Are the ABC still televising the VFL in 2012? If so, it might be possible we could be on TV quite a bit, considering we have 5 games in the 1pm Saturday timeslot.

I hope we are on TV - this is really the only way I get to see many of our younger players.

I was listening to some ABC person who said the most expensive broadcast they do all year is the VFL coverage. It seems strange it costs so much - but they say it is hard to justify given the low ratings and the enormous cost to their budget.

My second wish for the year is that the VFL Cats side makes it to the finals. We seem to have the players - but with a few injuries and rotations to senior players - we never seem to have the team to do that well.

I think now that we're getting more experienced players like Troy Selwood, Jaxson Barham and that guy from Werribee whose name escapes me at the moment playing for our VFL side, it helps the younger guys a lot playing alongside more experienced guys. Last year we were sending out a bunch of kids week after week, and it took till mid-season for them to get used to playing alongside each other, but by then it was too late.

I'm thinking 2012 will be a great year for us. Some of the new players trying out for the 17 - 21 spots this year are quality players who are seeming right at home in Matthew Knight's new regime. Few of the names you will see post Christmas (I'm making a habit of only showing the photos.. leaving it up for people to identify now) could help make competition for spots a lot fiercer.

The fixture is looking good, but I'm expecting a chance prior to the start of the season.. given it is an amateur competition, expecting players and officials to travel from Geelong to Bendigo after work on a Friday night is the stupidest decision imaginable.

I note that rounds 2,3,4, and 5 are all in the Geelong region. We should be able to get a good number of supporters there.

I will definitely be wearing my 2011 premiership jumper to round 2.

By the way. Is "Avalon Oval" just a sponsor name for the old Werribee ground?

Dominic Gleeson.

But yeah I agree, he, Selwood, Barham Raidme and McLean are a good vfl core to work with, especially if Hollmer and Tutungi, who always set the tone for the kids, suit up again as well, plus whichever new players fill the remainder of the spots, that's some good experience to mix in with the draftees.
