Yes hats off to Giroud.

You'd think Madrid would want to sign someone of the calibre of Suarez if they're going to sell Benzema, having already sold Higuain. The sale of Ozil has somewhat overshadowed the arrival of Bale for their fans.

We'd probably need to stump up £35m for Benzema.

The fail and the mirror aren't the most reliable sources, but gives at least a bit more context to what has been reported in the last few days re: January window.

Arsene Wenger appears to have acquired a taste for German talent following his capture of Mesut Ozil.

Widespread reports in the British press, including in the Daily Mail and Daily Mirror, claim Arsenal have begun to pinpoint their transfer targets for January -- and they're all international team-mates of big-name signing Ozil.

Lars Bender -- a long-time target of Wenger's -- along with Borussia Dortmund duo Marco Reus and Ilkay Gundogan are being pursued by the Gunners, and could join Ozil and compatriots Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker at the Emirates later this season.

Wenger is also said to be tracking the progress of Dortmund's Poland right back Lukasz Piszczek as a potential replacement for Bacary Sagna, who may depart the club at the end of his contract next summer. Arsenal also showed interest in Schalke's wonderkid Julian Draxler during the past transfer window, but Wenger has now set his sights elsewhere.

Gnabry and Zelalem are also German I believe? So already a few in our squad.

Ps, no league games this weekend has been a bore.

Makes sense. Sagna appears to have had a productive game numbers-wise.

Really thought he was going to be sold this summer.

In other news, John Cross wrote today about another 'mega' signing in January, possibly another move for Suarez.

Marco Reus and Ilkay Gundogan will probably stay at BvB

It would be hard to see them selling Reus, Gundogan, Gotez and Lewandowski within two seasons.

Lars Bender we've bid for so wouldn't be surprised. Draxler has probably been priced out of what Arsene would spend for a 19 year old.

With the purchase of Ozil, I can't see us making a move for Draxler. And with Flamini slotting back in well, with Arteta to return, Wenger would likely be content enough with our CM options given Bender would cost £25m+.

A week later and I still can't believe we signed Ozil.

In need of a CB, a proper world class GK and a Striker, though. Depth is key.

Goal Keeper isn't happening unless we ditch one of the three we have now in January. Or this time next year. Stop hoping for it, you'll just make yourself ill.

Striker seems like a possible January purchase. Depends how Podolski is going by then, if he's still scratchy I suspect the boss will buy one. Have to face facts that Bendtner will not leave Arsenal until his contract runs out, only in it for the money, and nobody is going to give him more than he'll get wasting his career in our stands another season.

Any CB we get will be a 20 year old or a 30 year old, purely for depth (and development if the young one). We've already got 3 starting central defenders as far as they're concerned, we're not going to be buying anything but a squad player - unless one of them leaves.

RE: a striker

Just noticed Joel Campbell's goal for Costa Rica against the U.S.A.

Was finally granted a work permit this season (sent out on loan to Greece). Had a successful loan last season for Betis in Spain, started 27 odd games.

Found this compilation of his game against Barcelona last year

Looks like a bigger version of Ox. He's still raw at the age of 21 but surely given our lack of options in the winger position he could be useful off the bench. Not afraid to run at players and can shield the ball well.

Sure he was granted an English work permit? I thought that had failed again, hence another loan spell.

So Ozil and Mertersacker both scored for Germany overnight, it looks like Rosicky was subbed off in the first half, anyone know what happened there?
Also read this morning that Sanogo has picked up an injury, so with Bendtner apparently a few weeks away from match fitness as it would seem he didn't bother training over the preseason, if Giroud picks up an injury we will be starting Akpom as our striker.

I may be stating the obvious here, but surely we could have done more to get a striking depth in the window. The story with Ba was that we were going to get him but Jose didn't want to loan him to us when he saw we had Ozil. Surely we could have secured Ba before the final 2 hours of the window?

Yeah we left our move for a striker too late unfortunately. We still have Park though!

Appears to be a thigh strain for Rosicky. Damn.

Thankfully we have a bloke by the name of Ozil to slot into CAM. But Rosicky's injury usually aren't just a couple of days or a week or two.

I'd be happier if Giroud, Ozil and co didn't play full games for their countries then have to make a trip to Sunderland.

I know stats aren't everything, but geez those numbers for Ozil are ridiculous.

Is is Saturday night yet? Can't wait to see this bloke get amongst it. Even if we grossly overpaid for an overrated footballer like him.

Apparently Arsenal are keen on signing this striker called Ciprian Marica. He is a free agent so I think we can sign him? Don't know anything about him but adds depth to the squad which we lack.

His agent has been trying to whore him out to us for weeks. Released by Schalke despite being a "great striker" according to his agent. West Ham are reportedly keen.
