If anyone saw the Glenroy vs hillside game last week it was an absolute cracker

I didn't see the game but was surprised by the result considering Hillside beat them pretty convincingly both times during home & away. Great to see Hillside resist the temptation to play Sinclair. Probably a fair decision considering he didn't play much u/18 footy and it would mean another player missed out. I do however agree with the ruling that qualifies them as its still junior footy..

He tried to play reserves last week Sinclair but was ruled ineligible by the league 30 minutes before the game. Interesting if he lines up grand final day in the under 18's

Under 18.5 Hadfield v Hillside.

Fight just on the 1/2 time siren seen 2 Hadfield players reported and a few more potentially will be looked at by the league after viewing the vision being sent into the league.

Reports post game the Hadfield coach changed into a water person top during second half during game and running around the ground to give instructions. Was pulled up and went back to coaching. Can’t believe a coach would be so insecure to act that way. League will get vision I heard so be interesting to see the outcome as a coach cannot leave the designated coaching area.

Great to see an EDFL employee actually have the courage looking into it and going into the ground at 1/2 time and speaking to Hadfield officials/players as well as post game as that type of behaviour could have ended in ugly scenes.

Back in the day we seen tough players and fights but some players are just cowardly and deserve what they get from the league tribunal. Tough is going face to face not cheap shots from behind or when players are on the ground.

It was over near the hillside bench so no supporters got involved thankfully and Hillside had a huge contingent of supporters hence Hadfield supporters stayed behind the fence as the siren sounded.

100% correct..
2 players reported or at least blue carded.
Assistant coach was told by EDFL official to stop running water at start of 3rd.
Wasn’t on team sheet and was AC, Took off bib Straight away and returned to coaching on sidelines.
Also true that Official intervened swiftly and spoke to Hadfield after the game about their behaviour… humble in victory etc etc I believe.

Either way no side will get within 5 goals of Moonee Valley in the final but be interesting to see what the league do with this as could be trouble for Hadfield. If any consequences then it can be put on the AC for inappropriate behaviour as rules as rules and not sure why clubs act this way. It’s always the same clubs trying to breach rules..

Umpires mentioned to MDO about a group of supporters from Hadfield and both MDO’s had to venture into the crowd. Just total stupidity again but not sure that’s the fault of the club as they did what they can to speak to the individuals.

Bit of mayo. No official changed tops and they weren’t spoken to by an EDFL official.

Disappointingly from my POV as a Haddy supporter the boys got sucked in and couldn’t control themselves.

Let’s keep this forum convo on the wonderful senior GF today at Highgate and not kids being silly. What a game of footy and congrats to Rupo!

Probably a discussion for the div1 thread given that's where this game was, not in Div 2....

Yes a coach definitely changed tops and expect him to probably be given a decent suspension and possibility of not being able to hold an official position again.
Haddy started the fight so not sure how they got sucked in. Once again hitting a player on the ground for no reason in a weak act inciting the incident.

Normally I respect your opinion Turbo but to say 'The same clubs'??? Hadfield have improved their behaviour on and off the field immensely over the past few years.

Not going to argue on the specifics of officials when it’s fairly irrelevant in the scheme of things.

Whether they started or not, I agree it’s not good enough. They should be old enough to control themselves and be smart enough to realise they have a GF to play the next week and fighting puts them at risk of being suspended.

Cheers mate. Yes they have done some great work at that club to change things around especially at the senior level but things like this continue to occur. It was only a few years back they had a game called off for a fight vs Taylor’s Lakes where spectators felt the need to jump the fence.. This final was extremely close to being called off purely on the back of cowardly hero mentality..

Umpires and league officials shouldn’t have to intervene and we can all see a situation in 2-3 years time where you will only have umpires at premier level on Saturday and div1 & 2 juniors on a Sunday as the numbers are declining rapidly.

Yes agree. 2 carded including the captain which shows poor leadership.
League will review vision so expect another couple to potentially get cited so that might be 4 players missing a GF.

