More news from that blog:

"It is understood that Boca and Arsenal have agree a fee for Palacio but the player himself is yet to agree personal terms. Arsenal have sent representatives to the Copa América.

A few stumblingly blocks maybe be that Huracán would want a 15% share of any sell on fee...............More to come"

That was why their negotiations with Barcelona took so long.

Boca want to get as much as they can get which means the price is inevitably going to go up. I believe Huracan and Banfield are entitled to 15% each, so that's around £2.25m assuming it's £15m, leaving Boca with £10.5m. That's not a terrible lot for one of their best players.

I also think the money from the Reyes sale will go straight to Boca, plus whatever extra amount is needed to complete the deal. Almost all of our transfers have been like this summer, when you think about it:

Muamba £2m in - Fabianski £2m out
Henry £16.5m in - Eduardo £8m and Sagna £7.5m, combined £15.5m out
Reyes £10m in - Palacio £15m out
Nordveit £2m out
Total £30.5m in - £34.5m out

Total Arsenal spending, on the basis of assuming of course so this isn't fact, is just £4m.

You can be rest assured - it is all complete bollocks re Palacio. The sun got it off a blog and were saying reports in Argentina are sggesting Palacio will join Arsenal. Then Argentine papers quoted the sun - whole lot of crap. !!

I am glad we are not spendning the money touted on this bloke.

I'm not sure about this one.

There seems to be enough smoke coming out of Argentina to suggest there might be fire, and as DB points out, "The Sun" have been pretty good with our transfers this summer.

Given that, there's been 24 hours since they "broke" the story, and there's been no follow up by any of the other media outlets, other than to repeat what's already been suggested.

Thierry Henry To Divorce A new angle has appeared on Thierry Henry's departure from Arsenal to join Barcelona last month with the revelation that he and his English wife of four years, Claire, a model also known by her professional name of Nicole Merry, are to divorce.

The Sun newspaper's front page headline quites Henry as telling friends: "I had to get away from everything English... including my wife."
The paper says Henry, 29, walked out on his Croydon-born wife Claire, 27, just days after joining Barcelona. The couple have a two-year-old daughter, Téa.
On its inside pages, with the banner headline: BARCA LONER," The Sun says Henry has been en joying a bachelor lifestyle and visiting casinos since the "bitter" break-up.
Henry issued a statement through his lawyers saying: "Thierry is extremely saddened by the breakdown of his marriage.
"He is anxious to move on with his life and maintain the best possible relationship he can with Claire for the benefit of their daughter Téa, whom he loves very much."
The statement added that Henry's move to Barcelona was "entirely for footballing reasons."
But he has reportedly told friends: "I didn't really want to leave Arsenal - they're my favourite club and I loved playing for them.
"But lots of things have changed recently, and I had to get away from everything English, including my wife unfortunately.
"It's a very sad time for all of us, but you've got to know when to move on."
The couple married in July 2003.

He would've signed a pre-nup, they all do.
Pre-nups aren't legally binding in Britain.

In fact Britain is the divorce capital of the world.....for women.

The other day a millionaire who divorced his wife in 1979 had to pay her £200,000 cos she'd spent all of her settlement living beyond her means in Sydney, the judge ackowledged that the guy wasn't liable to pay her anything but still decreed that he shoulod give her the money anyway.

Wouldn't surprise me is she gets over half of his wealth.

He could get Albanian gangsters to top her for about £3,000.

It's funny but from the reports on this, Henry comes out of it as a real arrogant old school 'men wear the trousers' type.

I've got a heap of French mates & the consensus is that he's totally up himself, like Cantona he's prefered in Britain to his homeland.

I'm fine with Freddie staying though the general thought is that he cannot contribute anymore because of his age.

Greatly respect his loyalty though especially when his manager claimed that Freddie would decline any move to another English club because of the great respect he has for Arsenal fans. :thumbsu:

I wish Henry showed the same loyalty. If he loved us, he should have stayed.

with all respect to freddie and the service he has brought to this club, but we should have traded him and got the 5m plus bojinov that was apparently offered. Doubt he will hold his place in the team for much of next season.

Fabregas - I would like to captain Arsenal

Our 'One Year On' series continues with an exclusive interview with Cesc Fabregas. The Spanish midfielder had an outstanding campaign last term and was the runaway winner in our official Player of the Season poll.
He gave told Arsenal.com his opinions on Thierry Henry’s departure, Arsène Wenger’s future and his desire to be team captain in the years to come.

It has been a year since Arsenal played their first game at Emirates. Do you think the club have progressed since then?

Yes. It was a difficult season last time. It is a bit different to play at Highbury against playing at Emirates. It was a big move and very important for the club. But now we are all used to it. We are playing the same football we have for the four years I have been here. So we have no excuses.

How bright is the future for Arsenal in your opinion?

The future is looking good. We have very good young players and most of them are teenagers. We are all ready to fight for the League, the Champions League, the FA Cup, the Carling Cup, for everything. We must fight for everything that is in front of us. We must prove we are not just young but that we are winners.

We know we have a lot to learn but also we have a lot of experience. There is no doubt that there is quality and if we all give 100 per cent and injuries respect us, I am sure we will have a good season.

Do you really think you can challenge for the title next season?

Definitely. We are Arsenal. We are one of the most important teams in Europe. Definitely we have to be fighting for the title because it would not be Arsenal if we are not doing this.

You are still only 20 but how much responsibility do you want to shoulder in this side?

Everything I can. We are not talking about one or two players being important here. Collectively this side is very good. That is what we have to keep showing to ourselves, that we are good enough to fight for everything.

Do you want to be captain in the future?

Of course. Everybody wants this kind of responsibility and 100 per cent me as well. It something that I have liked ever since I have been young and it would be no problem for me to be captain of this club.

Can you cope with the loss of Thierry Henry?

Definitely. Thierry has been really, really important to this club over the past eight years. We have scored a lot of goals because of him but now he is gone and we have to move on. We wish him all the best at Barcelona.
But we have a great set of world class players. We should not have a problem if we are all going to same way 100 per cent. But of course we know that Thierry will be a big miss.

How confident are you Arsène Wenger will stay beyond the end of the season?

We all hope he is going to stay because I don’t think this club would have the same philosophy of playing football [without him]. And of course it would be a big miss for the club. He has brought most of us here and given us the opportunity. But we don’t have to worry about that. It is his future and he can decide for himself. But we all believe he is going to stay for a lot of years.

Wenger - Why I signed Eduardo and Sagna

By Richard Clarke

Arsène Wenger has explained his transfer policy so far this summer.

To date, the Arsenal manager has made three signings — striker Eduardo, defender Bacary Sagna and goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski. The Polish stopper, who made his debut at Barnet on Saturday, is a direct replacement for the departing Mart Poom.

But after the game, Wenger was asked whether Eduardo and Sagna were the two ‘super, super’ summer signings he had suggested that he would make towards the end of last term. Wenger argues that the situation had changed since then.

“Yes, I said at the end of the season I would not necessarily buy unless I found a super player,” he said. “But at that time, in my mind, Thierry was staying. Then the Thierry situation was raised when I had him on the phone in the holidays.

“I could not go into the new season without a striker. When he was staying I was buying one super class player. The problem became different when Thierry left. Then I had to buy a striker.

“Also I came to the idea to buy a full back who can play right or left because we will lose Emmanuel Eboue and Kolo Toure during the African Nations Cup, as well as Emmanuel Adebayor.”
