Vandenberg, Dixon, Croad, Jacobs and Osbourne?

Clarko said on SEN that Vanders was just sore.

Dixon and Smith relaxed pre-season due to their age, no urgency for either of them.

Croad and Jacobs shouldn't be rushed at all. We cannot risk them as they are both vital to our backline this year.

Haven't heard much about Osbourne, but after such a long time away from footy maybe eased back through the VFL?

Good thread, I was thinking the same thing.

I think it's a tough one because there is no way in hell McGlynn should get dropped. He looks like Marc Murphy but tougher - I love this kid.

Vandenberg should come in for Clarke who is a joke. I know your going to all give it to me, but I want him off our list. He doesn't even make a contest anymore, he is a joke.

Croad has to come in for Dawson. Jacobs in for someone although I thought Gilham was great and who the hell was number 34 I liked him???

Dixon and Boyle about the same although I think we should put some time into Boyle for what we saw tonight. You also forgot Smith, who is another on the outer.

Bateman disappointed me tonight, although it's not really surprising. Our young talent is so superior that some of these middle of the road players we have are being found out.

By the way Muston has to stay in. You might think I am kidding but he looked like Judd did in his first game

A class act.

34 was Renouf.

Dixon kicked 39 goals last year and plays a different position to Boyle. Should come in for Matty Little.

Bateman must stay because of his run (especially when we are missing Smith).

Bateman disappointed me tonight.

I don't think you really watched the game properly. Did you go? I went, and it seems every time I turned around Changa was charging thru the middle like a bull at a gate, taking possession, and linking defense to attack like a champion. Disposal let him down a little, but it's the 1st game of the year, and that'll improve for sure. Was in our best, no question.
(even the HFC website thought so)

Lol. Don't agree with you there - One of our most consistent players last year, he goes hard all day. 15 Disposals is good enough for me - More than Mitchell and Franklin and equal with McGlynn. Great tagger also!

You also forgot Smith, who is another on the outer..
Knew I was forgetting someone.....so much talent in these 6 guys...

COULDN'T DISAGREE MORE!!! 18 Disposals, 9 Marks and 3 tackles says otherwise.

What a debut, very promising and what a SUPER GOAL!

Nice problem to have, isn't it?

I agree that Dixon should come in for Little but then again, it's the pre-season comp and maybe Little should be given more opportunities.

Out of all the players listed above, I only really missed Croad - Just some experience and toughness in the backline.

VDB will no doubt take Ladson's spot.

Do we need 3 ruckmen against Carlton? (I saw Buddy contesting some boundary throw ins tonight) - I'm dying to see JK.

I was glued to it Roddy...

But I saw a different Bateman to you. I saw him stuff up two forward 50 entries in the third quarter, one caused a turn-around that ended up being called a 9 pointer...

He ran hard but brought back memories of the old hack Hawks who turned it over all the time.

The class of our young players now and our expectations, demand better, especially from an experienced player. He nearly cost us the game

I know your thinking I am too harsh but we cannot tolerate poor footskills anymore if we want to play finals.

What a debut, very promising and what a SUPER GOAL!

Dixon in for Little
Smith in for Clarke as a tagger (Keep him out of defence)
Croad in for Dawson
Vandenberg in for Ladson
Jacobs in for someone but I loved 34 (Cant believe it was Renouf). What a gun he will be. Has to be someone else, don't know who but like Boyle in the team.

Muston must stay in as well as McGlynn...

Bring on Ellis and then Clarke and Vandenberg can play for Box Hill... tongue in cheek :D

This is what I hope the line-up will be next week:
B: Brown Gilham Guerra
HB: Sewell Renouf Birchall
C: Bateman Lewis Crawford
HF: Franklin Roughead Muston
F: Williams Boyle McGlynn
Foll: Campbell Hodge Mitchell
Int: Taylor Vandenberg Clarke Tuck Little Young

Emerg:

IN: Vandenberg, Tuck
OUT: Ladson (inj), Dawson

I was very impressed with Gilham and am prepared to cement him into FB for the season. He was very accountable today in keeping Miller to a few possessions. Dawson just isn't up to AFL level.
Tuck deserves a run in my opinion.
I think they should let Muston settle into a wing, HFF position where he can be damaging with his thumping kick.
McGlynn deserves another go after 2 goals and 15 possessions.
Renouf showed that he candle KP in the backline much better than Dawson.
Boyle is on thin ice IMO but he does provide a contest. Lets hope he snags a few goals next week.
On the leadup to the season I think Jacobs should replace Guerra and Croad replace Renouf who will battle with Taylor for backup ruck. Dixon to probabaly replace McGlynn or Muston. Smith to get a go on the bench and Osborne fighting for a place on the team.
Looking the goods :thumbsu:

Browny ain't playing next week, or the next few after that either.:D

I'll be the first to admit that i wasn't a Clarke fan at all, but his work rate is sensational. He runs hard all the time, just to lay shepherds and create space. Whilst his disposal is second rate, he will never be dropped because the players and coaches love him.

I was disappointed in Changas game also. Ho got it a lot but his disposal was terrible (I'm a fan of his btw). He missed a few goals in the third that should have been kicked and both times the Dees got one straight away at the other end (Green 9 pointer was one). This really put us under the pump as we fell behind about 25 points at that stage (from memory). I like his hard running but he really needs to clean the skills up. We have been hearing for a few years now from the coaching staff about how they are only going to draft and play players who can execute their skills efficiently. I still think we have some way to go.

I think Tom Murphy should get a decent run...
he showed a lot of promise playing in defence (stitching up an in-form Kayne Pettifer) and up forward as an accountable forward...(he did this against Lance Whitnall shutting him down whilst getting a goal himself)...

any thoughts?

Fair comment. Those goals he missed were disappointing...

Browny could go for 2+ weeks for his elbow to the head. Muston if ok should stay as a result. Mitchell Thorp to play in front of his home crowd, just like AC allowed Birchall to, before he so well cemented his place in the side anyway. We're playing the Blues, and they're big buggars, if there isn't an inclusion of Croady or DJ, Roughead will have to play backline. Otherwise we will get smashed ! The Blues supporters at work are all about that it should be a great game..................the midfield tussles will be first rate, but the ball will be coming at a frenetic frequency. Gibbs, Murphy and Carrazzo v Hodge, Lewis and Crawford..................last man standing.

Somewhere on a forum Clarko's apparently quoted as saying Ellis was promised a game in 2nd round. Not sure if this is accurate but I'd expect another couple of new kids to get a go. I read (forum) that Thorp's got a leg injury and won't be available for another few weeks.

Roughead needs to learn how to kick straight. Played a good game but should have kicked 4 or 5 himself.
Also, Murphy should be in the side. Very skilful, has great composure and is mature.

Vanders will be right for next NAB cup game.
Dicko was not sighted at training Saturday,so not sure what is going on with him.
Trent moved well in sprint work,it just depends how his wrist is.
Danny Jacobs and Ossie looked a little way off in there running work.
Joel Smith is another that was not seen at training Saturday.
Does anyone know what is going on with Dicko,Joel Smith and Mitch Thorp, none where training Sat 24th Feb.

.

Gilham for full-back. Vanders was struggling to run laps this morning.
