V8SC Rd 10-THE GREAT RACE (Need I say more)

Well it's just 3 weeks away to the greatest Sunday of the Australian Motorsport Year. I've posted this early for the whole buildup and to paint the picture as best as possible.

HSVDT are taking a massive gamble in pairing their main guys together, perhaps a little worried about Lowndes/Whincup doing the business again. Word though is that 888 are looking to give them a new toy for the mountain. Other changes within the teams have to be finalised by the end of Thursday practice (it's a 4 day event, qualifying on Friday, shootout on Saturday). Of those expect Skaife to be fit and firing for HRT and Brad Jones to be right to drive in his BOC BF.

TV Coverage is as per last year mainly with Friday and Saturday all covered. However note the NEW start time of 10:30 AM EST (10:00 AM CST, 8:30 AM WST). They're planning to use the extra half hour to introduce the 31 cars individually - a bit like basketball introduces their starting 5. Then again, I guess they have a little more time to stretch out the coverage given 7 doesn't have F1.

Being from Adelaide the Clipsal 500 is of huge importance not only to my motorsport calendar but to my calendar in general, but NOTHING comes close to the specticle. NSWCROW I believe Seton was as white as a ghost on many occasions at the Mountain but 1995 was the worst and the 1 I believe you are referring to. No one was gonna catch the PJ Falcon that day and yet it broke, mind you DJ and Bowe were miles and miles in front earlier before theyd be taken out by a lapped car.

So many great moments in Australian sport have happened on that patch of road and no doubt more are to come.

As for this race...... no doubt Toll are worried about 888 now, theyre closing the gap and look really really good. Skaife will be back to somewhere near his best so he and TK will be tough to beat. From the Ford camp..... both FPR cars will go alright, their co-drivers seem to be quite quick too. DJR always go well up there and if Bezzie can keep it on track I expect SBR to have 2 good cars. From the Dark Side, other than those mentioned I cant see too many others challenging except their sister cars and Tasman and probably Canto/Holdsworth.

Murph is a decent driver, but cannot setup a car for shit. Whilst at Kmart he really benefitted from Todd's expertise in this area... they didn't call him the setup kid for nothing.

The most unreal Bathurst I have ever seen. Great work there stmookeyj. I remember the whole thing very well, an event like that is hard to forget.

The old adage "To finish first, First you must finish" didnt apply that day. DJ still probably to this day, and IMO rightly so, feels like he was robbed. Still, a super race in awful conditions which of course was soured by the great Denny Hulme's passing.
