I would actually be satiated at least in the short term were we to score a big name. Something new and shiny to distract me from the glaring ineptitude

It's not just the fans that a big signing lifts, the players too. The Ozil effect had a massive impact on Giroud and Ramsey in the first few months after he signed.

This is very true and something I'm not sure Wenger understands. Players want to play with the best players. Vibrancy effects performance. Plus it makes players pull their finger out when they actually have to fight for a spot.

The Reddit Gunners page have been talking about the "madness" for a month now, the mooted player that we probably don't need but is an extravagance. Maybe there actually is a chance at a new winger as well. Could we even handle that after the last month of bullshit?

Those French football people (I don't know how reliable) say we've been trying to get Griezmann all window but the board won't let us spend the apparent 100m to get him.

Yeah, Arsene was batting his eyelids at Griezmann all through the Euros too.

Yep they said after seeing him with Giroud he decided he wanted him. I'd assume this is what "madness" is. I don't see it eventuating though. :(

If Wenger signed Griezmann he would be seriously accountable. Couldn't cry poor or lament squad deficiencies that he paradoxically suggests are out of his control

I'm sure it was only ever a chance if Costa went to AM and Lukaku to Chelsea and that is contingent on Griezmann ever wanting to jump over.

Yep! Seems that way.

Arsenal were led to believe that an agreement for Griezmann would be possible if Diego Costa returned to Atletico Madrid this summer, which in turn would have seen the striker replaced by Romelu Lukaku at Stamford Bridge.

It now appears that all three players will be staying where they are, meaning Wenger will miss out on the kind of “exceptional” talent he believes can help inspire Arsenal to their first Premier League title since 2004.

PEREZ'S FOUR-YEAR DEAL

Lucas Perez will sign a four-year deal with Arsenal today, reports Marca in Spain.

Sky sources understand Arsenal have triggered the Deportivo striker's £17m buyout clause.

Marca claim he will have his medical later today.

Supposedly Medical today, so should hopefully be confirmed by this afternoon.

£35m for a centre half, amazing what's happened to the market over the last 12-18 months.

That would make him our second most expensive player ever. Or equal with Xhaka as reports vary whether he was £30m or £35m.

Sanchez I believe was just on £30m.

So assuming Xhaka was £35m for a moment, if you add Holding (£2m), Asano (£3m), Mustafi (£35m) and Perez (£17m) that's approx £92m spent this window.

Wow. Now if only we can sell Walcott to get that all important net spend down....

Interesting to read he's only played one full season (last season) as an out-and-out striker. His goals + assists return was quite good.

Overall, his versatility - being able to play either alone or off Giroud - will be the biggest asset to us.

Well we have options at least. Has runs on the board as an out and out striker, and can play there. Also if needed can slot him onto the wing with Alexis on the other and Giroud in the middle with Ozil controlling the front 3, he can do that too.

Watford 0 Arsenal 2

Ahh, your prediction posts have been missed windy.

1-1 for mine - easy for people to get caught up in the transfer hype. Can't forget that Holding is still a young and raw CB, and Giroud and Ozil will still be starting on the bench (meaning Walcott likely gets a start...again).
