demands for ever cheaper things. Our culture of instant gratification, and an obsession with being seen to do the right thing instead of actually doing the right thing. These are causes.

....

This is true, but what politician or party has the balls to call it? And who here will honestly listen to it and adapt?

Easier to listen to this guys selling snake oil futures.

Nationals only exist politically on the eastern seaboard.

Kindly describe the ways in which voting for the Coalition is not the act of a self serving moron.

Oh yes, there’s absolutely zero Dunning-Krueger effect going on with Trump and his supporters. What an extraordinary claim.

It's literally happening right now and the people who engineered it have been given another go to finish the job.

The Murray in this part of the country is dead. Been killed. Will never flow again like it has in the decades gone by. The lakes are dead. The animals are dead and the ones left are never coming back.

I'm not sure how you can tell me otherwise.

I am not talking down anybody's intelligence. I'm talking up their self serving nature.

Ministers in this government made zero time to speak to aboriginal elders when they flew in to look at the river.

If that isn't disregard for a people's culture, what is?

You know who did make time? Greens and Independents.

OK, will put it more simply. The Nationals only exist politically in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

Voted in by farmers who cry poor while raping the nation's waterways.

I'm not going to say anything, just sitting back smiling knowing that shorten, wong and plibasek have had an awful weekend, the people have spoken!

Didn't have you or that particular point in mind at all. I'm very concerned about environmental issues in this country.

I'm talking about people that talk down others who's views they disagree with, get caught up in opinion polls and then have a meltdown when democracy doesn't go the way they want it to.

About politics then I say stop it all of you. Because we are all starting to hate one another more as we get to know one another.

The only thing i need to know about you people is that you love Port Adelaide. Don't make me despise you because of who you really are.

You people are probably really shit human beings (some of you that is more obvious than others) but we do not need to burst the bubble.

Focus! The real enemy here is the Crows and the snafl. DO NOT LOSE FOCUS YOU MORONS.

Nah.

People who'll say they'll vote against doing the right thing because they don't like some of people, will vote against the right thing if it is more personal. If you're describing yourself as a `coulda voted left but didn't because i don't like some of the people', you're a precious snowflake that needs to get over it ;)

`The right thing' in this case is often going to involve personal cost for a greater good. If someone being perceived as a bit superior is enough to turn them off, then policy that goes far enough to have an actual personal cost has no hope of gaining that person's support.

I second this!

I'm just questioning those who think they are doing their bit to stamp out racism while endorsing a ruling party that continues to sweep a lot of issues under the carpet, or at least more than the other guys and girls. To them I ask, are you really doing everything you can? Everything in your power? Cause t doesn't seem like it to me.
