2. Rutten Mean as cat sh it. Only gives away homing pigeons and boomerangs.
:D :thumbsu:

POTY

5. Mark Ricciuto - The Mailman. When you need him, he delivers. Dominated as a forward and got 20 touches as well. I should have put some of my hard earned for him as the leading goal kicker for the game at $40

4. Tyson Edwards - Probably our most consistent 4 quarter performer. Great in packs, clean as a whistle and instrumental in that 4th quarter.

3. Martin Mattner - His 2nd quarter was phenomenal. He was the main reason why we went into the half time with a lead. Simply superb.

2. Ian Perrie - Very good game by Sarge. He was our only tall forward to have some influence on the game. 16 touches, 13 marks and 3 goals is pretty good return from your CHF.

1. Brett Burton - Another great game by Burton. I don't like him when he thinks, when he plays instinctive footy he destroys sides. Well done birdman.

Honourable Mentions: Just about everyone else ;)

BTM

3. Ian Perrie - See above

2. Ben Rutten - Tight ass!!!!!! :D What I liked was that he actually provided a fair bit of rebound from the defensive 50. If this game is any indication, expect a more attacking Ben Rutten this year.

1. Matthew Bode - Really a toss up between Bode and Bassett for this one. Went with Bode in the end as his attack on the footy is text books stuff. Great courge and NEVER backs out of a contest. He went in where angles fear to tread. This blokes sets an example.

Rookie

2. Nathan Van Berlo - Had an immidiate impact when he came on and did some real good stuff. Liked his game.

1. Chris Knights - He started off ordinary. Found the pace of the game a bit challenging anf got caught holding the ball in the first quarter. Got more comfortable as the game went on and played his best footy in the 4th quarter. Once he gets comfortable with the pace of the game he will be winning possesions at will.

5. Roo: Six goals 20 touches 11 marks:D

4. Edwards: great game through the midfeild.

3. Mattner: thought he really did well tonight and showed more of what he learned in 2005.

2. Burton: Great game was in everything, great marks and great goals really showed what he can do when WDS doesnt kick in.

1. Perrie presented and presented and kept going great game from the 'pez' dispenser tonight.

I would love to give a point to Bode but he gets an hounorable mention well done Bodey.

Bear in mind that I was moderately to extremely drunk at tonight's game. I dunno, it's hard to tell, but I had spent all day at the bar before hitting the ground.

POTY
5 - Roo - and everyone around me heard about it too
4 - Mattner - loved his run out of defence especially when he bends his back just that little bit to avoid a tackler...everyone around me heard about that too
3 - Goodwin - got heaps of the ball. I didn't realise he was burning it as you guys say but he seemed everywhere. Everyone around me heard about that
2 - Edwards - pure class...yeah, I mentioned that a few times
1 - Johncock - an excitement machine, whom I made sure was well known in my section

BTM
3 - Rutten - Just in case people on Level 3, Aisle 7 didn't know he was AA full back last year, they do now...I told them...several times
2 - Perrie - never stops working
1 - Bode - just nudges Bassett because I'm just so glad to see him back in the team. Looks super keen to make his mark this year.

Rookie
2 - Knights - probably the player I spoke most about all night...too bad Dale Thomas showed him up as the hot rookie early on
1 - VB - solid, but not spectacular. Definitely deservant of a vote though

Honourable mention to Nick Maxwell. My friend who goes for Collingwood said he was easily our best player. :p

POTY

5 Rutten. They had a heap of the ball in perfect conditions on there home ground and he completly destroyed a recognised forward.
4 Basset. Not only did he nullify the ever talked about Tarrant he left him on numerous occasions to help his team mates and what I said about Rutten can be applied to Bassett.
3 Ricciuto. The next three are a toss up but I choose Ricciuto as he is our captain and led by example tonight.
2 Mattner. Just loves the tough games and I thought he kept us in the game at times when Collingwoods midfield was peaking.
1. Edwards. Polished, composed and workman like game.

BTM.

