it's also measured per square inch....

the beer would spill over an area of about one square foot which is 144 square inches...

and in any case it would've drained through by the start of play.

go pour a pint out over the grass in the backyard. come back an hour later. it'll be dry or close to. and that is a backyard without hte draining of the gabba...

to be honest i'd be more concerned about glass breaking. but it is a total tea in a storm cup.

there we go. mark nicholas gives his approval of what happened so it's all sweet. right gents?? ;)

Some amazing over reaction in this thread

Heard Cam Sutherland on ABC - the guys sitting down were actually working on the pitch. They were still doing so an hour after that video stopped The girls walking on the pitch (in bare feet mind you) were office based staff who were given a bit of a reward for their hard work - they were there for 10 minutes - hardly the "party" that's been reported.

Add to that, the pitch gets clipped and the heavy roller the morning of the test.....

Lots of people bitching and going mental over something they have NFI about ITT.
Some of the more stupid posting you will see:o

Indian cricket officials wanting it looked into should try and sort out the pitches that they prepare over in India

it just seems to be the way india deal with losing, either shift the goalposts(whatever form of the game they aren't losing in becomes the most vital) or find some trivial issue where you can blame the foreigners for the outcome.

Still when all is said and done the lack of introspection and the hysterical need to blame somebody outside of india means they have no chance of ever rectifying the issues they have away from home.

The WACA have said its a tradition that the Staff go out and toast the wickets... no probs BUT STAY OF it and FFS dont stand on it with beer in hand,

What if a beer was dropped and entire contents spilt on a good length? That could **** up the perfect test wicket.

Lol.

Pitches in Perth get drowned in water pre game as part of the preparation otherwise the grass would be dead and it'd crack like buggerry. half a beer would dry out in 20 min in the 35 degree Perth sun.

Bad as the Indian media

500ml is two thirds of perth's rainfall each year.

I reckon that sort of rain falling on a pitch might have an effect, don't you?

Even if we expect the spread of that beer to only put 25ml over any square cm - that's still an inch of rain

Yes because the only water that gets on the pitch is from rain.

Post is hilarious

For all the 'OMG its a greentop hysteria' the pitch is still pretty flat, nothing like the bounce we used to get there. That drop off of Warner where Kohli had to dive to a dropping ball on his right would have been taken head high on the way up 10 years ago.

Compare this wicket to the wicket where Ambrose got 7/1 at the WACA. The two matches will last a similar number of sessions.
Ambrose is twice the bowler of any bowler out there today.

It goes to show how bad modern day batsmen are at handling bounce.

You can blame that pitch (and era of pitches) on football.

With football being played at the WACA they spent millions of dollars improving the drainage on the ground. So much so that you could have a massive downpour a few hours before the game and the match would still pretty much be dry conditions.

The problem of course was the due to this terrific new drainage, the centre wicket couldn't keep any moisture and what you saw was some horrific cracking.

Nice theory but that pitch is from the 2010/11 season. 2nd XI match. :)

Imagine his quickly a spilt beer would drain away

now that the test didnt go half way, I think i would have preferred a little less grass - just so that the test would go to 4. But then, thats completly in hindsight knowing that India would fold for 160 twice.

The length of the test says more about the quality of batting by India (and Australia minus Warner and Cowan) than the strip.
