Higuain is old and not worth the fee Napoli would demand.

Aubameyang does not want to leave Dortmund for Arsenal.

Entertaining the thought of Ibrahimovic is ridiculous to even start with.

Can't see Benzema wanting to leave Madrid, for us.

Fact is we do not have the pulling power like the other major players do. People need to be realistic.

I think Lukaku is a viable option, but he may not want to join us, but of the names mentioned, he would be most likely after Berahino IMO. Embolo also a good shout (obviously not in the same league as these players).

If Madrid pawn off Benzema it'll be to PSG, they offer the same easy breezy league play, have all the money in the world to pay a stupid wage and an equally stupid fee for him, and coincidentally have at least one, perhaps two, spots opening up with Ibrahimovic gone and Cavani wavering.

I agree, but there's still a few talented strikers that are realistic targets. We have a group of 3 strikers - Giroud, Welbeck and Walcott (supposedly). Griezmann, Morata, Icardi, Higuain, Lukaku are all somewhat realistic (Griezmann is the only one you could argue against there) and clearly better than anything we have. Lacazette or Sturridge would improve us, while players worth a speculative signing include Batshuayi, Embolo and Correa. If the club higher-ups consider these players as unrealistic then they need to seriously consider why and then get their shit together or quit their respective positions.

There is seriously enough gettable talent out there that either improves us immediately, or within the next 12-18 months. We have to actually make things happen instead of taking the Wenger "Oh well player X is too expensive, woe is me, Walcott and Giroud are good enough, we have the quality" bullshit approach that is evidently getting us nowhere special.

Higuain turned 28 in December. Perfect age and perfect player for us. The ideal candidate of all realistic targets IMO.

Yep. But if he goes to Madrid then Benzema leaves. Maybe PSG are the frontrunners, but we'd be silly not to try.

Tend to agree. Would be excellent for a year or two but just not the right decision. Wages far too high also.

Ibra's wages aside, he would be fantastic. Proven goal scorer but more importantly, a proven winner. Which is what Arsenal needs.

Ibra wouldn't fit in with our culture that I agree with, he does not strive for 4th place Zlatan.

Unless Benzema wants out of Madrid and Madrid are willing to sell him then we will not end up with a world class striker. The best we could hope for is Higuain or Lukaku type who are good but flawed, no different to Giroud. The best option would be to go after a goal scoring winger and have our goals come from the wing with the striker being complimentary of them.

Higuain most certainly is world class. Far better than Giroud. When was the last time Higuain went on a 6-game scoreless run in a league or 10 all up?

Agreed on the winger part though. That should be a priority regardless of who our striker is. Niguez is a star and we could do with a talent like him.

107 goals in 190 matches at Madrid, 62 goals in 100 matches for Napoli. The guy is clinical as ****. Clinical is not an adjective you'd use to describe Giroud.

Edit: throw in recent form of 29 goals in 36 games this season (27 goals in 29 league games) and it puts the debate to rest. Giroud hasn't scored against EPL or European competition in 12 matches...

That's nice and all but....

You think the club is going to pay the 70m+ Napoli want for him?

Higuain is a much better finisher than Giroud and is a known goalscorer.
Giroud works hard both ways and is good at bringing other people into play, but he's not really a huge goalscorer.
I appreciate that from Giroud but it would be fantastic to have someone who could finish the chances at a better rate.
Would like Higuain, could have got him a few years back, but not worth the figure that is being floated around.
No point really thinking about it, no chance of getting him.

We missed our chance with Higuain a few years ago, we'd baulk at his price tag now so its very unlikely to happen.

The world class strikers are now beyond our reach, but there are other forwards who most definitely improve our current options of Welbeck, Giroud, Walcott.

Giroud should be retained as a back up, with one of Walcott and Welbeck to be sold. But on the ridiculous wages of Walcott's, he'll be very difficult to move.
