This is why the VFL competition is almost unwatchable as far as being a genuine competition. The team changes so dramatically from week to week you have no sense of connection to the team other than the colours they are wearing. I miss the old days of ressies and under 19's before the main show. You could watch your youth develop before your eyes every week.

I'll never forget the first time some standout passage of play involving Peter Moore, Ricky Barham, Darren Millane, James Manson and Mick McGuane to name a few, caused me to think we had something special on our hands.

To those who thought Steene was AFL ready and a better option than Cox, I hope you’re watching this game. Steene is not a ruck or a forward at VFL level, he should be delisted but we don’t recruit big guys, or we don’t recruit good big guys.

I remember hearing about a young bloke called Peter Daicos killing it in the U19's, who was making his debut for the Reserves at Victoria Park one day when I was there. He went alright and was in the 1sts not long after.

I don’t think anybody said Steene was AFL ready ( whatever that means, there are degree of course).

Most like myself were saying the only way Cox should make way is IF Steene (or Smit) were ready , or close to ready. I don’t think anybody suggested unequivocally he should come in except to say it would be wise if he had some senior games before September just in case .