3. Bode Who could not be impressed by the way he threw his body around considering his size.If I was playing with him tonight I would be inspired.
2 Perrie.Commited work horse with a heart the size of Pharlap and never stopped working tonight.

ROTY
Van Berlow played his best game tonight for us,was courageous and worked all night and it appeared not as many clangers.

Player of The Year
5. Mark Ricciuto - Awesome effort by the skipper. Best leader in the comp.
4. Marty Mattner - Great run from defence. Breaks the lines.
3. Tyson Edwards - Used the ball beautifully and got plenty of it.
2. Brett Burton - I love not knowing what's coming next from him
1. Ian Perrie - Nobody works harder than this bloke.

Best Team Man
3. Ben Rutten - I was worried about their forward line before the game. No need to be with this bloke around
2. Ian Perrie - See above
1. Matty Bode - Threw his body into every contest.

Rookie
2. Chris Knights - got better as the game wore on.
1. Nathan Van Berlo - love his aggression and hard running.

POTY
5. Roo
4. Goodwin
3. Perrie
2. Edwards
1. Mattner

BTM
3. Perrie
2. rutten
1. Riley

Rookie
2. VB
1. Boogie

Fantastic win – enjoyed the way we changed the pace of the game to suit ourselves.

POTY

5 – Mark Ricciuto – 6 goals and “onball type” stats from the great man. By far the greatest player this club has produced and a frightening prospect in the years to come for opposition sides in our forward line.

4 – Ty Edwards – after a quiet start he took some responsibility with Goody to get our midfield moving

3 – Simon Goodwin – snapped himself out of a first qtr snooze to take the game by the scruff…..5 clangers probably kept him out of second spot.

2 – Ben Hart – fantastic rebounding game….the great man might just go around for another 300.

1 – Brett Burton – there’s no denying he is very important to our side and wing / pushing fwd seems to be his ideal spot

Special mention to Marty Mattner…I loved the way he started running before he hit the ground after that mark !!!...:D

Most frustrating – Thommo….keep doing the hard things fella….you’re a very good player but not quite in the Rolls Royce category yet.

BTM

3 - Ian Perrie – The Dispenser just kept working all night
2 – Ben Rutten – The Truck closed down a branch of Rocca Bros…………NEXT victim please ??!!!
1 – Nathan Basset – after an interrupted PS – he did all the hard things last night.

ROTY

Just the 1 vote from me

1 - Nathan Van Berlo – The Count was good across half back

Controversially I don’t have a vote for Knights…..I think he will be better for the run and reminder of the step up in pace from SANFL

Magnificent win. Excelled with both in the skill and fitness department which the Maggies couldn't keep up with.

POTY

5. Ricciuto Just an inspirational game by the lad. Sets examples for others to follow if they can:
4. Edwards Would have had him equal to the Roo if it wasnt for those little
Matt Connell kicks:
3. Burton Loved this game by the Birdman.
2. Biglands Got thumped in the ruck early by kept on keeping on and with
his three goals provided that necessary big man presence in the F50.
1. Mattner Toss up between M&M, Rutten or Freddy. Matty got it purely on more endevour as I saw it.

BTM

3. Perrie Worked his butt off and kept the 2005 form going. Well done Sarge.
2. Rutten Kept Rocca nearly kickless and ran off him to set the team up numerous times.
1. Bassett Just another dog day evening for Freddy houndog.

ROTY

2. Van BerloThis boy could be anything. Bulked up and apart from a couple of errors read the ball well and his foot passing was something to sing about.

Didnt think Boogie deserved a vote. Found it hard to keep up and apart from a couple of kicks in the last 1/4, struggled with the pace of the game.
Will be better for that run and hopefully will get more game time next week.

5 – Ricciuto – what a player the man is. Watching him kick a footy is a simple pleasure in itself.

4- Mattner – Second quarter he was bloody awesome. Hard at it, read the play well and most of all used the ball to perfection.

3 – Rutten – smashed Rocca. Rocca was the one I was most worried about, but with Ben there, I needn’t have.

