The thing with Norf, is that there kids have been in the system a lot longer than ours, and I could be a bit biased as I don't like Norf much, but none of their kids stood out as absolute stars. I mean everyone notices Dahlhouse, who is Norf's Dahlhouse? Swallow is good, but he is in to his third year, and should be putting more of a stamp on the game - I mean he is the captain?

It makes me even more firmly agree with Macca' plan, so that we don't become a mediocre team, with a mediocre list, from mediocre drafts, who will finish in a mediocre spot on the ladder. We aim for a flag not just to participate.
Swallow is in his 6th year this year, not his 3rd :p

In terms of possible stars for them, Atley will be a very good player. He'd be the most certain for me.
I'm also a big fan of Kieran Harper.

There's guys like Ziebell and Bastinac, but I don't think they'll ever be stars. Especially Bastinac. Not sold on him at all.

Not necessarily the right thread for this topic, but I don't think I'm allowed to start a new thread yet.

Is anyone aware of a club think tank coming up soon, to discuss all aspects of the club's operations?

Just as an aside, I found the Dale Morris interview on the TV at halftime to be excellent. What an inspiration that guy is. I'll try and put it up on youtube for everyone to have a look at, but it could take a while as I'm staying at a hotel in Macau at the moment and the internet is disgraceful.
Would be very much appreciated whenever you get the time, Trugo :thumbsu:

Apart from Wells, Petrie and Harvey they have a very even team but no absolute stars. Our guys were much more physically under-developed, but we were still able to hold our own in the contests. For a team of over-30 yo's, first and second year players plus Griffen, Picken and Minson we did not seem that out-matched (thats if we could kick straight!).

In: Dal, Williams, Wood
Out: DJ, Talia(balance), Skinner

Wood Lake JJ
Murphy Roughead Grant
Tutt Boyd Wallis
Dalhaus Williams Addison
Dickson Campbell Gia

Minson, Picken, Griffen

Libba, Howard, Pearce | Smith

McCartney certainly has figured out how to combat our game plan.

We need to go after Grant Weeks from Golden Square mature age recruit, I have seen him play for years he is an excellent FF well built strongest hands I have seen, great mark, accurate goal kicker. Only 23 years old. Could get him cheap has kicked 100 goals in a season multiple times. kicked 21 goals on the weekend. We are better off drafting mature aged Forwards than young kids in the draft as the development is too long big risk. Our forward is a disgrace honestly I know we are young but seriously it's a huge worry for me. Delivery is poor into the forward line. Which doesn't help and don't get me wrong Addison was a great target yesterday but he is a backmen and made the rest of our forwards look like a joke. Dickson is a great find though I like the cut of his jib. We need mids who can deliver the footy with efficiency, that way if our forwards aren't great it will make it easier for them the amount of times we kick to our forwards over there heads or just in front is just so frustrating, no excuses, we have no structure, who is our forward coach. What is he teaching them??

A 50 point win, against a team of kids, beat your chest by all means if you are satisfied with that....

I'm being serious. Tactically he has worked us out. As you'll recall you actually beat us first time round. And we were crap in the 1st half yesterday. We only won because our kids are further along the line than yours.

McCartney has combated our handballing gameplan well.

One thing about footy is that teams sometimes match up well or poorly against each other for extended periods in a way that doesn't always reflect their ladder positions.

I think you'll be down for another year or two yet, but certainly not too long and nothing like what say Melbourne are going through. And we'll be playing finals and on the way up.

But I expect our games to be very tight affairs and won't be at all surprised if you beat us despite being lower than us on the ladder.

I think our contested football pressure worries North as this is not a strong point of Norths game, although we could only keep it up for a half, plus North had a dominate Forward target in Peach tree who destroyed us, our forward line non existent, we turned the ball over to many times with poor disposal, decisions and get burnt hard on the counter, this has been a pattern for 2 and half months after half time. I know we are young but not winning any qtrs in the 2nd half in the last two months is just not good enough. Sorry Brendan.

Board member Barry Hall was in the "Top Dogs"room yesterday and said starting Monday there is a 2 day think tank happening.

One of the things being discussed is our poor recruiting which he is very passionate about.

Thanks Mackem.

Hopefully we'll get some positive outcomes. Certainly giving Clayton's efforts closer scrutiny wouldn't go astray, although it's a bit late to help Gold Coast.

If I could have one player from North it would be Atley, in a heartbeat.

Young, quick, skillful. He's a beauty.

Maybe Petrie after that. Two birds one stone here: solve our forward line problem and stop him from owning us nearly every time we play them.

Their midfield is quite good without an out and out star. Swallow is a very good player. Wells is finally starting to pull his finger out. He should have been a fully fledged star years ago though. Harvey still goes alright for someone who's a hundred million years old.

Never understood the love Ziebull gets from their fans. Average to good at best. Has Matthew Boyd-esque disposal at times. Bastinac is solid. I like Goldstein too - I would have him as well.

If they don't have to travel to Perth in the first week I rate them a chance to win a final.

Griffen needs to become our prime outside midfielder next year, he needs to work on his kicking as he, Tutt, JJ and Easton Wood need to be feeding our forwards with better kicking. Liberatore also is one of our best kicks in our team in my opinion, very underrated, his kicking never gets talked about. Has a left foot 50-60 metres consistently, and I saw him kick about 40 on his right yesterday. Serious kicking talent, for an inside mid, he clearly is our best by foot, way better than Boyd.

The whole team should work on their kicking in the pre season.

And fitness

Yeah definitely Rob. Fitness is a big issue. The whole club really needs to work on running out 4 quarters of football every week. It's not AFL standard this year.

Last preseason it was contested ball. This preseason it needs to be fitness and disposal like we said..........next year if we improve these two areas we will naturally improve
