Brisbane Bullets.
South Queensland Crushers.
Gold Coast Giants/Seagulls/Chargers.

Titans and Lions on life support.

The market simply won't sustain us.

If nothing changes, the South East Queensland sporting team undertaker will have another casket to bury.

I bought my son the full Brisbane Lions outfit for Auskick, but fortunately he is too young to realise what his father has done to him. Only Lion jumper in a sea of 5 yr old Tigers, Hawks, Pies, Cats and Blues. He said to me this morning, we are Lions daddy because they are the strongest animal. Poor kid.

I've done the same for my daughter - playing at Canterbury and surrounded by Hawks - luck she is tougher than I am!

'Things are never as bad as they seem...'

Yes, yes they are, probably worse. No quip from the lips of lethal can help us now

When Leppa took over he said it will take time for the players to learn the new game plan etc. I think we all accepted that it wouldn't happen overnight. But 27 games in and the game plan is non existent? What is our plan? The players seem to have no faith in what Leppa is trying to teach them.

So my question is how come Walsh at the Crows and Beveridge at the Dogs can walk in and turn their respective sides into gun teams immediately? Hinkley did the same at Port. Proves it can be done. We have gone backwards at 100mph.

Good article in today's courier mail by Lynch, highlighted our starts to the year from 2011 to now and suggested Queensland footy is not even close to being in crisis. As angry and disappointed as I am, I tend to agree. And I think this is the best time to use the quote "Things are never as bad as they seem" just as things were never as good as they seemed after we breezed through the pre-season after recruiting our three recruits. We will get back to a respectable position by years end.

Oops.. this is a vent thread isn't it? Where's the optimism thread!

At present it is clear that the only way our club remains viable in Brisbane is regular success - and by that I mean constantly appearing in finals and constantly being in a premiership window. If that is not the case then support falls away rapidly and that is a massive worry.

We have around 25,000 members of which around 4,000 are based in Victoria and maybe 500 country/3 game/armchair members (no idea of numbers). That leaves roughly 20,000 members - if the crowd numbers at our games at the GABBA are 20,000 it is more like 12,000 members turn up after casual observers, opposition members and supporters, and corporates are taken out of the equation. Where are the others? Given up?

12,000 turn up to Q Clash, a game that on paper we were a chance at winning (and by the start of the game we were favourites to win). Granted the weather was terrible leading up but was fine last night -that is a very ordinary crowd. Perhaps points to how fickle both teams supporters are up there. Would have been a sellout if both clubs were up and going.

If our current form holds up for the rest of the year there will be less people turning up to games up there than at Fitzroy games in our later years - quite possibly opposition supporters could outweigh Brisbane supporters. Furthermore our membership numbers will take a massive hit - and that does not bode well financially and we know the AFL is a business now.

Guess things could have been worse - Fitzroy might have merged with North Melbourne and I'd have to barrack for Lindsay farking Thomas.

They haven't been as bad as they seem for about 8 years?

2010 and 2011 were worse imo.. After round 4 in 2010 we were horrendous and in 2011 we got knocked off by the suns a couple of games after they entered the comp. We also went 0-7 in 2011 from memory. We saw last year how quickly things can improve.

First 5 games of season 2011 we lost by an average of 20pts (including a hiding of 78pts in round 2, gee coincidence this season much!?).

First 5 games of season 2015 we've lost by an average of 45.2pts.

I'd say we are worse in 2015 ;)

Y can we as supporters know our number priority has to be to stop Bennell as discussed during the week . Seem's none of our coaching staff thought it was that important and what do you know, we give him space and he rips us apart it's so frustrating. Dizzy on Dixon with no help? Really.? Scarey we have not played a top side. We will have a 150 point loss this year no doubt.

agree... our team is coming close to the worse ive seen league wide. Definitely the worst Brissie Lions team ive seen

Our players are devoid of confidence. They are being forced to forget their natural football smarts to attempt to play an overly structured and complicated game plan. There isjust no fun left in the game for them. Their attitude is one of guarding space rather than personal responsibility. Protect their own backsides. This is a classic case of the process overtaking the objective. Silly stuff to attempt when you don't have a "spine". Until we get Merrett and Freeman back we should revert to survival mode and simply man up and make our opponents accountable. Unbelievable that Bennell was allowed to run free until after half time when Bewick attempted a tag. The horse had bolted. Suns confidence was up across the park. Leppa needs to swallow his pride and admit his no tagging policy is not feasible at this stage of our rebuild.

ALL staff need to go, the culture is clearly s*** hence the attitude grows off it, our fitness and strength are the worst in the comp. We need a strong and authoritative coach, not one that says its all going to be ok and is overly friendly with the players. Was thinking Bolton but he's way too nice

Bomber Thompson is needed as coach he gets the job done but also cops it on the chin if it doesn't work and changes his ideas, Does not blame the players for his inability on coaching a football team.

I will not attend another Brisbane Lions match in 2015. As a Victorian member I have been to nearly every game in VIC for the last 5+ years. Although wins are rare there has always been one or two elements that I have been keen to watch in terms of inprovement/development. This year absolutely Zilch. The team is a disgrace and I will not be throwing my support behind a bunch a pea hearted ****wits. L

eppa needs to go, Stinks of Primus at port and the playing list needs to be blown up. Paperone is a disgrace, Green is a downhill skier just to name a couple. The club is at a point where they deserve to be booed off the field.

End rant.

I honestly believe it's not the players on this occasion I do not think the like the coach and have very little respect for him, if this is true they will not play for him.

Enter Mark (bomber) Thompson.

Really like Bomber Thompson but I think he doesn't want to coach anymore.

I go to all our home games, personal circumstances permitting. I also go to all the 2nds games I can

But you've gotta draw the line somewhere. That line for me is Merticon- it is a ratshit ground with terrible access.

I'm sure there are others who will go through the agony, but not me.

I think our present predicament might well be the result of much more deep-seated problems- recruitment principally but not only. In spite of what Alistair Lynch thinks, if this is the best off-field situation we've been in for a long while, then why are we where we are on-field?

I think when any interstate recruit walks in to Coorparoo they must ask themselves almost inevitably- how long do I have to serve up here? It's a joke-surely the Lions' main facilities are elsewhere? No -this is it.

Just give us some hope. That's all I ask. Right now, we're no bloody hope.

Elsewhere I said that in my opinion both Christensen and Green were overweight. Assuming I am right, how does this occur? Green is a shadow of last year and Christensen is way off the pace.

I've been at training and observed as many support personnel as players, so we don't lack in numbers. How are these basics not taken care of.

Fitness regime for those who are unfit: train every day, twice a day if necessary, skin-fold each week, serious talking to [perhaps by LM] and fines for not meeting fitness KPI's. Too hard?

None of this can really be laid at the feet of the present coach, but if things don't improve then come season end he will pay the price.

Is freeman going to be the savour ? A lot of pressure on him from a handful of games

He's not going to come out and dominate. Taking pressure off mcstay will help

Yeah I know. He is so far off what we need but at least he is the big body up forward for our midfielders to kick to.
