You get the odd tosser who wants recession into the Vic comp complaining about it, but jeez, the interstate perception of the matter is ridiculous.

The Herald Sun ( with its stories being syndicated into the other Murdoch tabloids) is largely to blame for this. I think anyone who actually goes to Victoria and talks to people knows that most Vics only really care about their own club, and generally, for example, hate Collingwood more than any interstate club.

But there is obviously a noisy minorty of footy's old guard and the media who have a forum in the Hun and like to beat this idiotic drum. Unfortunately it misrepresents Victorians at large.

How can you count SANFL flags when this competition has always been a 2nd Grade comp and still is a 2nd Grade comp.
If you want proof that its a 2nd grade comp, here are the facts.

...and he goes on to offer no "proof", just more ignorant prattling.

You're aware, of course, that it doesn't matter what you think?

Just keep convincing yourself how good yous are and how the SANFL is the premier competition. If that makes you feel good, its no problem as long as you stay within the borders of SA.

Regarding the Len Thompson quote: You can always find a former chamion to quote a parochial attitude - so what. I've always thought that it's more of a media driven story.

If a semi-final had been at the MCG then 80 to 100,000 would have attended but more than a million Victorians would have watched it on TV. Personally I don't care where the games are played as long as I get to watch them on TV.

Pfft this is crap. In 2001 West Toast and the Shockers were 14th and 16th while Adelaide and Sydney only made the finals by a game and both then lost by 50+ points in the first week of the finals with simular teams to today and smart drafting. At the same time Port and Brissy were 2nd and 3rd now they are where the WA teams were 5 years ago. Its called draft picks...

Every club except the Bulldogs have made the Prelims since 2000.

Too much sense Capt. Whacky. You have got it in one how the greater majority of Vics think about the domination of non Vic teams in the finals. Old VFL rivalries are still very strong and yes I hate C'wood much more than any of the interstate clubs.

You would have to think the non Vic supporters really just don't get it.

Wow, I've obviously found an intelligent specimen here.

That line (how good yous are) has been written in a way that Port Adelaide Supporters understand. The information I have is that most of you are feral and understand grammatical errors. I'm sorry if you don't fit into this category. You are obviously 'the' minority.:p

A likely story.

Remember what I said about ignorance, idiot?

And if you're going to call someone feral, it's probably a good idea to spell the word properly. You know, that sort of thing is a bit of an obvious backfire.

But what am I saying... obviously that must've been deliberate too, right?

I don't fathom how ex vfl supporters think they have every right to carry over their flags from a different competion into a rehashed and national comp, yet people from Port are not allowed.

I am happy for Sydney to have just won 1 flag and let go of the ones they won last century playing a melbourne based comp.

FWIW if ex vfl clubs are allowed to carry over flags into the national comp, then the same applies to Port thus making them the most succesfull club in the AFL. I guess this fact irks the collingwoods, the carltons and the essendons.

I agree in theory.
But when did the national comp start then?
When the Swans moved to Sydney? When West Coast and Brisbane joined? When Adelaide joined? When the name changed?
At what point did it become a national comp, rather than an expanded VFL?

We won flags in the same competition. Port won them in a lesser competition.

When the branding changed from this:

In 1990. ;)

Port Adelaide magpies never joined the comp.. thus not giving them the flags they won in a totally different comp.. port magpies still play in the safl and have won all there flags
On the swans winning just one flag http://sydneyswans.com.au/default.asp?pg=history&spg=swansfacts
that, on the clubs website says you have won now 4 flags not the one

When the AFL was formed! That is, when the first non-Victorian team team entered a national competition. That is, West Coast.

Unfortunately that means that the Crows have won more GF's than us! (So far)

Oh i didnt know freo played in 1975 comp? I guess West Coast had an unlucky season in 1977. How about that game at Victoria Park way back in 1973 when Adelaide Crows where up by 10 goals and the pies came back and finished any hope the crows had of playing in the finals.

;)

You idiot. Talk about Backfire. You are a true Port Adelaide supporter in every sense. Please check your Spell Checker or Dictionary and then argue the correct way to spell "FERAL".
Maybe I am wrong, you are not the minority. You are just as dumb as all Port Adelaide supporters.:p

Sydney's in Victoria now? Or are you talking about the first teams (West Coast and Brisbane) without a Victorian heritage?

Actually, the Port Adelaide Football club moved from the SANFL to the AFL in 1997, changing its colours and nickname for very obvious practical reasons. At the SANFL's insistance a new club, the Port Adelaide Magpies Football club, was created so that Port Adelaide's significant supporter base would not be lost by the SANFL.

You may now consider yourself informed.
