Tyson Goldsack has played his role in our team so well that i just can't believe we will have to drop him. Has come in and performed his role perfectly and I think he deserves some kudos.

Today he had:

7d, 5m, 7t, 6 1%'s and 100% DE......

He's had that kind of consistency since he was called into the side in the absense of Maxwell and deserves every accolade I can muster..

Cheers to THE SACK!

Has played as well as Maxwell since he came in, plays better one on one, zones off almost as well and disposal is very similar.
Question? if Maxy were not captain what would the call be? i like Maxwell and love his endevour but as far as preventing goals Goldsack has bettered him im sorry to say and if i were serious about a flag and selecting players to do that Goldy would not get dropped.

Just watched the replay...Goldy was awesome as you say.

Given that it's pretty much a given ( ?grammar ) that Maxy will come back, maybe Tooves could be the one under a tiny bit of pressure?

They are both very athletic but think Goldy is more the natural footballer of the two?

Unfortunately that's probably the case. To be honest the captaincy shouldn't give you a position if it's not warranted otherwise.

Can definitely see a Pendlebury style player becoming the next captain.

What utter shite. 9 disposals and 3 marks a game compared to Maxwell's 16 and 6, has played on absolute nobodies in each game and manages to garner rave reviews simply by being a great-looking athlete and a good tackler and otherwise staying out of the play.

Toovey was significantly better than Goldsack today (and has been all season), and Maxwell is significantly better than both.

I don't agree with those that believe Goldsack will be dropped to make way for Maxwell. Maxwell might be ready to come in, but there is no way it'll be at the expense of Goldsack.

There may have been pressure on Tooves due to Goldsacks form, but I thought Tooves was very good against the Sainters - so it will be Goldy to go our for Maxy I think.

Which seems almost criminal

With Shaw starting up the ground yesterday maybe the sack can stay in defence , shaw stay on the ball or at least stay further up the ground and maxwell play the rebounding defender role.

It's a great problem to have with too many players in form.

Goldsack does not get enough possessions to hold his spot in the team.

How do you get away with saying that, when others get carded for far less?

As to the issue, I agree with you that Toovey and Maxwell are far better as defenders, but I think Goldsack could become the swingman we sometimes need; or he could be used as a tall running out side mid.
He has good skills and goes hard at the footy, I think he is too good to be left out of the best 22.

I would argue that Medhurst, Dick, Maxwell, Cloke, N.Brown, Anthony and a couple of others are probably too good to be playing VFL.Not that Cloke or Maxwell will, but they weren't in the 22 yesterday so I'm including them in the list.

Problem is, as the very least - Maxwell and Cloke will come back in, and more than likely so will Brad Dick. Which means there are 3 blokes from the 22 yesterday who will need to go out, and good luck picking which ones!

Nice problem to have imo.

Maybe Heater being moved into the midfield for some time yesterday is a long-term plan... Meaning a HFFer or mid will be dropped for Maxwell (he will replace Heater's backline role). Or not. Won't know until Maxwell comes back.

Goldsack is a better defender then Maxwell.

Maxwell is a better loose man then Goldsack when not made accountable.

Maxwell was AA last year, and clearly offers more leadership irregardless of being captain. Although you do make a good point irregardless does he come straight back in? It is no slight on Maxwell this question more of examply of how good our depth is.

Not to mention is a shit load better in his rebound and is a leader.

Maxwells ability to play third man up is also being undervalued for it's defensive importance.

If Goldsack could improve his ability to win the ball it would be a more interesting debate.

Maxwell is miles in front of Goldsack (defensively and offensively), it'll be a straight swap when he is ready to go, it's a good sign for our depth though.

People are overrating his game yesterday as well, he always gets turned inside out by smaller forwards, he was a bit fortunate Schneider didn't kick straight yesterday.

His disposal and tackling were both good though, he needs to add another string to his bow IMO or he'll be forever resigned to being a depth player.

Goldsack disposes of it better then Maxwell imo, Maxwell has a tendency to bomb it long and not too our forwards advantage.

Maxwell also struggles 1on1 even on lesser players.

Maxwells form was worse then Goldsacks before injury hence he shouldn't be an auto inclusion.

No he is not, he is worse defensively.

As for drive off HB Reid, Obrien, Shaw, Johnson and even Toovey provide run and drive out of defence.

Doesn't matter when his opponent doesn't kick goals.

Exactly, if you went by that mantra then Presti would never have got a game let alone 200.

Tbh, unless someone has an absolute howler in terms of errors of both skill and decision making then we don't really have any idea whether a bloke is playing well or not. To make that judgement you need to know what role he has been instructed to play so that you can determine whether he has done it or not.
