GEELONG - Fighting On
Good day Cat and other Afl Fans, I am a Supporter of the mighty hooped team, For the Geelong football club to survive, we have to firstly keep only blooding new players and drafting young players not selecting players that a past it. The city of greater Geelong and surrounding local govertnment organisations have been spending upward of 2 billion dollars in a redevelopment of Geelong, Why oh why has none of that not been spent on the Towns greatest Asset the Geelong footy club, to survive Shell needs to be a fully modern Stadium, with a capacity of 35-40,000 new grandstands, better facilities for the players and public, and what better than playing at Night under lights.

Give us your views am I a dreamer or do people agree.

What do people recon about the Jumpers for next year, we will have our traditional blue and white hoops, but we are going to have an away jumper and a third jumper(which will be a clash jumper like (liverpool and Man Utd).

I want 2 see the cats alive 4 ever go cats.

Well, I'd love to see light towers at Shell stadium and a new stand overlapping Moorable street called the Gary Ablett stand, and a new stand inbetween the Hicky stand and past players stand called the 'Hocking Stand' - but as much as I'd love to see all this, the real question is $$$$.

And I want our blue and white hoops preserved. Do our jumpers clash with anyones?

Western Bulldogs would be very interested in playing home games out of a re-developed KP as well !

Anything to get them out of Colonial, where the overheads are way too high, the crowds (Doggies' crowds) are wayy to small and the club hasn't been able to make a dime outta the joint. Inspite of what they were led to believe at the time.

Good idea, great idea even, but after the Colonial disaster, I'm not sure tereribly many developers would be putting thier hands up for that one ...

cheers

upgrade shell

I don't think it is a case of if Geelong will upgrade Shell Stadium, it is more a case of when will Geelong upgrade Shell Stadium.

To be truthful, I think that the recent upgrades of the outer and the inclusion of the Ford stand, while they might be good for business and corporate dollars have detracted from the atmosphere of the place. If people remember the late 80s and early 90s, clubs hated playing at Geelong, because of the vocal support the ground gave Geelong.

I remember a game in 1993. Round 21, when Geelong played Essendon, 32,000 crammed in and it was the best atmosphere seen at a surburban ground in a long time. Of course we all know Essendon won the flag that year, but Geelong won the game and did it easily whats more.

Geelong are in a catch 22 situation. They want to get as many supporters as possible so they are going into the Melbourne market, but like most teams, have a core market that they had better not alienate. North are in a similar position.

Geelong should be in a better position than they are. They have a whole city at their disposal and sponsorship should never be a problem. They should play every home game at Geelong, instead of games once a month. They should forget about Melbourne and concentrate on their home base which has served them for 100 years. A conserted push into Melbourne won't make a bit of difference to membership, if people love their club, they will alsways be a member.

The Cats made a profit of some $400,000 for their game against Richmond at home this year which attracted 27,000, yet you have no hope of doing that at Colonial, even with 50,000 as Geelong had against Collingwood. At the MCG, you need at least 65,000 to get that sought of figure in returns. A similar figure is expected this week against Brisbane as the game is nearly sold out.

Shell Stadium is a gold mine for any club. With reserved seating, a club will make a fortune if they play haome games there. A 25,000 crowd at Geelong is better than 45,000 at Colonial. Doggies, if you're smart you will make the move.

I remember reading on gfc.com that Geelong has been given a certain amount (I can't remeber how much) to begin re-developing the ground.

As much as I'd like to see SS upgraded, the problem is money. While we are paying off this debt, upgrading is out of the question. We should wait until the debt is wiped out and we have some money to spend on upgrades.
I'm sure they intend to upgrade though. You have to, to remain up to AFL standard.

You either have to play all your home games at Geelong or none. I can't beleive that you would play home games anywhere other than Geelong, given that you would control signage, catering, corporate facilities.

It will need a lot of money to bring it to a 35 to 40000 seat stadium though which I dought exists.

Good luck with whatever the board decides.
