Re: Vez, LJohn, Bird

Bird man injured, should come back into the 22 after a couple of reserves games for fitness. Johnston starting to string some games together in reserves, looking good. Might see him make his debut soon.

Vesz, who knows. Having an attitude problem or not following coaches instructions is the only reason I can think he hasn't had a game this year.

Re: Vez, LJohn, Bird

With a lot of guys getting promoted ahead of Vez it seems the coaches really want to ram home to him that he has to work his tail off to get a regular seniors spot. He'll get there eventually im sure.

Johnston will struggle to make it into the seniors any time soon as this is his first year of regular reserves football. He's been going well though apparently though. So next year he could be pushing for games but i doubt the coaches will want to bring him up just yet as he was out all of last year and has only just begun again in the 2's.

Bird will have a few games in the 2's and will come in almost straight away i reckon as long as his form is good. They love him and with Kirky now leaving at year's end they will want him to step into the middle with JPK and get as much game time in there as possible.

Re: Vez, LJohn, Bird

Talk on the richmond board of them talking to patty's manager about a move back to Melbourne. Not sure how much truth there is behind it but I'd feel kinda empty about it without seeing what he has to offer in the seniors..

Think he's contracted? He would have to request a trade if that's the case. Have to love rumours though as there's so much shite out there!

Signed for another two years midway through last season, so is contracted until the end of 2011. Seems strange that his manager would have been talking about a return to Melbourne at the end of last season when Pat had just resigned for two years.

Re: Vez, LJohn, Bird

Hey guys,

The dude who wrote that rumour on our board is a Carlton fan, however he has been spot on about a few of our trades before, including Mitch Farmer before anyone else knew. Not sure who his source is but it must be a good one.

Either way I understand it sucks to lose a young player you used a first round on and we would have to satisfy you with a trade given he is still contracted. I haven't seen much of Vezpremi what is he like? Think I have seen him bag a few goals, but seems similar play to Mitch Morton.

Vez, Brett Meredith & Sydney 1st round Pick for Dustin Martin. If you're interested, have your people call my people :)

Re: Vez, LJohn, Bird

Jesus, if Vesz is getting antsy so soon I'm worried. It's only been two and a bit years, he was drafted with the knowledge that he had deficiencies in his game and he's been injured. I'd say those are bigger stumbling blocks to regular first grade time than a lack of opportunity.

Did your people have anything to do with trading NZ for a couple of blankets.

Martin has been one of the bigger disappointments of the season. He's hard at it, no question, but his disposal is awful. Has he been mentored by Shane Tuck? I'm sure most of Tuck's kicks are aimed at someone he knows in the stands.

Apparently we were red hot for him so the story goes, you might know more on that being in Melbourne - I think we dodge a bullet on missing him and Rohan will be by far the Better of the two. Martin reminds me a lot of Freos Palmer, will both be good players but not top tier.
It just shows what a magnificent selection Hanners The Hammer was at 30.:thumbsu:

Martin's biggest problem may be just the fact he's at Richmond, and is surrounded by blokes who can't kick, but I keep waiting for him to have the breakout game, and ... yes, I'm happy we've got Rohan and Hannebery. Throw in Jack and Bird ...

Totally disagree.I have seen a fair bit of Martin and he is a damn good player.Certainly doesn't look like a first year player and stands out in a poor team.Well built young bloke.

So you're okay with all that inefficiency? Yes, he's a well-built young bloke ... that's irrelevant.

Could well be that simple, it's certainly been systemic down Tigger town for quite a while.:o

I've not seen that much of him, but from the snippets I have seen (and especially the game we played against Richmond) he appears to have been kicking long and indiscriminantly far too often. There is no doubt he has good penetration on his kicking and U18 highlight reels suggest he can actually kick to a target. I suspect his decision making and disposal efficiency will improve markedly as he settles down a bit - and if Richmond start to get a clue about how to play footy.

I'm not slagging him entirely ... he's still a class above most in yellow and black, even less than 10 games into his career.

Re: Vez, LJohn, Bird

In between fluffing around with my anthropology essay I started thinking bout Vesz and reasons why he wouldn't be considered for the senior side this year - legitimate reasons, none of this speculative 'he's fallen out of favour' business.

I remember reading one of Joey's blogs where he was talking about living with Patty and Taylor Gilchrist and how taylor was trying to bulk up whilst he and Pat were trying to lose or maintain weight. Then he goes on the say that pat has his own separate meals that he has a special little fridge for and gets delivered?? Can't really remember the exact wording, but this leads me to believe maybe he has a fitness problem?

I don't watch the ressies PERIOD, so can someone more informed clarify if that's an issue holding him back?

Re: Vez, LJohn, Bird

There were questions about his fitness during the draft period, probably why he dropped later because on football ability he was dubbed "pizza supreme" ie he had the lot.. I remember the 2008 final against the bullies where he ran hard to the wing, got bumped off the ball and was just to exhausted to get up.. Although that was 2 years ago, so you'd think his fitness would have improved. He has had interruptions through injury though

Re: Vez, LJohn, Bird

Lol you guys saying Martin has poor kicking need to chill.

I agree some of his kicks have been off but give the kid a chance to settle. Watching every one of his games I can still tell you his disposal is top notch, his main problem is he isn't using his kicking enough. Some beatufiul passes on his right and left have been witnessed by yours truly and to say he is a dissapointment in his first season considering he is top 10 in AFL clearances is a bit of a joke.

Back to the question I posed though and replying to your offer I will have to respectfully decline. Dustin Martin is well and truly staying put, one of you guys tell that senile old bastard Kevin Sheedy.

As for Vezpremi if he is fat and slow then I don't want him lol. But thanks for letting me know what the go is.
