From the HS after an interview with Viney
The former Demons skipper will coach the side for the last five matches, but was quick to declare he had no intention of pushing for the senior job after this season.

"I'm going to be lucky to make it to next week, really," he said.

"My tenure has been put to me by the board to help out over the next five games and I've never had the desire to be a career coach so I'll just tackle these five weeks, hopefully do a good job and steer the club in this difficult time.

Could just be smoke & mirrors, but no reason not to believe him. And he hasn't just said he hasn't considered it, he's saying he'll step back in his current role at seasons end

Also from DemonsHQ twitter
Todd: my tenure is to be coach for five weeks. Then go back as GM of player development

I think thats a good thing on a few fronts.

1. He has a career direction with the MFC & wants to implement his goals.
2. He is not & was not interested in taking Bailey's position out from under him.
3. W can get another good coach into the club whilst keeping the talents of Viney too.

I heard Viney would be a good coach maybe 15 years ago but today he is not up with all the tactics and game plans of the modern game, I heard he is just happy doing his role as the fitness coach and doesn't aspire to be a full time senior coach.

There's no reason not to believe Viney (that I'm aware of) and I think it is good that his intentions as well as the board's are put out there now.

We have a skerrick of clarity in this whole business which can only be a good thing.

Importantly he stays on as a player development manager by the sound of things which I think is a role he feels suited to.

He was still playing 15 years ago :o

I think Todd has all the right experience to be a senior coach, he's been at multiple clubs as an assistant, one of them during a premiership season so he has tasted success. He's learnt from 3 very different extremes of senior coaches too in Clarko, Craig & Bailey, Clarko being a great match day coach & Craig the ultimate professional in sport science.

With all of that, his experience seems to bode very well to him moving into a senior role. But in the end, if he doesn't want it then it won't work. Just like Garry

he was the man who thought up all Hawthorns tactics in 2008. LOL

I just heard he is not up with all modern technologies, tactics and things in the modern game, he would of been better 10-15 years ago when the game was probably more simpler even if he was playing lol, but I don't really know that's just what I've been told, and didn't the scud get rid of Viney???

I wonder if he feels he shouldn't be coach with his son coming to the club in a couple of years? Let's sit back and see what he can do for the next 5 weeks, and that could change his mind...

Also, there seems to be more people not wanting to coach right now, than people wanting to put there hand up. Could come down to who literally wants the job. My list in order of coaches below:

Malthouse - still possible, but tied up in contracts at Collingwood
Roos - Not interested in coaching again
Clarkson - Will remain at Hawthorn
Thompson - Will remain at Essendon
Lyon - Doesn't want the job
Viney - Doesn't want the job
Williams - still possible, but will the AFL want him to leave GWS?
Eade - will more than likely remain at Bulldogs
Matthews - seems to have no desire to coach again

I really hope we snag one of these coaches(especially Malthouse). I think we need to. But there is a chance we might not. So it will be a very interesting couple of months coming up for the club. But a bucketload of cash will be required to snare one of these 'experienced' or 'uninterested' coaches to our club.

2. I don't believe that for 1 second.

3. Just say he's telling the truth. What if the new coach doesn't want him and wants to clean out the whole place and get his own men in like Hird did?

Eade - will more than likely remain at Bulldogs
Firstly the Bulldogs would be mad to keep him, he's taking the club nowhere.

Secondly what is everyone's love affair with this bloke. He has been there at the right time at 2 clubs and failed both times. Once he left Sydney they won the flag.

The only thing I see in Eade is mediocrity so I'm very concerned that we will go after him.

So what logical reason is there for him to lie and say "I has no lust for the job"? Why does he say that he doesn't want it if he's spent the last 30 years plotting with Garry Lyon to get it? Mark Rilley had no problem addmitting he wanted the top job, why would Viney say it if he's planning to take up the reins next year?

What happened Riley? If things go pear shaped his don't sack me excuse will be I never wanted the job, I'm happy being a manager.

I think Todd is thinking 2 years ahead to be honest.

Probably doesnt to be our coach while his son is playing, could lead to all sorts of ugly.
Why? Lindsay and Andrew Gaze ring any bells? Father and sons work together in many industries it should not be a problem.