2 – Bassett – very very good on Tarrant.

1 – Burton – was everywhere and very dangerous.

Mentions to Edwards and Goodwin who were good but not up to their usual high standards (Edwards kept missing tackles, Goodwin missed targets and dropped a sitter).

The Ugly – Bode and Thompson. Both guys work their butts off but Bode due to lack of skill and Thompson due to lack of discipline can be very frustrating players.

Team Man

3 Perrie – works his arse off

2 Hart – great battle with Thomas et al

1 Johncock – looked very fit to me

Rookie

2 Knights – struggled at first but had an EXCELLENT last quarter when the game was in the balance.

1 Van Berlo – worked his butt off but his disposal was somewhat questionable at times.

POTY:

5) Ricciuto - WOW. What a gun leader. You can always rely on Roo.
4) Edwards - By far the cleanest player under pressure. Cool, calm, collected
3) Mattner - Backed himself sparked revival, great game
2) Goodwin - Usual reliable self, lot of the ball many centre clearances
1) Perrie - Bloody awesome game from sarge. Up there with his best. Presneted all night long and when u thought he was done , he presented again.

BTM:

3) Perrie - See above
2) Rutten - The GLOVE. Owned Rocca fair and square.
1) Burton - Sokid game by Brett, ran hard and did some great things one on one. Another speccy too.

Rookie - VB - classy game from VB used footy really well and was calm under pressure. Looked 50more games mature than he is.

V unlucky - Basset, Biglands, Hart

Honourable mentions - Bode, Johncock

Ok... have had time to think and decided the following:

POTY:
5. Roo: Can't go passed a man who had no pre-season to speak of and bagged 6 goals (could have been more!) and 20 possessions. A great position for him and his suspect groin - thinking he might turn into as valuable a player as Jars in that position.
4. Mattner: Was very impressed by Mattner's grunt. Gave 110% all night.
3. Burton: While I prefer him in the forward line, you can't go past his amazing aerobic performance. He was the only player on the ground that looked like he could go another two quarters! Took his first (of many) mark of the year candidates.
2. Edwards: Got a lot of the ball, although not all possessions as clean or effective as we expect from him.
1. Perrie: Just love this mans effort. He tries his heart out week in and week out.

Honourable mentions to Biglands and Clarke: Both comprehensively beaten in the first half, they came out to have an impact on the game in the second. Biggies two goals and Matty's efforts around the ground were great to see. Have always liked to see the Ruckman rested in the forward line rather than on the bench. Also an honourable mention to Hentschel: Blanketed by two to three players every time the ball went near him, which of course left the corridor open for Roo.

BTM:
3. Mattner: see above
2. Perrie: see above
1. Rutten: Kept a suspect Rocca stone motherless silent. Provided some drive forward at times.

ROTY:
2. Knights: Took a while to get used to the pace of the game but did some good stuff when it mattered.
1. Van Berlo: Like the look of this kid. Nice to see him getting some game time.

Most Frustrating Player Award:
Thompson: Unbelievably bad night. Will want to make amends next week or will find himself back in the SANFL.

Just to elaborate on Goodwins game.
I thought he wasted it heaps. He's not himself at this point in time and shouldnt have been mentioned in todays dispatches by Rooch:rolleyes:
Rooch couldnt have been at the game and went soley on stats.

Goody was pretty instrumental in that 4th quarter where he got some real important clearences for us.

However, his 3 quarters before that were average. He got the ball well but crickey he butchered the crap out of it. He dropped a couple of absolute sitters and kicked on OOBOTF under minimal of pressure.

His 4th quarter deserves praise but his overall game was not that great.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR
5. Roo - What can I say.
4. Edwards - Won a lot of the ball under pressure early in the last quarter when the game was there to be one.
3. Mattner - Great game off half-back and particually liked his grab in the 2nd where he kept his feet gave it to roo and we kicked a goal.
2. Biglands - I thought he was great after a poor start. He pressence in the forward line was massive and he always made sure if he didn't mark it that he put in front.
1. Goodwin - Not one of his best but still a player getting over 30 touches has to be doing something right.

