Michael Voss has taken up an assistant coaching position with the WCE starting at the end of the year. What an opportunity we have missed, I think he would have been a great addition to our coaching panel. As a recently retired great of the game who was the captain of the last great team he could have given invaluable advice to our up and coming young midfielders on how to get the most out of themselves and just what it takes to do it.

Instead we have ex players coaching and although they were very good in their day, they just weren't the real superstars who did whatever it took to get the best out of themselves each and every week. I think it would be in our best interests over the next few months to do whatever it takes to try and secure the services of a recently retired champion of the game. Someone like Buckley or Hird would be the first 2 names we should be getting on the phone to and offering them an assistants job. Put them in charge of the midfield group and let them teach these kids just what it takes to become top line AFL players.

Great player most certainly, but Im not convinced he has the credentials to make it as a coach, either as an assistant or senoir. Plenty of banal comments and meaningless rhetoric. Westcoast can have him :thumbsd:

mmmmmmmmmmm ... something in that don`t you think ? ..."players who got the best out of themselves " ... if only

As for Voss , i am going to send him a pack of Rolly papers so he can wrap himself up a little more

Care factor = 0

I couldn't care less about voss. There's something about him I just don't trust. Always pretentious and acts like he knows everything. Smug little prick.

who gives a flying f**************k care about as much as nicole kidman having a kid called aunday roast or whatever they call it got nothing to do with richmond.

Glad you actually got what I was on about Iddy, seems all the others just think it is about Voss himself.

For those of you who missed the point, I am talking about Richmond actually getting in assistants to Wallace who were genuine class acts on the field. Others talk about getting someone like Cousins onto the playing list because his work ethic in preparing for games is so good and he could show the likes if Deledio, Cotchin & Foley what it takes to be a champion. Instead of getting him, why don't we try and lure someone like Buckley or Hird or Rob Harvey(after he retires) to become an assistant to Wallace, just get them to work with those players who will be the midfield when we are ready to be a contender again and get them to show them what it takes to be a top midfielder & what it takes to be part of successful sides. Then maybe our players who we think might become champions will actually become champions.

Realistic I get your point. I think you're the one missing the point.

WE CAN'T EVEN GET OUR EX-PLAYERS TO COME BACK TO THE CLUB FFS!!!

Where are Mattie Knights and Wayne Campbell?

So who the ### is going to come to Richmond that anyone would regard as a "champion" of the game.

Mate, its bad for the old resume.

We need to work with what we have first, get some credibility first as a club, then we may attract some recently retired ex-champs.

Until then, champion ex-players will give Richmond a wide berth.

Royal and Rawlings were hardly great players in their day. WTF do they know about winning a premiership

Ok... here's the hard cold facts:

1) Voss is egotisctical tool. Champion footballer, but nothing he has said or written suggests he's anywhere near coaching material.

2) Buckley wont be coming to Richmond or would even entertain the thought. Best of the untried coaches, but its a fantasy to think he'll be interested in us.

3) Hird is interested in coaching. End of.

4) Richmond is not "the place to be" for ex-champions trying the hand at coaching. It does nothing for your credibility if we continue to fail.

5) The only chance of a champion wanting to work with us, is if we've either just finished top 4 and a chance at snagging a premiership OR Cotchin, Foley, Lids or Cho have just retired and feel guilty that they owe the club something.

If you were Hird, Voss, Buckley, Ricciutto, Grant, Carey, A. Stevens, Kelly... would you want to come to Richmond.

Me thinks not. So quit dreaming. ;)

We don't really want Voss anyway he's just another ginger p...k, smug as well.

"WE CAN'T EVEN GET OUR EX-PLAYERS TO COME BACK TO THE CLUB FFS!!!

As for this one i don't think theres any hope in hell that Knighter would come back as he's still pulling splinters of the knife that the RFC shattered in his back out.
Campbo is currently at the dogs as a forward coach so it's not beyond the realms of possibility nut do we want him back? :o

right now knowing how to win a premiership aint our problem dude. When the time comes then we can go from there.
Long range tip, Voss will be a lemon. He is in the process of making hay while the sunshines. If you were a star player, and you knew your name had currency after you retired, coupled with the media hype from day one, the weekly "advertisment", etc etc, you would not allow yourself the disadvantage of being the "buck stops with you" coach, with a team that will need development, not game plans for the first 5 or 6 years. He will take the plunge when a team that is ready to play in September comes a knocking. That way, he has the cattle that will minimise any chance that he is found out. The eagles job is money for jam for him. Rebuild phase, Woosher in the firing line, and he can just pull everyone's pud in the background.
Take a look at the best coaches over the stretch....the ones that get the runs on the board. They were hard, rough, tough bastards that invariably came out of the back pocket. Even Leigh Mathews wasnt regarded as a super star, rather he was totally respected and feared.
Voss will go down the line of other super stars, in Watson, KB etc. ;)

Exactly Cogga i'll be happy if we can win another two or three in a row :D
focus on the now , next year is for next year, putting the cart before the horse methinks :p

Nah , merely regarded by many astute judges as one of, if not the best to ever play the game , but regardless of that fact, along his legend status, the statue of him outside the MCG and the AFLPA award actually being renamed in his honour ...ok...if you say so....no superstar was he...:o

lets just say that the hype around Judd now, Watson or others that the media was going gaga over at the time, wasnt around for Lethal when he was playing the game. ;)

ppl of this calibre wouldnt touch us with your co.ck let alone their own.

On one hand clubs like WCE, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Collingwood and on the other a backwater like the RFC who have the most delusional, unrealistic supporters in the comp,

yeah we'd have a chance to get someone like Buckley :o

David King has all the playing and successful background credentials

Royal could play the game and Wallace was a top player at the Hawks and Bulldogs. At Richmond he showed us his stuff in one game.

We have ticks in all those areas, its just that we are not seeing results.

Even Frawley had to be respected as a player.

Im not sure how much playing career has to do with it in the end. That intangible seems to be the person themselves.

Im suprised to hear Koutafides talk up Wayne Brittain but Im suspicious that it was because Britain made life comfortable for him.

You may be right. But its a smart move by Voss to learn from one of the best coaches going around. If I wanted to be a senior coach, Worsfold is the kind of guy I'd want to be working for.

ok , so the formula for being a gun coach now is MUST be an outright champion player...since when has that been an infallible theory:confused:...someone better remind Al clarkson his hawks sure aint bound for glory
