I think the Lyons thread should tell you about how long this thread will get dragged out for88 pages dedicated to a player who was shown the door after several high-profile indiscretions.

I thought it was the correct decision at the time, clearly it wasn't. Not sure why people prefer mental gymnastics to just admitting an error.
That means Geelong is just reaping the benefits of having a better support system for their players. Maybe there is a lesson here. Its a bit simplified IMO.
The kid clearly had issues. I think its no coincidence he didn't have issues when he lived with Eddie in Adelaide. Eddie leaves and he has 3 incidents in a short amount of time. Then moves back in with Eddie 6 months later, joins Geelong and turns it around again.

Bur Stengle would have stunk the whole time right? So glad our team turned around and became a juggernaut after our pathetic first 10 weeks so that Fogarty could begin to thrive. The transition from our 21 point loss to St.Kilda to our 42 point flogging at the hands of Geelong was staggering.

Brought in Nicks in 2020... how did Stengle fare in that environment?Well s**t. Did you take a vacation the last 5 years?!?!?!? Ya think we had a culture in early March of 2021 that was able to nurture and get the best out of Stengle?
We haven't been a good and supportive environment at all. Thats why we brought in Nicks. Hopefully its changed now as evidenced by both Dawson/Rankine nominating us and us not losing anyone (so far) in 2021/2022.
Exactly, a lightning in the bottle momentOh absolutely. Nobody is debating that.
Off the field it makes complete sense that a player on his 3rd club (and likely final chance) joining a team full of married 40 year olds chasing a flag whilst moving in with his mentor that kept him on the straight and narrow whilst in Adelaide has lead to him getting it all together.
Combine that with joining the 2nd highest scoring team of 2021, that had the most Inside 50's of 2022 alongside the All Australian CHF, All Australian FF it was a perfect storm.
Wait, what. You’re claiming Betts and Rankine, two established stars? And Stengle had already highlighted some real talent while at Richmond.Well done to Hamish and the talent identification team - damn shame we didn’t get the benefits on this occasion but ultimately individuals need to be accountable for their own behaviour.
As a club we are CLEARLY the best at identifying and recruiting/trading for elite small forwards. In Hamishs reign Betts, Cameron, Stenge and now Rankine. Blows everyone else out the park

The reason these threads (and the Lyons one) get bumped constantly is because it shows we wouldn't spot a good player even if it slapped us in the face.
And don't (or didn't hopefully, past tense) have the culture in place to positively influence players who fall off the track.
How can a team bereft of talent let a talented player go? We felt it was no biggie. In our judgement his ability didn't warrant the headaches. That judgement isn't ancient history either, it's last year.

Talk about clutching straws.
And lets not go over the top here early indicators showed that he AFL level talent, but he was also a massive massive risk off the field.
No, but this is the thing I find stunning about all this. That people actually invest time saying Well done club, you got it right.Do you think Marlion Pickett would have had the success he had if he went to St.Kilda instead of Richmond?
No, but this is the thing I find stunning about all this. That people actually invest time saying Well done club, you got it right.
And at the same time say
What do you expect? We're a bad club with a bad culture like St Kilda, that's why Stengle wouldn't succeed here
It's like you've accepted We're a poor club and will continually make terrible decisions, this is just another one in a long line, so why would people be angry about losing an AA player for nothing
Ah man. I liked Stengle.
Only 10 of his 46 goals against top 8 sides.
Cats have only had 8 games against Top 8 sides, he went goal less in three games, noting in those games he had 14 and 12 disposals and the Cats won both. The other game was the Buddy 1000th goal game.Only 10 of his 46 goals against top 8 sides.

well said and yes I assume the other poster was joking with that commentCan we pump the brakes a little here.
He played 2 games in 2 years for 2 goals at Richmond. He was also traded for pick 68.
Fixed that for you..