TEAM MAN
3. Mattner - always puts his body on the line and tackling is great.
2. Rutten - His work off the ball is phenominal and I don't think anyone had a touch on him.
1. Perrie - Worked his butt off all night and supports his teammates so well.

ROOKIE
2. Van Berlo - I was supprised he got a game but I thought he was fantasic and starting to become a real AFL footballer.
1. Knights - First three quarters were average but when the game was there to be won in the last quarter he did some good things.

Player of the year

5 . Marty Mattner
4 . Mark Ricciuto
3 . Brett Burton
2 . Brent Rielly
1 . Simon Goodwin

and for best team man

3 . Marty MMMmmmmmmAtner
2 . Benny Hart
1 . Kenny Mac

Rookie
1 . Chris Knights

POTY

5.Mark Ricciuto- What can I say, our courageous captain didn't even play a pre-season game and turns in a true champions performance. Lets hope there is a little Ricciuto boy when the time comes so we can get a father/son that the other clubs would envy. :D

4.Martin Mattner- I loved the way he went about his footy last night and like the improvement I see thus far.

3.Simon Goodwin - His centre clearances are exceptional and he knows where to go and get the ball. When the going got tough, Goodwin got going.

2.Tyson Edwards- He is a quiet achiever, just puts in a consistent performance week in, week out. As supporters we can't ask for much more.

1.Brett Burton - The athleticsm of this bloke is astounding, the possesions he racked up were not wasted. I was proud of his endeavour last night.

BTM

3. Ben Rutten - Always did the team thing down back to prevent forwards creating scoring opportunities. A good workmanlike performance.

2.Graham Johncock- Tried valiantly and did some good things which in turn created opportunities for his teammates

1.Ian Perrie- He always gives a contest although he didn't kick a bag, he tried to create opportunities for the other forwards.

Rookies

2.Nathan Van Berlo- Rebounded beautifully and ran hard. I am starting to like the look of this kid. Improving every game.

1.Chris Knights- Started off slowly but found his feet in the last quarter. I think the final quarter showed us signs of what he can do.

Best On Ground

5. Ricciuto - Imagine if he'd played during pre-season. It could've been even uglier.
4. Bode - A real livewire tonight. Welcome back.
3. Burton - Roving goals up forward, taking high marks in the middle, sweeping back in defence. All the usual stuff from Adelaide's most underrated player.
2. Thompson - not the most polished performance, but our hardest worker in the midfield.
1. Edwards - solid game in the middle

Did you happen to miss the game???

Bode had 16 possessions 1 mark and 1 goal and got dragged a couple of times for poor play.

Martin Mattner - 24 possessions 11 marks
Goodwin - 33 possessions 4 marks
Edwards - 31 possessions 8 marks

Yet you put Bode ahead of them???

How on earth you thought Bode deserved to even be in the top 5 has me stumped!

Or most likely got rotated as all players do these days especially midfielders.

People need to get something straight, being rotated doesn't mean he got benched for poor play as you and many others like to put it.

correctamundo their stiffmeister.....someone on the telecast the other night came up with the stat that Roo was benched 60+ times during 2005 !!!!!!.
Not a reflection of his form I wouldn't have thought !

I saw that too. It was actually one of those meaningless stat boxes they put up in the bottom left corner. I looked at it and thought.. gee whiz if Wallsy wants to make comments about stats being meaningless in this day and age THAT is certainly one of them.

Perfectly true.

Having been seated 6 rows behind the Crows bench the other night, it was fascinating watching Bodey go about his play. I would hazard a guess that he spent more of his on-field time sprinting, rather than walking or jogging, than any of his team-mates.

Watching the replay, I heard when Walls I think made the comment about him being dragged after the shot he took from the boundary line, and I can tell you he was about to come off anyway - he actually turned around from heading to the bench to get involved 1 last time when he saw how the passage of play had evolved.