From my viewpoint I thought the umpire should have paid a free kick and possibly a 50 to the hillside player who was punched whilst on the ground for no reason other than a cowardly act by the Hadfield player whilst player was lying on his back after a tackle “ball up” decision. Then another Haddy player thought he might do the same thing to the player on the ground. Reports of knees being dropped used also . Not paying a free/50 resulted in HS players remonstrating and then all hell broke loose.
Not a great look and went towards the fence so could have got very ugly.

I’m all for playing hard and the odd confrontation but cowardly acts in football still continue. Very rarely see these player put head over the ball though or show courage on the ground.

So you were there Turbo. I think not as your accusations are again wrong. I was there and standing at the Hadfield Bench. Yes there was fight at half time between both sides' players right on the Hillside bench. The Hillside supporters were being very racist against Hadfield players which exacerbated the fight. Only 1 Hadfield player was given a yellow card not a blue as you state. Hadfield supporters were never spoken to by either the League official or the MDO. And as for the coach pulling on a water vest and running around the ground is a blatant out and out lie. Keep up your accusations and you could find a defamation case on your hands.

Slow done buddy 😂
No doubt Turbo’s version is one eyed but he definitely would have been there!

Umm your response is complete rubbish. Defamation case can only be if accusations are incorrect buddy.

Are you saying no EDFL league official spoke to the Hadfield coaching team at 1/2 time and was present out on the ground straight after the fight? 💯 percent the league offical spoke with Hadfield players post game as it was clear to everyone at the game.
This offical showed courage and without his presence who knows what could have occurred.

Hadfield looked done but fought back to have a gutsy win but best to be humble in victory and not try and incite things post game.

Actually I think you weren’t there by the sounds of things..
I can even tell you which no player was carded but I won’t. The umpire went straight over and goes “your off, yeah you and pulls the card”

To say Hillside supporters were saying racist remarks is actually defamatory if you want to raise that word. They ALL stayed behind the fence even after the siren. And there were close to probably 200 HS supporters in that area.
Maybe you should acknowledge that behaviour in fact..

Turbo again spreading rubbish. Not going to mention how the official pulled up on your supporters to stop abusing the Hadfield players?? Didn’t think so. The haddy boys should know better then to give in to crowd abuse but take you one eyed glasses off everyone in this forum knows they can’t take any info from you cause is usually incorrect

Sorry mate, best you learn the defamation law before threatening a case. Your post was closer to breaching the law than Turbos. Footy is an emotional game mate, we all get it, but just relax bit bit for your own sake.

Hey steveSniff, just seen the incident on the vision (as on the day it all happened quick) and you can clearly see which team started it after the siren goes. No need at all for that behaviour as the game was played in great spirits.
Actually good to see some of the Haddy boys pulling out players and doing the right things.

However after watching it a few times that game was probably close to being called off after that melee, whereas Hillside would have got the win. No one got hurt which was a good thing and luckily all supporters ( in particular hillside supporters who were in that area) stayed off the ground and didn’t get involved..I’m sure you will agree on that…Credit to them.

And yes a goal in the last quarter to HS was dubious as everyone close reckons it was a point.🙈

Hard to disagree with supporters staying off the field.. we wouldn’t want another St Albans game.. 😅

always good to see teammates pull each other out of the scuffles, in previous years this wouldn’t of happened at haddy and would of escalated I’m sure. Probably always going to be the select few that will retaliate unfortunately.

Umm you do have a short memory mate as that was senior footy and not great, but having adults jump fence to assault kids as young as 16-17 is disgusting and gutless..Seeing that made me so angry..But hey will have all moved on.

You need to watch the vision mate as you can clearly hear the siren sound and the 2 players are on the ground about to get up together then a Haddy player ( and that’s being polite to him) runs in from 10mts away to hit HS player who was on the ground. Absolute low cowardly act and then all hell broke loose. All because of one grub act to a player already on the ground.

*Nothing at all to do with a select few retaliating. Poor comeback from you mate!

That game would have been very close to being called off due to the act of 1 individual trying to act tough..And in that case HS would have got through to the GF on the back of 1 players stupidity. (I know the players no but not going to put it up)

Anyway it was a very gutsy win from Haddy ( considering the 2 goals HS got in the last that appeared to possibly be points)
Best of luck to both sides in the GF.
